The wisest individuals are often the most misunderstood. As an adoles-

cent 360 moved around from different schools, back and forth from 4

mile in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina to Otranto Road in North Charleston,

trying to escape trouble, along with the grasp that his parents and teach-

ers had on him. In school he was more advanced than the other stu-

dents, so getting into trouble kept him busy, an equation that his teach-

ers couldnt understand. At home he was uncontrollable, far different

from his well mannered older brother, an equation that his parents didnt

understand. As 360 struggled to find himself, he found something more

that would reveal to him his true identity as well as enable him to express

the message he was trying to convey to others all alongHE FOUND RAP.Pretti Ladi: Why the name 360?360: My friends use to call me 360 because I always use say what goesaround comes around, thats jus how I live.

Pretti Ladi: How old were you when you started rapping?360: Since I was about 18/19 years old. I would always write as a teen-

ager and spit among my friends. Id listen to locals and world wide stars,

so I said I might as well put my feet in the water too.

Pretti Ladi: Did you think people would embrace you the way that they didwhen you started?360: In a way because I knew my style was different than most I was

listening to. I knew my people were going to be down with it.

Pretti Ladi: What experiences influenced the life you talk about in yourlyrics.360: I lived with my grandmother growing up. Her and my grandfather

were very street oriented. Every place they were, had a crowd around.

From the time I woke up until the time I went to sleep. I was always hang-

ing with my grandfather Coota. My mom is real cool, as far as school n

stuff, but her and my stepdad didnt really have control of me. When my

big brother Keith went away to the Air Force when I was 16, thats when I

really started kicking it on the north side with the boys of Otranto. Thats

when things got a little hectic.

Pretti Ladi: I noticed you mentioned your mother and stepfather, wasyour real father around?360: He was around but I think he got intimidated by my moms lifestyle

after they split up. He started distancing himself. That turned into me not

giving a damn and him not giving a damn. I look just like him. But hes areal good guy. He was lost too, just like me.

Pretti Ladi: What life changing experiences made you look at life differ-ently?360: My partners and I were talking about life one day when I was about

    18. I said something about Jesus and they started laughing and asked

who he was. They asked if I really knew who he was and if I had investi-

gated, or if I was just going by what my parents and grandparents had

told me. This really altered everything in my life. Everything just looked

different. It wasnt jail or murder that change my life, it was just that sim-

    ple question. Who is Jesus??

Pretti Ladi: So are you a Christian?360: Do I have knowledge, wisdom and understandingyes, Christian

meaning Christianized into one. I dont put myself into specific religious

groups because I feel all of them are a piece to the puzzle to the answers

that people are looking for. Before you call yourself something you have

    to read into it.

Pretti Ladi: Who would you be interested in doing a collab with?360: Drake and Wayne for the fact theyre hot and where everybody

wants to be right now, MC Eiht and Andre 3000. Pimp C and TupacRIP,

I would use one of their skits instead of a verse. Nicki Minaj and Trina.

Ludacris because hes real tight with his wordshe runs with every cate-

    gory.

Pretti Ladi: How do u feel about other South Carolina artist and the factthat everyone looks at us as being the states thats always a step be-hind?

360: I feel that no artist in SC is slowno artist is dumb. The problem

that a lot of artist dont understand the business part of the game. We

dont really understand and nobody wants to teach us. There are a lot

real things going on here. Were gonna have to work extra hard and co

together because were so small as opposed to the big cities. Theres s

much that has to be exposed about our culture. We have the resource

Everybodys gonna have to give a piece of the cake but nobody wants

    give anything up.

Pretti Ladi: If we were to listen to one of your personal playlist, whatwould we find?360: Im on everything, old school, blues, jazz, rap definitely, some old

rock and roll and just whatever else is out there. I like rapping thats w

I do, but my music is all mixed up.

Pretti Ladi: Its always good to give back especially to people in time ofneed. Let everyone know about the Sickle Cell Foundation youre workon.360: Sickle cell is rarely talked about because its a minority issue. I h

someone in the family who has it, so this made me look into it and wa

to help. I feel that its important to the African culture. I have the money

for the foundation and have begun taking steps to get the state to help

with funding. My website: www.heis360.comtells about it.

Pretti Ladi: Whats the difference between Mind Over Matter and youlast album?360: I feel like I progressed, but this one is trying to get a more industr

theme. Im going to have to say yes to their style to show them I can rowith their style. The same drive that Im coming with on mind over mat

is going to be the same on this one, but its giving you a different outlet

Pretti Ladi: Whats the most stressful part of your job?360: Getting heard, getting people to pay attention because so many

    people are rapping.

Pretti Ladi: Where do you see your music headed in the next coupleyears?360: I see myself from falling back from being the front guy. I like to

write, I see my self more so writing the music than being the entertaine

Its just that nobody from my camp wanted to grab the mic so I did.

Pretti Ladi: When youre not rapping, what are some other things you lto do?360: I love getting on the web, designing web pages, designing t-shirts

and playing Xbox 360 all day like Im crazy.

Pretti Ladi: Oh really, whats your favorite game? 360: Gears of War

Pretti Ladi: If you could go back in your past and do anything differentlywhat would it be?360: I would change the way I started making money and paying bills.

a younger boy, I wish I didnt indulge in the things I did, that blocked m

off from the things I was able to do. It took away from a lot of opportun

If I knew then what I know now, things would have came a different wa

Pretti Ladi: Whats the side of you that the public barely sees?360: They barely see that super cool, super funny daddy that I am whe

Im with my kids. Im pretty strict in front of others. I like my kids to ac

accordingly and act mature so out in the streets I act strict.

Pretti Ladi: How do you handle mistakes?360: I always try to correct it by speaking the truth and admitting to

them. Once you do that, you better yourself.

Pretti Ladi: Is there anything else you would like to add?360: Oh yea, to these rappers, I love them, but Im just getting started.

want to let them know we gotta step it up in the city because, 360s hnow.

Pretti Ladi: Let everybody know a little bit more about the movement andeverything that you all have going on.

Diamond: Well currently what we are trying to do is bring Charlestontogether. We realized there are a lot of successful artist and musicians

out here that hadnt been heard. So basically what we did was, we sat

down and brainstormed a strategically process to try to figure out a way

to bring Charleston together as a major movement.

Pretti Ladi: How do you all plan on accomplishing this?Diamond: Our motto is were trying to go after the Georgia Atlanta arealike how they all stay connected. and push forward.

Pretti Ladi: I know you all have a team of girls under you, about howmany girls are there?

Red: There are 6 girls: Dana, Poo, Mel.Diamond: Stephanie, Tameka, Teshanna.Pretti Ladi: Are you all involved with modeling also?Red: Yes, weve done videos and promotional modeling as well. Pretti Ladi: So how did the two of you come together?Red : Thats my homie, thats my ace! One day we were at home and justcalled each other up and said lets go ahead and just do this.

Diamond: It is what it is, and actually shes my cousins best friend.Pretti Ladi: Now Diamond, I know that youre from N. Charleston soyoure a little more familiar with the market and music scene here in

South Carolina, specifically in the Charleston area. You, Red, on the other

hand, youre from Boston. Do u think there is a difference between themusic markets in Boston and in Charleston?

Red: Its really not a big difference. Theres probably more opportunitiesup there. I think that in the south you have to grind out a little more, and

thats where me and Diamond come in as far as the local artist: to try to

be their back bone and push them out there to get heard, like pushing

their cds and booking shows for them.

Pretti Ladi: I know as far as promotions you all do other events as well, what other projects have you been involved with?

Diamond: Weve done two videos, Reds done one for Marion Westwoodand weve done one as a group for Marly Mar. Right now were planning a

    community event for Thanksgiving.

Pretti Ladi: Any projects coming up in the near future?Diamond: In a couple weeks well be on a Christian based show so werereally trying to give back to the community. Recently weve been

contacted by two individuals so were thinking about going into the

management role. With our girls being our backbone, we can do it all.

CEOs of Get It Girls Entertainment, Tracy also known as Diamond and Jakia also known as Red have put their own twist to the sayitwo heads are better than one. These two young ladies, joined forces and produced a powerful promotional team of six young womthat have taken Charleston and surrounding areas by storm. Their work ethic has proven to be one of the strongest and with theiupcoming endeavors, they plan on taking over, one city at a time.

Life is no fairy tale. In fact, the Grimm realities are often overlooked and sugar coated bythose who had the luxuries that everyone dreams of. But for rap trio the Grimm Brothers,

telling the truth about money, cars and jewelry is one task that just comes natural. In anhour-long interview, I sat down with 1/3 of the group the Grimm Brothers who taught methat there are two sides to life; there is fairy tale; there is non-fiction; and the side that the

Grimm Brothers know all to well is reality.

Pretti Ladi: Where did you all come up with the name the GrimmBrothers?

Grimm Brothers: In 96 when we were dealing with another studio.Originally our name was CT Rider (Chuck town Riders), but after deal-ing with a producer for 2-3 years, he decided Grimm Brothers fit thedescription of our lyrics. So since 99 until now weve been going by

    the name Grimm Brothers.

Pretti Ladi: You say the description of your name came from your lyr-ics, so do you all talk about death in your lyrics?

Grimm Brothers: Yes, we talk about death and life along with the prin-ciple of them both. Our name is based on two authors that go by thename

(The Brothers Grim) that wrote fairly tales that did not have the tradi-tional happy ending. They put the sad emotion into their stories andgave you the realistic view of how things would be if there was nohappy ending. Its gangster rap talking about whats really going on.Were not painting any fake pictures.

Pretti Ladi: Do you think talking about these hardships of reality in

your lyrics discourages people instead of uplifting them?

Grimm Brothers: Yes, but at the same time, in reality you have happyand sad. We do certain songs that are for good times, but when all youare going through is a rough time, theres not too much you can saythats good. All we could speak about was what we experiencedthroughout life.

Pretti Ladi: How would you describe your music?

Grimm Brothers: Our music is like a diary that we open to the public.

Pretti Ladi: Who all is a part of the group?

Grimm Brothers: Originally it was Grimm L and Grimm James but wehave another artist that is affiliated with us under The Grimm Brothers

named Ghetto Trav. Ournew artists for 2011 will be coming out with CDs and DVDs under the

name Geechie Mafia with beats produced by Grimm Brothers Produc-tion,Geeche Boy Production, and Beyond Entertainment .

Pretti Ladi: What part of the Charleston area are you all from?

Grimm James: Im originally from James Island, Grimm L is from Ash-leyville in West Ashley and Ghetto Trav is from the downtown area.

Pretti Ladi: So how did you all meet?

Grimm James: Grimm L is my kinfolk and Ghetto Trav is one of ourpeople.

Pretti Ladi: How long have you all been in the music game?

Grimm Brothers: We have been doing this music for about 14 years.

Pretti Ladi: Did you think people would embrace you the way that theydid when you started?

Grimm Brothers: Yes, because when we started we got a lot of feed-back not only from our own area but from other states such as Mem-phis TN, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, extending all the way up to NewYork. Also, Grimm L made contact with various industry artists such asPastor Troy, Jinks, and Bun B

Pretti Ladi: Is there anybody in the music industry who you all wouldbe interested in doing collaboration with?

Grimm Brothers: 8 ball and MJG, Ghetto Mafia or any main stream

    artists going hard right now

Pretti Ladi: How do u feel about other South Carolina artist and thfact that everyone looks at us as being the state thats always a stbehind?

Grimm Brothers: I feel that we have more hurdles. Were still dealwith racial issues. We are more so like a buried treasure that hasnbeen discovered yet.

Pretti Ladi: What type of music does the Grimm Brothers listen to

We listen to a variety of music but mostly our group called GeechiMafiaand the artist we are dealing with music wise.

Pretti Ladi: So aside from rap, what else do yall do musically?

Grimm Brothers: We produce, create beats, mix, master and edit music videos. We also do graphic designs, Websites and CD/DVduplication.

Pretti Ladi: And, aside from music, what are some other things yolike to do?

Grimm Brothers: We are owners and operators of an electrical sutracting company called Shocking Electrical Services.

Pretti Ladi: So what can we expect from the Grimm Brothers? Anprojects in the works?

Grimm Brothers: We have four albums about to drop. The first isGrimm Brothers presents Geechie Mafia and the title is Rumble aBottom. Some of the featuring artist on the up and coming albumMarly Mar, Hollywood from Hollywood and Troy, Brown from WesAshley, Foxx a Million from Lil Boosie camp and Moe.P from MajoBread RecordzSavannah GA. Major another one of the artist thatMoe.P is managing, Hes done songs with Plies, Webbie and LilBoosie.

Pretti Ladi: Is there an official date for the release of the albums ye

Grimm Brothers: Between now and the end of next year, all four abums should be out. We plan on bringing one out every season.

Rumble at the Bottom should be hitting the streets in Jan. Followby Pirate Music, Dope Boy Music, and Cars, Clothes, and Jewelrytapes and single album will be released throughout the year

Pretti Ladi: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Grimm Brothers: We support local artist that make it their job to spout and let us know what is going on in the Chuck from their pointview. Shout out to everybody in the chuck putting in work, everybothats putting a CD out and already have a CD out. Thanks to evethat was working with us on our project.

Pretti Ladi: Why the name N4RED? N4RED!!N4RED: I got the name because I lived up to what it standsfor, that being: on-point, ready at all times, focused, precise, consistent and all about business.

Pretti Ladi: How old were you when you started rapping?N4RED: 4 years. October 6, 2006, I recorded my first re-cord, Shouts out to my homie Bb Slim, he produced andrecorded my first three tracks that night.

Pretti Ladi: What influenced you to start rapping? Before I started rapping I was a street runner. One day I got

a CD from an artist that was bragging about being hot and

getting money. I checked it out and he was wack. I had liljingles and hooks that I made up in the hood, so I hookedup with BB Slim and got 3 beats from him. I recorded andthe rest is history.

Pretti Ladi: Did you think people would embrace you the way

that they did when you started?N4RED: Yea and no, I believed in myself, Coming from whereI come from, business is business you just have to know howto handle business. I said lets try it. If this dude doing it andeverybody embracing him then lets try it. Basically I knew ifsomeone else could do it I could do it to.

Pretti Ladi: Well they had to embrace you some type of way, youve won quite a few awards havent you?

N4RED: Year Yea, Ive won threeGeecheeOne Awards, 2008Heaviest Grinder of the year, 2008 Best New Male Artist ofthe Year and 2008 Best performance of the Year . ShoutOut To My Fan And Supporters

Pretti Ladi: What experiences influenced the life you talkabout in your lyrics.N4RED: Just about everything I talk about is life experiencesI never talk about anything thats not real. Things you canrelate to with an original style and deliver where that peoplefrom any age group and race can feel my music. My firstRecords I Recorded, it was more for the street I had a lot toget off my chest and once I did I found style but first I haddecide rather I was going to be making more street music orcross a lil make some commercial music. I just let it flow I

remember one time at SC State I was doing a talent showand we were dummin on stage. The crowd was goingcrazy and a couple girls asked what the dance was we weredoing. And I were like Its not a dance just something we doin The Chuck said it was the mix. On the way back to my theroom, I was writing The Record Do The Mix. Shouts out ToMy homie Sadale Smalls.

Pretti Ladi: So would you consider that the major single thatbroke you in?N4RED: I dont have a major single yet. I feel if the songhasnt gone nationwide it isnt born yet. I t has no life untilafter it goes, But it did give me a nice buzz it was sort of ananthem for the city being my Fourth Record I wrote it was

    motivation.

Pretti Ladi: Have you worked with any other major industryartist?N4RED: I havent worked with any industry artist I Would LikeTo, Ive done alot of shows with them though.

Pretti Ladi: If you could work with one major artist, who

would it beAnybody you look up to in the music industry?N4RED: Big Daddy Kane ,Will Smith, Jamie Fox, LL Cool J.,and T.I.P.

Pretti Ladi: So you mean to tell me, theres nobody you look

up to? What about who you look to for motivation?N4RED: My motivation comes from my brother JACK ...mybrother has been there from start. He invested a lot in me,hes been backing me, hes been my road manager and hesbeen there from day one to make sure everything is every-thing.My motivation comes from my brother, the fans and the rush

I get when I do what I do.

Pretti Ladi: How do u feel about other South Carolina artistand the fact that everyone looks at us as being the statesthats always a step behind?I feel like thats the truth to a certain extent, I do know wehave what it takes. We are slow in a couple things not only in

our music but we are behind in fashion also. South CarolinaHas what it takes In my opinion Charleston has skills. Dontget me wrong there are some good artists in other parts ofthe state; Im just saying the best of the best are concen-trated in Charleston. We have a totally different sound here.

Pretti Ladi: Are there any local people u listen to?I dont use that word LOCAL its up & coming or CHUCKTOWNCELEBRITIES. I listen to lots of indie music when Im not toobusy Artists from FL,ATL,NY,CALI CAROLINAS of course , Im

locked in. My main focus is my projects so most of time Ibanging my producers Dough Boy, BB SLIM, Smokin Jo , Great 40oz. Production.

Pretti Ladi: Whats the most stressful part of your job?N4RED: I really dont look at it as stressful, here and theyou run into people thats not professional, ones that wafree shows all the time can be stressful. Theres really nosuch thing as a free show, because you have to pay for gan outfit, hair cut and food. Somebody has to pay for thashit. I dont get that part.

Pretti Ladi: What can we expect from the album?N4RED: Something different, Im going in fire beats fromhottest producers I know and Im killin it. Originality and product that can stand by itself and represent the CARO-LINAS.

Pretti Ladi: Do you have a name for the next album. Wheit coming out?N4RED: Im in the process of working on my debut Albumnow , and as I continue to work on it the name changes dont a definitive title.

Pretti Ladi: When youre not rapping, what are some oththings you like to do?

N4RED: Well you know I sell cars trucks and suvs so woPLUG lol , Mainly fishing, going to the beach, chilling withfamily, cards, pool and swimming.

Pretti Ladi: Other than your music and the magazines, Iheard you were on TV recently also? Is that correct?N4RED: Yea, shoutout to Army Wives, this is my 4th sea-

son. I played a featured extra POW that was a hell of anexperience. I didnt get a speaking part but I got some gshots I love it learn a lot just watching how things are bethe scenes in the movie industry. I was also an extra in tmovie Lil Red Wagon and a couple commercial.

Pretti Ladi: Whats one side of you that the public barely

    sees?

N4RED: Both sides. They dont see the street side becauwhen they see N4RED I try to be a good role model to thpeople that follow me, especially to the kids because I dolot of teen events and I have a lot of nieces and nephewsbut a lot of people dont see the regular guy Allen BrownPeople say he think he th is, he think he that.

Pretti Ladi: Whats the biggest misconception about you?N4RED: They say, He think he cocky, and they might bright but they need to know more about me whatever enthey give off I give it back twice. Its business. If they comat me with business you need to be professional. That ststuff cancels out because my main focus is business. The

misjudge and they underestimate me and what Im capabof doing. If you ask people who have sat down with me a

had a conversation they would tell you whats good.

Pretti Ladi: Anything else you would like to add?N4RED: Shoutout to; my brother, Alonzo N Brown, my famy supporters; Tripp Adams of Tout Records, the djs, ra

Troy Gathers is the designer behind Sixteen Sevnty Clothing Compa- and with wisdom and insight well beyond his years, this formerindustrial technology engineering student from South CarolinaState University is suddenly taking the fashion world by storm.

How did an industrial technology student find his way to acareer of fashion design?

My fashion knowledge is solely independent studiesresearch those that have created a legacy in the indu

dreams; he also believes they're possible. And he seems to bliving proof. "In life we must use our imagination everyday

because logic just doesn't comprehend dreams." Troy formehis fashion line inside his own freshmen dormitory, and hawatched it transform into a successful collection of designs

Troy credits his love of America's historic past for much of hdrive and inspiration in designing fashions. Sixteen Seventy

America in 1670 and established colonies in what is now thsoutheastern U.S., he says, The settlers had a dream in min

an ultimate goal, and they reached it. When Troy had free timduring his college years he would travel to historic sites and

often use the settings in his advertising ideas and fashionconcepts.

In the beginning, I would only travel on weekends. Mschedule was pretty full in school so I actually sold thclothing to my schoolmates and teachers. I can't sto

thinking about times my teachers wore a SixteenSeventy polo and conducted lectures. The support

received from my college will last a lifetime. Theymotivated me so much"

He also mentions that since golf in America began in South

Carolina he found it fitting to cater several of his mensweadesigns towards golf attire. Many of my designs are universa

but the main idea was golf.

In 2006, Troy was able to see some of his hard work pay offSixteen Seventy was given the opportunity to wardrobe an

episode of a popular television show, BETs 106 andPark. "This was big for fashion ... I mean, no one thought o

South Carolina and fashion in the same paragraph.

With profound wisdom and insight, Troy shares some advicwith aspiring designers. The life of a fashion designer can se

glamorous and easy on television, but thats scripted. If youwant to be a designer you will have to write your own script a

live out all the scenes. There are no shortcuts to any place in lworth going.

And, coming from someone who has taken a college campuendeavor and made it into a fashion brand, he may just be on

    something.

My philosophy in life is simple. Life is like Christ-mas. God gives everyone a present under the tree. No

some people take their gifts and open them to findgreat talents and wisdom. Others never open their prsent because they're too busy looking at everyone elsSixteen Seventy is my gift and I plan on opening it fo

I have been working with Star2Be Production for 2 years and, wh working with them I have done many things. I have done fashshows with Star2Be Production as well as shows they have collabrated with other companies. I currently ran in Star2Be Production

Annual Fight For Hunger Telethon (November 6, 2010) at the T.Banquet Hall. Were we collected donations of food, clothes, shocoats, and other items that unfortunate families needed.

Last year I was the winner of the 50 State Fashion Show becauscollected the most donations from different communities. I dont loat this as a competition, but when its something for unfortunfamilies I do the best I can to make a difference in their lives. I haccomplished many things with Star2Be Production. I won 2nd plfor Star2Be Productions Showcase (Poetry). In 2009, I was Ms. Patricks and, Queen of the 3rd Annual Halloween Bash. I am sure that I can start this off in many ways, but I will start it like this "my name is Juan andI used to be a player. I started this off so thatmen would understand me and women wouldhate me at first, because finding love in this cityis anything but pleasant! Charleston is a placefor lovers broke or paid. Most of the real ro-mantic places are actually free to the public. Solet's start this story of love with boy meets girl.

I remember meeting her we were young andhappy, she didn't even know that I existed butto me she was my reason for showing up. Shehad all the right moves and her voice was justthe right pitch everything was in sync and hereyes would make you think. I found myself day-dreaming in class thinking about the timewhere she would be my lady, not just in mymind but in person as well!I said all of that to say this a man always beginshis life looking to love a woman. With thatpoint being said its what's done when this storypicks up. He is fragile with his heart approaches

and is turned down, not in the simple, nice way,but in a way that leaves the rest of the classlaughing and pointing into his face. This em-barrassment will hunt him from now on andthis is exactly what most of you women meettoday.A man afraid to be himself because he fears hewill be embarrassed. So now we play the gameand go fishing to the club, bait you with rimsand a nice car, bait you with our dreams of be-ing a star. As you fall for it everytime saying hehas style and "swag" not thinking about poorlittle love at all. See you either want what he hasor your to independent to share, and the menare so hurt that we all pretend to care. So yourcorner of women are looking for the jackpotwhile my corner of men are afraid to tell thetruth. What would happen if love found me,what would happen if I walked up and said,"excuse I don't mean to interrupt you and yourfriends, but can we talk I don't know if I willever see you again!".Love in my city is like war! We come to the bat-tlefield dressed in our battle attire, men wear-ing the best outfit they can find, and womendressed up or down trying to show you they'refine. We put so much energy into the fight that

we forget that love is what we are looking for.We forget to be ourselves so that someone canfind us to love us. Pretti Ladi: How did you come up with the name Brown?

Brown: Its the name everybody gave me, its my last name so every-body just started calling me that.

Pretti Ladi: At what age did you start rapping.

Brown: I did my first demo at 12 by a company called Get Paid Pro-ductions in Charleston.

Pretti Ladi: When you began rapping, did you think peoplewould embrace you the way that they did?

Brown: Yea, actually, people would encourage me to rap. It was justsomething I like to do. People told me what to rap about I would rap

about it. Everybody at school gave me their lunch money to record asong for them.

Pretti Ladi: So how old are you now?

    Brown: Im 33 now.

Pretti Ladi: So even though youre older, do you still pushyour music to make it into the industry?

Brown: Im going to always do music, its just now, I do it for the loveof it. I still record. Im putting out two records in the months comingup. Im feel like Im relevant to the music game. People claim to bepioneers but Ive actually done it.

Pretti Ladi: What messages do you try to convey through

your music?Brown: I just try to express myself as an individual. I do music thatpeople feel.

When people call me to do a track with them its going to be more ofreality. People call me the common sense of Charleston. I try to putout good music, but I try to make it as real as possible.

Pretti Ladi: What experiences influenced the life you talkabout in your lyrics.

Brown : A lot of the stuff that people glorify, like hustling and thestreet life, Ive seen it. I talk about it, but I talk about it in a differentlight. The biggest experience I think influences me is being a fatherasingle father at that. Im totally focused on that.

Pretti Ladi: What big names would you like to work with?

Brown : Everybody wants to work with Outkast. I like a lot more ofthe old school. I dont listen to a lot of the new music. I like B.O.B. Ilike alternative music. I feel like Im more free to record how I wantrecord.

Pretti Ladi: You said you dont listen to a lot of the new music. Why is that?

Brown: I like music with substance. A lot of the music today doesnhave substance.

Pretti Ladi: How do u feel about other South Carolina artido you feel they embrace each other the way they should.

Brown : I respect them all but when I use to live in GA, it was different. When youre at home, they want stuff for free and dont supporyou as much.

Pretti Ladi: What is one misconception people have aboutyou?

Brown: I think the misconception people have about me is that theyput me on a pedestal I dont think I deserve to be on. They treat melike a preacher, because I speak conscious. They dont really know m

Pretti Ladi: Whats the most stressful part of your job?

Brown: Taking it as business. I enjoy doing everything else. Its just

about waking up in the morning and realizing that you have to makmoney off of it. Its a job to me. Its just about taking it serious.

Pretti Ladi: What type of advice would you give to an aspiring artist?

Brown: Learn the business and be yourself. Dont ever let anybodyknock you away from your goals. If music is your goal, stick to that.Dont have a plan B. Stick with plan A until you put 100 percent in.

Pretti Ladi: When youre not rapping, what are some of thother things you like to do?

Brown: I like to bowl and fish. I also coach soccer. I just like to chill

Pretti Ladi: If you could go back in your past and do any-

thing differently, what would it be?Brown: I would have probably focused more on my education, eventhough I graduated and go to school now too for business manage-ment, I would have learned more about business at a younger age. would have also listened to my mother more.

Pretti Ladi: Whats the side of you that the public barelysees?

Brown : I guess my fun side. I keep to myself and I dont really like spotlight, so when Im around people who really know me, I like tohave fun. I think people just look at me as being more serious all thtime.

Pretti Ladi: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Brown : Be on the lookout for GFB, Grown Folks Business, my entetainment company that Im working on now. Also, be on the lookoufor the re-release of the album A 24/7 Shrimp and Steak Diet Planin December. I also have a mixtape coming out in December toocalled Million Dollar Personality, hosted by DJ G. Friends. how many of us have them?Friendsones we can depend onlets beFriends. Lyrics from the great rap groupWhodini. So you call yourself a friend? Some

of you even go, as far as to say that you are aBEST friend. Like the song says, Friends is aword we use everyday. Most of the time weuse it in the wrong way. Now you can look theword up again and again but the dictionarydoesnt know the meaning of friends. So Iam going to break down the duties and de-scription of those of you who call yourself afriend. This breakdown is for a male to femaleor female to male relationship.

If you are a male and you call yourself a friendto a female, what is your duty? On the out-side it would seem like a simple question thatwould only required a simple answer. In a

way, you are correct. But dont get too sim-ple. This answer still has some complex partsto it. First, you are a companion. Femalesvalue their male friends more then they valuetheir female friends. I know, I know, it doesntseem that way when you catch an episode ofSex In the City or Girlfriends. But understandthat females love to hang with male friends. They love to know what their male friendsknow. They love to be able to think like theirmale friends. And so, as a companion to afemale, you must be receptive to all the thingsthat come with this companionship. Butthere is really only one main duty that youhave as a male friend. As a male friend you

must be willing to be groomed. Yesgroomed. Say it againgroomed. Youthought that this role was ONLY for the sig-nificant other? Thats a common misconcep-tion. Even though you arent the significantother in her life right now, you are a FRIEND,which means that through circumstance andchance you could possibly be elevated intoJump-off category and the elevated again toSignificant other. Remember that women areplanners. Men live for the day, for the mo-ment. Our foresight is short where as womenexamine the potentials and possibilities andthey plan the future based off of those val-ues. Being open to being groomed is simple

though, and very beneficial. Trust that shewont try and change you, only sway you. Be-cause, after all, you are still JUST a friend andnot the significant other. She will drop subtlehints about things such as they type of womenyou associate with, your career progression, the way you deal with your boys, etc. Thisstarts the grooming process. If she can slowlychip away at you then you can and will beelevated from friend to jump-off to significantother. And to a woman, there is no betterman for her then that man who knows herbest. The reason this type of relationship isso strong is because it is also so fragile. Youmust remember that women will sleep with a

man from the club, they will date a new mem-

ber of the church, they will experiment withthe executive at the job way before ever takingit there with you becauseafter all, you arejust a friend and women value their malefriendships a whole hell of a lot more then wegive them credit for. You are penis in a bottle,on the inactive reserved and only called toactive duty in a crisis. So men, know yourrole as a friend. Be receptive to grooming andyou will be a cool friend who becomes a goodfriend who became a dear friend who becamea best friend who may become a jump-offturnt significant other. Grooming is the key.

If you are a female and you call yourself afriend to a male, what is your duty? Well Iwill tell you what it is not. Your duty is NOTto try and be a companion. No, No, No. Menhave enough companions in our life and byyou having a vagina it just further complicatesthe situation. Men dont need vagina carryingcompanions because most vagina carryingwomen go into that 98 percentile categorycalled f*ckable. So you are trying to be Lit-tle Sister or Buddy, he is thinking more alongthe lines of Cut Buddy. This creates confusionand mayhem. The reality is that the womensrole, as a friend cannot be summed up in oneword, rather it should be covered by many

actions. Women friends should do simplethings such as flirt. The reason a womenfriend should flirt is to constantly remind theman that she isnt trying to make him into aBig Brother. This simple act reassures theman that there is always a chance for him andhe has not been placed into that horrible hell-hole called the big brother category. Awoman should also flirt because it is a quickstroke of the ego. A mans ego is fragile andfeeble. It needs constant attention. Withoutthis attention it can become weak and possi-bly shatter. A women friend is there to pre-vent that. She will tell you that the cologneyou are wearing is turning her on.

(Combination of flirting and ego-strokingvery effective technique) She will tell you thatyour rims are shining, your shirt is fitting justright, what ever you are doing in the gym isworking, she likes your cut that way, yourswag is amazing, etc. All these things re-confirms to the man that he isnt reduced toBig Brother and maybe, by chance or circum-stance, he will evolve past being a merefriend. A women friend should also do theminor, less noticeable things. When a maleand female friend go out to the club together, the male should always have the first danceand have an all access dance card with thatwomen. If he cant get a dance with anyone

else in the club that night, he should always

be able to dance with the female friend hecame with. This is a minor part of the egostroke that is so vital in this relation-ship. Also a female friend should be readyand willing to run a trick called Catch andRelease. This is a simple method to mas-ter. A female running catch will ensure shekeeps her distance far enough from the mafriend so that it doesnt look as if she is hiscatch. She wants to hang out right at the eof things so that other women know they arfriends but he is still available. The womenfriend can even help to catch another womby playing the role of Lady Wing

Women. Where a typical wingman focusesrunning interference on the other girls inthe group, the Lady Wing Womens primarfocus is to assist you in the catch. Two traare always better then one. Next comes theRelease part. A women friend playing releawill help you get rid of or release any womewho you have no desire to be associated wianymore. The female friend will step into tpicture as if you are her man and she has laclaim to you with a fury unlike any other, therefore driving away any unwantedwomen. This requires a bit of forced actingyou and her but done correctly, it can be veeffective. For a woman to truly fulfill her r

as a female friend she must master those siple techniques and learn others along theway. Some general rules to follow, dont kiand tell. Men in the friends category do nowant to hear how such and such did all thefreaky things to you that we want to do. Irepeatdont kiss and tell. Also, dont getjealous. Men will have lots of female friendso dont ever think you are the only personwho holds that position. If you are uncom-fortable with the current arraignment youshould elevate the man from a friend to ajump-off and then to a significant other soyou will have the bulk of his attention. Thiwill help to ensure that the competition is

thin on your level. And lastlyone finalething for a female friend to doonce in thehistory of this entire friendshipdo some-thing to surprise him. Do something that isexpected. Take a risk, one time, give it oneshot. Do something unexpected. Let him tayour tongue, dance really, really freaky withhim in the basement party, threaten to fighanother girl over him, let him see you in boshorts and a push up bra, talk dirty to himover instant messenger, etc. Is it not too muto ask of a female friend?

I have some great friends dont you want be a friend of mine, too?
