Introduction

The 2016–17 academic year opened with a total student enrollment of 1,916, including 1,602 full-

time undergraduate students. Significant initiatives at the College from the past year include the

following achievements:

Construction began on the college’s first academic building on the north side of campus, the

Jeanne and Edward H. Arnold Health Professions Pavilion which will house academic programs

in physical therapy, athletic training, exercise science, and speech language pathology.

New academic programs were added this year, as faculty approved new majors in:

Environmental Science, and Interaction and Experience Design (I.Ex.D).

The MBA program receive accreditation by ACBSP.

Following the path laid forward in the campus master plan, One Campus, the college has

begun extensive re-modeling of the Carnegie building, is near completion with the Route 934

beautification efforts, and is in plans to begin work on the pedestrian bridge linking north and

south campus in summer 2018.

Patrick Maxwell became the College’s first Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs

Fellow, and just one of 20 selected by the U.S. Department of State. Maxwell will receive

$75,000 over two years to help defray costs to attend Columbia University’s School of

International and Public Affairs, where he will work toward a master of international affairs

degree with a concentration in economic and political development, and a regional

specialization in African studies.

Jasmine Olvany and Megan Lough each were named Fulbright Finalists and are spending the

upcoming year in Budapest completing research and in Bulgaria teaching English and

introducing students to literature, respectively. LVC also had a faculty Fulbright this past

spring with Kathleen Tacelosky receiving a Fulbright Research Award, which will enable to

continue her research in Mexico.

Twenty of twenty-fie athletic teams competed in postseason play. Sammy Bost, a women’s

soccer and softball athlete, was the MAC Commonwealth’s nominee for NCAA Woman of the

Year, while Zac Edwards became baseball’s first-ever Academic All-American. The men’s

soccer team captured its first-ever ECAC Championship and in men’s ice hockey, Cole Hepler

was named the ECAC Rookie of the Year.
