Innovative programmes in media arts, exhibitions, community development collaborations, professional development and international artist residencies all encourage the prosperity of artists and the creativity of communities local to SPACE buildings. About London Creative Network: London Creative Network (LCN) assists London-based small creative companies and sole traders in the digital image, design, designer making and visual arts sectors to advance their capacities for products, services and development. The programme is delivered by SPACE, with Cockpit Arts, Four Corners and Photofusion, It will run from Spring 2016 to Autumn 2018. The LCN programme uses a tailored mix of mentoring, workshops and peer-to-peer support. SPACE will be supporting visual artists to realise a project within a 6 month-period using innovative technologies or processes. The emphasis of the programme is on developing new products and services to improve the artists’ economic position and become more successful in facing the challenges of living and working in London.

The post will work with the LCN SPACE team to help participating artists access the skills and resources necessary to increase their offer, adopt new-to-the-practice and innovative technologies and develop their profile. The team is currently composed of 2 mentors, a coordinator and an administrator.This is a fixed-term post to join the team leading London Creative Network, supported by the European Regional Development Fund.

Specific Responsibilities: To coordinate, manage and develop the SPACE LCN programme and related

resources. To be the key point of liaison at SPACE for artists, consultants and free-lancers

engaging with the programme. To schedule, manage and promote programme events, including any necessary

support systems (e.g. BSL interpreters). To book trainers/ advisors and to conduct professional development sessions with

artists where appropriate. To manage all financial, logistical, administrative and marketing needs relating to

this programme, including accurate and detailed monthly and quarterly reporting to ERDF.

To follow programme guidelines on purchasing, publicity and any other ERDF requirements.

To work to build and maintain excellent relationships with relevant individuals and groups.

To work in close consultation with SPACE artists and staff. To deliver activities on time, within agreed budgets and to an excellent standard. To ensure detailed information is provided for marketing and planning purposes. To be responsible for all evaluation, monitoring and reporting relating to the

programme. To represent LCN at public and sector-specific events. To promote the aims and objectives of SPACE in a pro-active and informed

manner. To ensure that the programme is widely accessible. To undertake any other duties commensurate with post as directed.

Finance To undertake duties with an awareness of the need to promote cost-effective and

efficient budget management, taking into account both your post requirements and company finances as a whole.

To prepare and manage project related budgets. To liaise with the finance team with regard to invoices and cheque request forms/

maintaining financial records/ written records and files.

To engage with staff and clients of SPACE in a positive and constructive manner.

To attend staff and other SPACE meetings. Some meetings and training may be held outside of normal office hours, including occasional evening and weekend activities, repaid through TOIL.

Person specification

We expect to receive a large number of applicants for the post of Artist Development Manager, so please read the lists below and be certain you fulfil the necessary criteria.

Essential Desirable

A highly motivated self-starter who can initiate, manage and prioritise a varied workload.

Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people to achieve results.

An in depth, first-hand understanding of visual artists professional development and support needs.

Experience of running a public programme with an artist development strategy

Access to a good network of active contacts in the commercial and non-profit art world in London, and ideally internationally.

Established relationships in the arts.

Experience of managing a budget and working with administrative requirements and processes.

Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people to achieve results.

Proven track record of delivering detailed monitoring on funded programmes.

Experience of delivering effective teamwork.

Experience of successful recruitment for arts projects, including online marketing such as Twitter and Facebook.

A strategic thinker who can articulate and deliver strategy effectively.

Excellent verbal and writing skills to write copy in a range of styles.

Experience of working with international partners.

A good team player who communicates effectively with others.

Experience of managing staff and volunteers.

Management skills to organise the work of the LCN team, occasional volunteers and freelancers.

Proven track record in developing and maintaining partnerships with relevant organisations to deliver programmes.
