A VIEW TO THE FUTURE

Bren’s Banter

Dear Families and Friends Wow, this first term has certainly raced by, with lots of exciting events and activities having already taken place and with lots more planned throughout the year. Speaking of racing, our HPV Racing Team had an absolute ball last weekend down at Wonthaggi. Our teams ‘Speedy Spuds’ and ‘Greased Lightning’ took out 5th and 6th place respectively in their class. This was a meritorious effort and it was fantastic to see the sheer level of enjoyment and satisfaction that our kids get out of competing in HPV. Firstly, thank you to all our participating students who represented our school so well. Thank you also to our brilliant mums and dads who came down to cheer, support and ‘pit crew’ for our budding racers. Finally, thank you to Mr Fraser, Mr Hawes and Mrs A who attended and worked throughout the weekend to support our HPV contingent. Teamwork, perseverance and personal goal setting are just some of the excellent student learning opportunities associated with participating in HPV. Well done team!

Working Bee It was great to see a band of very keen and generous workers complete an ‘autumn clean’ of the school grounds last Saturday. In gorgeous warm and sunny weather, several jobs were completed including the replacement of rotten sleepers in the vegetable garden, cleaning of drainage pits, as well as pruning, weeding and sweeping. Thank you to all families (mums, dads, students – even past students!!!!) who came along to lend a hand. Your generosity is very much acknowledged and appreciated. ANZAC Day We would love to see students participate in the Gembrook ANZAC Day March on Tuesday 25th April. ANZAC Day is a public holiday, so students will need to be accompanied and supervised by their parents. Students will also be required to wear full school uniform and meet with me at the corner of Main St. and Redwood Rd. at 10:30am in readiness for the march to the cenotaph commencing at 11:00am. Our school captains will lay a wreath on behalf of Gembrook Primary School and the official ceremony at the cenotaph will conclude at approximately 11:30am. ANZAC Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It is the day on which we remember all Australians who served and died in all wars and in operational service. The spirit of ANZAC, with its qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. Planning Week This week teachers across all learning centres have participated in a planning day in order to prepare teaching and learning activities for Term 2. It is shaping up to be another busy term at Gembrook and already teachers have planned some excellent learning experiences for their students. Mrs. Everett’s final assembly!

It will be with much sadness that we say farewell to our beloved Mrs. Everett at the end of this term as she bids farewell to us at Gembrook and sets sail in retirement on the next exciting chapter in her life. Our last assembly for this term (Friday 31st March at 9:00am) will be a special farewell assem-bly in honour of Mrs. Everett. We would love to see lots of parents, friends, past students, and past staff attend this celebration and to thank Mrs. Everett for everything she has done for us here at Gembrook over such a long time. Have a great week everyone and all the best.

STARS OF THE WEEK

The Wishing Tree. By Isabelle C (30) The wishing tree, A tree that shines bright, A tree that has multi-coloured leaves a trunk as white as snow. Beautiful birds fly around the tree, Grant peoples wishes. If you call, a bird will fall, and land on your shoulder. Whisper your wish to the bird, and watch your wish float to you.

Hey everyone, Fast Footy Fever is quickly sweeping across the MLC & SLC. You know the game, you know the rules. Now make your teams, choose your team names, assign your captain & try to work out who will be suited best to which position to help you to win. MLC: I'll be throwing a lot of addition, subtraction & multiplication questions at you so make sure that you are learning & memorising all of these well. SLC: I'll be coming at you hard with rapid fire times tables so make sure that you memorise them all. Reminder for MLC & SLC students: If you want to help out with any Fast Footy role e.g. Goal Umpire, Time Keeper, Scoreboard Operator or Commentator, sign up on the "Fast Footy Helper" sign up sheet I have given to your teacher. Fill it out asap & hand it in at the front desk. Fast Footy Commentator Auditions: The auditions will be happening in the Library on Wednesday 29th March @ lunch time. You & a team mate need to come up with a 60 second script to prove that you have passion for this great game. There are also opportunities to sign up to be a goal umpire & to operate our live scoreboard.

A safety reminder that student bikes should not be ridden in the school grounds during

school hours 8.45-3.45 Thank you
