OPENING

• Call to Order

Meeting was called to order at 3:54 p.m. by President Shana

• Four way Test

• Welcome and Apologies

President Shana welcomed everyone to the meeting and apologized for not wearing her Jamaican outfit as she had an official Rotary function to attend before our meeting. She also apologized for the late start

of the meeting as we were awaiting the arrival of visitors from the University of Technology Rotaract Club, who have not yet arrived.

Apologies were tendered for Prospectives Johanna Yates and Theresa Bent by Prospective Jean-Paul Martin.

Dir. Damian apologized for Rtr. Barnswell who would be absent. VP Chadwick made apologies for the absence Prospective Jeneil Cranston.

Rtr. Petagay tendered apologies of absence for Prospectives Trudy-Ann Barrett and Davia Peddie.

Treas. Rochelle apologized for Rtr. Cristal Osbourne who would be absent.

BIRTHDAYS

Immediate Past President Stephan and Rtr. Jodian Tucker both celebrated their birthdays earlier this month, and were asked to stand so that everyone present could sing them Happy Birthday –Jamaican style.

BUSINESS MATTERS

• Upcoming Events o National Heroes Day –Monday October 15th will be observed as National Heroes Day

and as such there will be no school. It is noted that since this weekend is dubbed “Heroes Weekend” where there will be a lot of partying, President Shana implored us to do this responsibly.

o World Food Day –October 16th, we were reminded of the Can Drive that we have started in celebration of this. President Shana noted that up to this point in time no one has come forward with any canned items. VP Chadwick will be accepting the donations at each meeting. Institution where canned items will be donated to be announced soon.

o Professional Service Meeting –Our next meeting October 18th. Topic: Public Speaking o Digicel 5k –will be on October 20th. Application deadline for participation has gone

(October 8th). However, President Shana announced that the Rotary Club of St. Andrew North will be participating in a run soon. The particulars of that will be announced soon via email, by tomorrow.

President Shana asked for someone to come and give her a synopsis of last meeting’s happenings, since she was absent. Prospective Ashalee Brown volunteered.

CLUB SERVICE

Dir. Lhacya thanked all who came out to meeting decked in their Jamaican inspired attire, and noted how proud we are as a nation, generally. Especially seen when our athletes perform well at the International level.

Jamaica Day Presentations

• Power Point Presentation: Jamaican History (Symbols, Parishes & Historic sites)

• Three Video Presentations: “You Know You Are Jamaican If…” • Jamaican Games Charades: “Dandy Shandy”, “Marbles”, “Hop- Scotch”, “Farmer in the Den”,

and “Twee-Twee”

• Any Other Business

Maxfield Park Children’s Home Tutoring Program back on this Saturday. All interested persons were to put their names on the list. Persons were also reminded to participate in other community service projects, such as at OSS and UHWI.

Toy Drive Reminder

After club Lyme at Scotches cancelled, because of mid semester exams.
