Dear Church Friends,

“You Say” is a christian song by Lauren Daigle. The song says, “I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low Remind me once again just who I am because I need to know You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing You say I am strong when I think I am week And you say I am held when I am falling short And when I don’t belong, oh You say I am Yours”

Our sermon series in February will be:

Feb 2 THE TRAGEDY OF OPEN- MINDED CHRISTIANITY Revelation 2:12-17

Feb. 9 WHEN LIFE GOES BAD Revelation 2:8-11

Feb. 16 WHEN JESUS COMES TO CHURCH Revelation 2:1-7

Feb. 23 WILL THE END REALLY COME Revelation 6:9-19

Let’s listen to the voice of Jesus in February and listen to the voices of Lent. Let’s be reminded “once again just who we are because we need to know.”

Who do you listen to? Pastor Dennis

Our sermon series for Lent will be:

March 1 VOICE OF TEMPTATION Matthew 4:1-11

March 8 VOICES FROM THE MOUNTAIN TOP Matthew 17:1-9

March 15 VOICES OF BETRAYAL Matthew 26:14-16, 47-50; 27:3-5

March 22 VOICE OF DENIAL Matthew 26:32-35, 57-58, 69-75

IMPORTANT NUTRITION FACTSAs with any part of raising children, no one does a perfect job with nutrition. As a parent, grandparent or adult caregiver, you can help to raise healthy eaters during these critical years by doing your best to:

• Serve regular, balanced meals and snacks with a variety of nutrient-rich foods.

• Provide calm, pleasant meal times where adults and children can talk together.

• Remove distractions such as television, phones and tablets so that your attention is on each other.

• Allow children to use their internal signals to decide how much and what to eat from the foods you set out for each meal.

• Explore a variety of flavors and foods from different cultures and cuisines.

• Share an appreciation for healthful food, lovingly prepared and shared with others.

• Make simple food safety, such as washing hands, part of every eating occasion.

• Teach basic skills for making positive food choices away from home.

• Find credible food and nutrition resources when you don’t know the answer.

IT IS HEART HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH!!!There are six lifestyle factors that impact your heart health:

• Drinking too much alcohol• Eating a diet high in processed foods• Being overweight or obese

(having a BMI of greater than 30)

• Chronic stress • Physical inactivity• Smoking or exposure to second-hand smoke

All of these contribute to chronic inflammation and coronary artery blockage and high blood pressure.

MAKE FAMILY MEAL TIME A PRIORITYSometimes a very simple act can have important, long-lasting benefits. According to parenting and health experts, that is exactly the case with family meal times. Eating and talking together helps to:

• Foster family unity • Prevent behavior problems at home and school • Enhance academic success • Improve nutrition • Promote healthy weight for kids

Watch your thoughts, they become words.Watch your thoughts, they become words.Watch your words, they become actions.Watch your words, they become actions.Watch your actions, they become habits.Watch your actions, they become habits.

Watch your habits, they become your character.Watch your habits, they become your character.Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

PRAYER and STEPHEN MINISTRY

Covenant Prayer – John Wesley“I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt. Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee, exalted for thee or brought low for thee. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed GOD, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. AMEN”

Sit here while I pray. ”Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an Eternal Glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, BUT what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18Jesus said “Change your hearts and lives. 20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you. And you will eat with me. 21I will let everyone who wins the victory sit with me on my throne. It was the same with me. I won the victory and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22Everyone who hears this should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.” Revelation 3:19-21Remember what the angels told the shepherds?

“BEHOLD, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11Sit here while I pray. In the study Hidden Christmas Tim Keller writes, “The angel literally

says, ‘Do not be fearing. Be perceiving. For I am telling you the Gospel (literally – good news).’ If you take time to comprehend (behold) what is in the Gospel message, it will remove the fear that has dominated and darkened your life. To the degree you truly behold – gaze at grasp, relish, internalize, rejoice – in the Gospel, to that degree the fears of your life will be undermined.” It’s an ongoing process this journey towards Christ. Everything we do and see and say is part of that process. Would you resolve to ask Jesus to watch over our youth? (Ask Jason for their names)Would you resolve to pray for our church leaders? Would you resolve to pray for GOD to use you each day to spread the Good News of Great JOY?As always the Stephen Ministry Team and Prayer Team are available to walk beside you in your journey during 2020!In Christ’s service, Cathy

“Sit here while I pray…”Prayer for GOD’s will. “They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to HIS DISCIPLES, ‘Sit here while I pray.’” Mark 14:32

Henderson Mission Teamby DAVE NANCEThe Mission Committee continues to be amazed at the opportunities God has provided and doors He is opening for service in our community. We desire to invite each of you into an adventure into missions, a new mission experience for you, or maybe even your first mission experience. We will be offering information throughout the year for missional service.

We also desire to learn more about how to be more missional as a Church moving outside our walls. To that point we want to encourage you to check your calendars for Saturday, March 28. On that day, the Conference is sponsoring the Respond Mission and Justice Summit. This will be the third year for this event. The last two were excellent!

The Mission and Justice Summit is an exciting opportunity for United Methodists from across Indiana to gather, learn, and share about mission and service opportunities. During the Summit, participants will discover new ways to become more missional and share what they are doing to engage in and impact their communities.

We need names of committed individuals, like you, that will be able to devote the day to this experience. We want to register as a group. The cost will be $15 each and includes refreshments, lunch and materials. We will be reserving our places in early February. If you have any questions, just contact anyone on the missions committee or email [email protected].

Blessings, Mission Committee

MISSION and MINISTRIES

United Methodist Women (UMW)Well, 2020 is on it’s way! Are you ready for the Super Bowl?!! Hope you got your cheeseball and crackers ready! We want to thank everyone for supporting the UMW by purchasing those yummy cheeseballs.

We did well on our cookie sale in December. Hope yours were as welcomed as mine. If your cookie tin is empty, please return it to the church kitchen for next year.

We are still collecting aluminum cans in the fellowship hall. In April we will be making Easter eggs. And in May we will be having our yearly rummage sale. These cold, dark evenings are good for cleaning out drawers, closets and cabinets. Items can be brought to the church week AFTER Easter.

Stay warm, healthy and happy!

Here and Now Class, Lenten SeriesThe Here and Now class meets Sunday mornings in the parlor from 9:45 to 11 a.m. Last year we completed some very interesting studies with great discussions. On Sunday, Feb. 9, we will begin “The Walk, Five Essential Practices of the Christian Life,” a new study from Adam Hamilton. This is a six-chapter Lenten study that should take us right up to Easter. We cover about one chapter every two weeks. This study does have a video that will be shown at the start of every class, promptly at 10 a.m. The student books are available for order on-line including a Kindle format for a reduced price. This is a class for busy people. You don’t have to be there every time to participate and benefit from the group discussion. Each class is a stand-alone study and discussion. The video allows visitors, as well as regular attendees, the opportunity to join in the discussion without reading the book. The book just provides depth. Please feel free to stop by for a visit to the Here and Now class anytime.

Adult Life GroupsStarting in February, life groups will begin new studies. There are nine groups to choose from with different studies. If you would like to get connected, check out the listing in the bulletin or contact the office at 317.831.3376 or [email protected].

FEBRUARY 2020

A Word From JasonHello friends, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support and prayers that I have received as I have transitioned into the role of Youth

Director here at Mooresville First United Methodist Church. I haven’t got to talk with everyone at the Church just yet, so I thought it would be best if I introduce myself.I grew up in a little town in Dallas, Texas where I attended Hickory Tree Baptist Church. It was a little church, but I have fond memories of it and the people that attended there. Now, that’s been a few winters past so I don’t have extensive memories of that time in my life, but I remember the relationships that people built with me as a little guy. Those relationships helped to form me and lead me into ministry as an adult. One of the greatest gifts that God has given us is the ability to be in a relationship with one another. Through relationships we influence people, help move them to be greater than what they were previously, share hope with them, and help lead them toward Jesus. My philosophy is built on the idea that relational ministry facilitates spiritual growth and transformation in all people, but especially in teens. As we embark on this journey toward becoming Disciples of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I ask for your continued prayer for myself and for our youth ministry.Blessings, Jason

Register for Preschool 2020-2021Preschool is taking enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year. The Intent-to-Register form can be found on page 9 or on the church website. Please return the form to the preschool office. Have questions? Please contact Lydia Rychtarczyk at 317.834.1787 or [email protected].

Preschool Open HousePreschool will host an open house on April 8 from 6 to 7 p.m. This is a good time to meet the teachers, check out the classrooms and see what we are all about.

Scholastic Book FairTomorrow’s Promise will have a Scholastic book fair Feb. 24-28. The book fair will be before and after classes and on Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This is a great time to get some books for Easter baskets.

Kindergarten Cut-Off DatesHolly Frye, assistant school superintendent, confirmed that children have to be age five by Aug. 1 to attend kindergarten. Mooresville schools have a waiver system in place if your child turns five by Sept. 1 they may attend kindergarten. The state has extended the kindergarten cut-off date to Oct. 1, but Mooresville schools have chosen to stay with the Aug. 1 cut-off date. This is a local decision. If you have a child that has an August birthday, please call the school they will be attending and see what their policy is for kindergarten enrollment.

AHHH, LOVE IS IN THE AIR!As Valentine’s day approaches, the Mooresville FUMC Youth would like to invite everyone to our annual Valentine’s Day dinner on Friday, Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will include spaghetti with meatballs, salad and garlic bread. There will be live music provided by our very own Chaylyn Thompson. We will also be providing childcare for the little ones, age 7 and under, so feel free to bring them along as well. All donations received for the dinner will be used to fund the youth’s spring retreat to Mammoth Cave and our summer mission trip to Henderson Settlement in Frakes, KY.
