General Education Committee Meeting Minutes Date: March 11, 2015 Committee Members Present: Kirsten Underwood, Lynda Robinson, Yingqin Liu, Amanda Husak, Karla Oty, Matthew Van Sant, Ann Nalley, Sarah Janda, Mandi Smith, Yanjun Zhao, Marge Kingsley, Jenel Cavazos, Kerri Stephens, and Loree Gaines 1. Meeting was called to order at 4:00 PM in CETES 207. 2. Minutes from the February 11, 2015 meeting were read and approved with minor corrections. 3. Grant Money Spending. Reviewers were found for: a. Mathematics. The embedded final questions and their rubrics are being sent to a reviewer to assess problem solving. b. English. The reviewer will evaluate the English Department’s General Education Assessments concerning information literacy and ethics. Reviewers are still needed for eight more General Education assessments. The deadline to line up a consultant is April 15, 2015 and the reviewer must be finished with their evaluations by June 1, 2015. Contact Jenn Abel in the Institutional Research, Assessment, and Accountability (IRAA) office once a reviewer is located so she can fill out the proper paperwork. 4. Feedback on additional indirect measures for Capstones. The General Education Committee (GEC) unanimously endorsed the feedback on the additional indirect measures for Capstone. Survey Monkey will be used to conduct the assessment. 5. HLC item 4.B.4. The IRAA will add a question to the Achievement Summary / Analysis section of WEAVE. Dr. Mike Husak, chair of the Institutional Assessment Committee (IAC) will be asked to make sample formats on how the IAC wants the departments to respond to this new section in WEAVE. 6. CAAP. The GEC decided to set an achievement target for General Education Measures and Findings for items 4 and 17 since there is no Dean for General Education. The GEC set the achievement target as: 70% of the seniors will score at the national mean or higher. 7. NSSE Action Plans for Problem Solving, Communication, and Ethics. The GEC established sub-committees to analyze assessment data and incorporate faculty feedback to formulate General Education Action Plans that will be presented to the GEC at the April meeting concerning the General Education Assessments for Problem Solving, Communication, and Ethics. The subcommittees need to meet before the next GEC meeting. The subcommittees are:

1. Meeting was called to order at 4:00 PM in CETES 207.
