GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES
August 28, 2015
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair, Mr. Noah called meeting to order at 8:34 a.m., immediately followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and member introductions.
II. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
A motion to approve the minutes of the May 22, 2015 meeting made by Mr. Spiro, seconded by Mr. Kirkwood, and unanimously carried.
III. DIRECTOR’S REPORT Mr. Salyer reported on the following:
Rachel Busch, the newly hired Strategic Projects Manager was introduced to the General Membership.
The executive summary of the FGCU/Horizon Council Lee County Third Quarter Business Climate Survey was presented to the organization.
Mr. Baucom from the Economic Development Office gave an overview of the Healthy Business Awards and provided the names of this year’s winners as follows:
o Small Business Award: Edison National Bank o Mid-Size Business Award: City of Fort Myers Housing Authority o Large Business Award: Lee County Electric Cooperative
An earned media journalist visit will take place in October. The EDO will host Industry Week Magazine’s Michelle Nash-Hoff whose primary focus is on advanced manufacturing.
Current recruitment missions are being focused on the mid-West in areas such as: Minnesota, Cleveland, and Columbus.
A new advanced manufacturing project is currently in the works; however, no formal announcement can be made at this time.
Mr. Farnsworth of the Economic Development Office introduced the newest company to relocate to Fort Myers: American Thermal Solutions, Inc. The Fort Myers location will serve as the company’s corporate headquarters. The company plans to hire 15 new employees within their first year of operations.
A reminder was given that the Industry Appreciation Luncheon will take place September 18th at Harborside Event Center. Members were encouraged to attend the event and were also given sponsorship information. .
IV. OLD BUSINESS
Horizon Foundation Report- Dennie Hamilton The Foundation has met the fundraising goal of $400,000, with the current total holding at $401,500. This amount is approximately $6,000 short of the record fundraising total obtained last year. Mr. Hamilton thanked B. Pat O’Rourke for his hard work and asked for investor support to help achieve a new all time fundraising record.
V. NEW BUSINESS
U.S. Economic Outlook – Mark Vitner Mr. Vitner presented his Economic Outlook to the General Membership. The highlights of his presentation include the following: o Overall Outlook - U.S. growth remains solid but unspectacular; o Monetary Policy- The Federal Reserve is poised to raise interest rates; o Inflation-Slowing growth in China will weigh down other emerging economies; o Fiscal Policy- Major decisions need to be made on the Highway Bill, Corporate Tax Rates and the Federal Budget; o Unemployment Rate is steadily improving; o Single Family Housing sales are strengthening.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:52 a.m.
Mike Smith is the Chief Information Officer for Lee Memorial Health System and a member of the Health Information Systems Executive Association. Mike has more than 25 years of experience in health care delivery leadership, health information technology and electronic health records. He joined Lee Memorial Health System in 1997, following 10 years in various information technology leadership positions at Baylor Healthcare System in Dallas. Prior to that he served as the vice president of Operations for National Data Communications, a health care information systems company also located in Dallas, where he was responsible for software and hardware development and hospital implementations.
