Course contentThe master’s degree course is designed to take two years until graduation. Our curriculum combines the following subjects to give you a unique and ideal preparation for your future career:
9 Health economics 9 Business administration in health care 9 Medical documentation 9 Information management 9 Business intelligence 9 Networks 9 Mobile communication 9 Quality management 9 Project management
You will also spend one semester working on a project and dedicate the fourth and final semester of your studies to your master’s thesis.
Course profile 9 Strong focus on application 9 Actively involved in numerous projects 9 Networking on a national and international level 9 Interdisciplinary approach 9 Working in teams
As our student you will benefit from our strong point: the close connection between our teaching and our application-oriented research (we have successfully participated in and even led a number of EU projects). We encourage our students to work on these projects with us, you could write your master’s thesis on one of our projects for example. To give these activities an adequate space to grow, we founded the Institute for eHealth and Management in Health Care in 2012.
eHealth – providing vital infrastructureThe World Health Organisation (WHO) describes eHealth as “the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for health”. eHealth is used in telemedicine, electronic health files, online health platforms, ambient assisted living and many more.
eHealth – get fit for a growing job market According to the European Commission “it’s time to give this 20th Century model [of Europe’s health care system] a health check.” eHealth is seen as an antidote to prevent the collapse of health care as we know it, because “eHealth brings healthcare closer to people and improves health systems’ efficiency.” The EU plans to make eHealth applications available all over Europe as part of their Digital Agenda. They also forecast the global eHealth market to grow rapidly in the near future and predict a development from “7.6 to 17.6 billion euros already by 2017”. In short: the health market will be one of the crucial pillars for growth in industrial nations for years to come.At Flensburg University of Applied Sciences (FUAS) we have foreseen this development early on and were the first German university to establish a degree programme in eHealth back in 2007. We have used our 20 years of experience in health-related education as well as our active involvement in numerous research projects and close contact with industry partners to remain a leading partner in actively changing the health care system. Our graduates are highly attractive candidates on a very dynamic, growing job market; and they will be the first to tell you that the combination of this exciting field, our cutting edge teaching and studying environment and our picturesque location make FUAS the perfect place to study.
Your future employersYour degree in eHealth will make you a highly sought-after candidate on a growing job market. Your future employers could be hospitals as well as health insurance providers, health networks, research institutes or companies in the field of information and communication systems. You could also decide for a job in consulting or public services.
Our network of partners 9 Siemens Health Care 9 Microsoft 9 CISCO 9 University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf 9 University Medical Centre Schleswig-Holstein
Partner universities: 9 Aalborg University, Denmark 9 Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, Finland 9 Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania 9 UiT, The Arctic University of Norway 9 Medical University Gdansk, Poland 9 Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Kaliningrad, Russia
What our students think“I am currently spending my project semester working on a project for a major health insurance provider. I can apply the knowledge I have acquired in the last semesters perfectly here. Most of my colleagues do not have any in-depth knowledge of the health care system. I have been told what an important part I play in this project because of my specific knowledge many times. It’s as if my studies were tailor-made for this job.”Henrik Matzen (eHealth student during a project semester at IBM)
