Dance Foundation classes help to reach our curriculum goals for our students by… tapping into all areas (social, emotional, physical, language, cognitive, mathematics, and arts). It (dance) involves it all.

My daughter had a challenging year because of a recent ADHD diagnosis, which was causing her to struggle with directions and appropriate behavior in class. Despite this, her teacher was patient, loving, and learned how to deal with her in a positive and productive manner, which made her feel successful and limited meltdowns. – Parent, Studio Program

Studio Use Program

Our Studio Program offered a variety of dance and acting classes for ages one through adult. Our teaching approach and curriculum engages the imagination and nurtures creativity. Live music is an essential component to classes for young children. Satellite studio classes were offered at a handful of locations for students enrolled at schools such as Levite Jewish Community Center and Our Lady of Sorrows. We completed our third season of our Dance Artist and Dance Exploration Programs, which enjoyed growth in enrollment and enthusiasm.

We launched our new Parent Partners volunteer group this year, which cultivates parents who wish to donate time and talents for projects and events throughout the year. Volunteers helped with cutting scarves for classes, assisting with activities at Tutus, Blues and Brews, supporting our faculty with a “Fat Tuesday” lunch, and food and snacks for recital weekend, and more. We’re so thankful for every volunteer! artistry

Our well-designed, affordable and accessible studios are home to dozens of local artists and arts organizations for their classes, workshops, auditions, rehearsals and performances. These artists and their activities augment our programs, making our studios an inclusive, eclectic and lively place to learn and create. The Alabama Dance Festival, Sanspointe Dance Company, Arova Contemporary Ballet, Homewood Theatre, Red Mountain Theatre Company, Natyananda Indian Dance, Birmingham Irish Dance, Birmingham Suzuki Violin Association, and Mosaica Flamenco Dance all use our studios throughout the year.community

Community partnership programDance is a skill-building, fun approach to learning – whether the child is a preschooler preparing for kindergarten, a child with special needs and working on developmental milestones, an elementary school student improving their language skills, or an adolescent living in poverty, cultivating creativity, leadership and collaboration skills. Students of all ages, abilities, and circumstances need positive, inspiring and meaningful experiences in which to learn and grow.

Our Community Partnership Program reached almost 1,200 students during the school year and almost 600 additional students during the summer. All program sites are subsidized, with those in the most need served free of charge. creativity
