Generic Bupropion is one of the most widely prescribed antidepressants, and the available evidence proves that it is very effective in the treatment of clinical depression.Generic Bupropion (Bupron Tablets) is used to treat depression. Bupropion (Bupron Tablets) is also used to treat and prevent seasonal affective disorder (SAD; episodes of depression that occur in the fall and winter each year). Bupropion (Smoquit -SR) is also used to help people stop smoking.Bupropion HCl belongs to a class of medications called antidepressants. It works by increasing certain types of activity in the brain. In comparison to several other antidepressants, it does not cause as much weight gain or sexual dysfunction.

Generic Bupropion (Bupron Tablets) have to be stored at controlled room temperature i.e. from 15C to 25C (59F to 77F). Keep this as well as all other medicines away from children and pets.

Use in Treating Psychiatric Disorders: It has been proved that antidepressants increased the risk compared to placebo of suicidal thinking and behavior (suicidality) in children, adolescents, and young adults during short-term studies of major depressive disorder (MDD) and other psychiatric disorders.Seizures: Bupropion HCl is associated with seizures in approximately 0.4% (4/1,000) of patients treated at doses up to 450 mg/day.The risk of seizure may be minimized if the total daily dose of Bupron does not exceed 450 mg, the daily dose is administered 3 times daily, with each single dose not to exceed 150 mg.

Extreme caution should be used when Generic Bupropion is administered to patients with a history of seizure, cranial trauma, or other predisposition(s) toward seizure, or prescribed with other agents (e.g., antipsychotics, other antidepressants, theophylline, systemic steroids, etc.) that lower seizure threshold.

Hepatic Impairment: Generic Bupropion should be used with extreme caution in patients with severe hepatic cirrhosis. In these patients a reduced dose and/or frequency is required. Potential for Hepatotoxicity: In rats receiving large doses of eneric Bupropion chronically, there was an increase in incidence of hepatic hyperplastic nodules and hepatocellular hypertrophy.

Generic Bupropion Dosage

The usual adult dose of Bupron tablets (Bupropion Hcl) is 300 mg/day, given 3 times daily. Dosing should begin at 200 mg/day, given as 100 mg twice daily. Based on clinical response, this dose may be increased to 300 mg/day, given as 100 mg 3 times daily, no sooner than 3 days after beginning therapy.

Contraindications

Bupron Tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Bupropion Hydrochloride or any other component of this medication. Bupron tablets (Generic Bupropion) should not be given to patients who have a Seizure disorder, Current or prior diagnosis of bulimia or anorexia nervosa or in cases of abrupt discontinuation of alcohol, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, antiepileptic drugs. Bupropion HCl (Generic Wellbutrin) is also contraindicated in a patient who is being treated with linezolid or intravenous methylene blu.

Generic Bupropion Side Effects

The common possible side effects reported in patients treated with Generic Bupropion (Bupron Tablets) include agitation, dry mouth, insomnia, headache/migraine, nausea/vomiting, constipation, and tremor

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms call your doctor immediately or get emergency medical treatment:seizures, confusion, hallucinating (seeing things or hearing voices that do not exist), irrational fears, muscle or joint pain, rapid, pounding, or irregular heartbeat.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop taking bupropion and call your doctor immediately or get emergency medical treatment: fever, rash or blisters, itching, hives, swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs, hoarseness,difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest pain.

Bupropion Tablets Overdose

A large number of cases of overdoses of Bupropion tablets up to 17,500 mg have been reported. Seizure was reported in approximately one third of all cases. Other serious reactions reported with overdoses of Bupropion HCl tablets alone included hallucinations, loss of consciousness, and sinus tachycardia. Fever, muscle rigidity, rhabdomyolysis, hypotension, stupor, coma, and respiratory failure have been reported when Bupropion tablets was part of multiple drug overdoses. Although most patients recovered, deaths associated with overdoses of Bupropion tablets alone have been reported rarely in patients ingesting massive doses of Bupropion Tablets.

Bupropion Tablets Overdose

In case of an overdose of Bupropion tablets, provide supportive care, including close medical supervision and monitoring. Consider the possibility of multiple drug overdose. Healthcare providers have to ensure an adequate airway, oxygenation as well as ventilation. Patients have to be monitored for cardiac rhythm and vital signs. Induction of emesis is not recommended.

Bupropion During Pregnancy

Bupropion Hydrochloride (Bupron tablets) has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C. Observations of epidemiological studies of pregnant women exposed to Bupropion in the first trimester indicate no increased risk of congenital malformations overall.However Bupropion Hydrochloride tablets should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
