Influential woman in the Film Industry….

Kathryn Bigelow

Kathryn Bigelow is one of the first and only female directors to win an Academy Award for the 2008 film ‘ The Hurt Locker’. In addition she is also the first woman to win the titles ‘Best Director’ at the Oscars, the Baftas and the DGA Awards hosted in 2010. She has released stories which combine staples of action and some philosophical bent, tough heroes with a vulnerable core , with out getting held back by anything especially gender.

Kathleen Kennedy Producer

Kathleen Kennedy has produced over 60 films, making her one of the most successful female producers of all time. She produced Notable and famous films like Jurassic Park Trilogy. She holds the title ‘ President of Lucas Films’ after she produced the VII Episode of Star Wars.

Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham was the first female win a ‘ Directors Guild Award’ after working on a series titled ‘Girls’ which she gained recognition for and received a number of Emmy award nominations as well as 2 Golden awards. In addition, she also directed and wrote the 2010 released film ‘ Tiny Furniture’.

Ava Duvernay is the first African- American female director to receive the ‘ Best Director’ award in 2012 at the Sudance Festival. She was also involved in the controversy that involved the screenplay for the film ‘Middle of Nowhere’ that didn’t receive an Oscar nomination.
