Introduc)on to OREX/PolyZolv Processing
OREX processing history
• 2000-‐ first R&D OREX processor constructed in Texas (Genera<on 1)
• 2003-‐ OREX processor begins commercial opera<on in Alabama (240 kg/batch)
• 2006-‐ Second processor added in Alabama • 2007-‐ OREX processor begins opera<on in Tennessee for Special Nuclear Material (90 kg/batch)
Genera)on 2
• 2010-‐ Small scale pilot processor developed and operated at Wolsung NPP in South Korea
• 2011-‐ Team assembled to develop commercial size Genera<on 2 processor in USA
• 2013-‐ Construc<on and successful tes<ng completed • Two new Genera<on 2 processors have been installed in ETI main facility in Alabama.
• ETI has Contracts to fabricate three Genera<on 2 Processors to be installed in China Nuclear Sta<ons
• UK and Brazil are planning Gen 2 Processor installs
Performance
• 180 Kg per batch • Two step process: Chemical oxida<on followed by Thermal Oxida<on
• Each step is 6 hours • A batch can be started every 6 hours

Controls
• Touchscreen interface • PLC controlled • System is designed to run automa<cally aaer “Start” is pushed
• Alarms, automa<c shut down, other safety features
Emissions
• Air leaving Quench Tank – 10% CO2 – 10% O2 – <50 ppm CO (realis<cally, it is 0)
• Water leaving Quench Tank – Virtually dis<lled water – Radioac<vity levels < detectable
Benefits to Facilities
Eliminate Waste Volume and Cost Replace sheeting and plastic bags Replace wipes and mops
Virtually Eliminate Laundry Burden and Associated Operating and Capital Costs
• OREX/PolyZolv is Much Easier to handle and Manage than Conventional Materials
Improved Worker Comfort and Hygiene No Protective Clothing Related Impacts to the Shutdown
Schedule Improved Resource Management Cost Savings
