Happy New Year,

Lets get 2008 started right with another issue of

Geechee OneMagazine. Everybody has been talking

about some of the featured artists so you know

we had to interview Pachino Dino and of course

SC’s first Lady Marion Westwood.

Why is Marion on the cover again? Why not?

Homegirl is doing big things and making mad

distribution in the streets and you know her new

mixtape is going to be blazin’. As for Pachino

Dino, you know the talk about what you think he

did and what the streets are spreading.

Charleston it’s about time we start recognizing

and respecting each other not only for music but

in all aspects of life. LIFE IS TOO SHORT and

making it hard on the next isn’t helping.

Felicia A. Rivers

P.S. I had to start the new year off right with

some throwback baby pictures of some of our local

celebrities.

Dear Geechee One,

I really enjoy every issue of Geechee One. The

stories and the interviews are hot. Keep up the

Good work.

Shondra

Hello,

Your magazine is very entertaining and informing

to me and my girlfriends. I enjoy reading the

interviews with local artists as well as viewing

every months pick of the Beauty and Bachelor.

Last months Beauty (April) was banging. I always

see her in the club so you know I had to tear

that page out and post it on my wall. I hope to

see more of her in a future issue.

H.T.

Dear Geechee One,

I am very curious about getting information about

writing for your magazine. I lived here in

Charleston since I was 8 (I am 32 now), and I

feel that I can give your magazine a little more

street flare with hot interviews with some of

the 843 dimes and some real ballas such as my man

COACH. Don’t sleep on me let me know what I can

do to assist.

Lil Mama

What was up with that last issue? That was the

first issue that I skipped… there was way too

much fabrication. If these people are doing what

they say they are doing, print their soundscans,

let’s see these supposed numbers they are pushing

on these streets and if they run a business,

where’s their EIN number? Stop lying so hard and

grind harder. Oh yeah… I wanna nominate my

mixtape for the award show… I’m getting mad spins

(inside job).

Original Clothing Promoting a Positive Image

HOODS-G (Helping Our Own Do Something Good) is a

clothing line from All Neighborhoods Gear that is for

our community. It allows neighbors to wear popular

and stylish clothing that says they love their neighbor-

hoods and want to be a positive factor within them. It

is true that anyone can wear these clothes. Through

marketing, we will show that this clothing line is not

only fashionable, but it also makes a statement. We

will not perpetuate negative people or images with our

clothing line that serves an international customer

base.

Equipping the Youth of Today

Our objective is to launch a positive clothing line that

will help our youth and maintain their style simultane-

ously. The organization that supports this plan will

have the opportunity to have an impact on tomorrow's

leaders. We will be able to evaluate this plan by

counting the number of informed youth who are saved

from a life of misinformation. Our clothing line is

categorized in hoods. Each one of the hoods deter-

mine what clothing you can wear and if you don't fit

into the hood, then you can't buy the clothing from it.

When you talk about John's Island, what's da first

thing dat comes to mind? Da country? Too far to

drive? Deer? Or dem gullah speakin' people? Well,

all of the above is true. John’s Island is my home.”

Born 'n raised on da island rite dey on river rd."(If

you from over here, you know dat sayin). There are

alot of things about John's Island that you all don't

know. I remember hearin' stories about my great-

grand mother, "Trasher" and her blue ox. What do

you know bout Esau Jenkins? I told Geechee One if

they're going to be the Carolina Guide to Geechee

livin', they needed to come "cross da waddah".

John's Island plays a big part in the history of

Charleston. Did you know dat John's Island is the

second largest island in the United States? Every-

day the island is becomin' inhabitable. By saying

dat, it means the islands are losing their

independence, because we don't eat what we grow

anymore. We rely on the supermarkets. Another

known fact is dat Esau Jenkins was the first Afro-

American from John's Island that ran for school

board in 1956. I asked my Uncle Bill Saunders

about growin' up here. He said it was the way of

life. Uncle Bill said, "We used to work from kin 2

kan." This means they used to work from when

they could see 'til they couldn't see. There are a lot

of historical places here. The Progressive club

(which gained national recognition), Moving Star

Hall (where the society formed in the 1800's), The

famous Angel Oak Tree, and there are places like

the John's Island Airport (Dats right we got our own

airport, but I neva gon fly from it doe). People

here participated in the hospital strike in 1969.

Shots out to Mrs.Pinkney (age 101), who was the

oldest person to march. So whenever yall talk bout

da chuck, ya'll betta parryubble tell am one bout da

island ebn out cha an en going nowhere. "Dey

binna rond". SO RAISE YO HANDS UP FOR MY

HOOD! Go pick up the book, Trees Of Life (1963).

Come on cross diss waddah to Club Bernard’s,

Stanley's, Genesis' Barbershop, Johnson's or just

come to any of the many churches ova here. Nows

dats the first steps to the Carolina Guide To

Geechee Livin!!!!!

The question is what makes a strong man? A

strong man is a pillar to his family. In other

words, he holds his family together.

Whatever goes wrong, he will be there to

defend it with all of his might. With all his

mighty strength, he will have enough strength

to defend the world. With that said, a strong

man has a heavy heart. A man with a heavy

heart is a man with a strong mind.

So, what really defines a strong man? A strong

man can be defining in many ways possible. I

will gladly give you the ways:

A man who has a women with a strong heart

and mind.

A man that takes no sh@# from nobody!

A man who goes thru a lot for his women,

especially his wife.

A man who sticks to his promises and never

gives up when it comes to hell and high water!

A man who believes in himself.

A man who takes care of his family no matter

what it takes.

A man is a true caring individual.

Knowing is to know a strong man is something

else these days.

One might ask oneself, what is the importance

of having a strong man? So, in order to answer

the question you have to know the man.

A strong man is also a man who has faith in the

Supreme Being (GOD), if you know what I

mean. And this is where faith comes into play;

yes, in order to be a strong man, you definitely

have to have faith.

By knowing a strong man, I could also give you

several who are well-known to the fact that

they gave their lives for us:

Jesus of Nazareth a.k.a. Jesus Christ

(8–2 BC/BCE to 29–36 AD/CE), who

is the anointed one and the Messiah.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 1929-

1968, he is a strong and vibrant

soul who put his life on the line

for equality and justice for all.

Mahatma Ghandi 1869-1948, he

became one of the pivotal figures,

if not the main figure, in India's

history in the Twentieth Century.

Along with Jinnah and Nehru,

Gandhi shaped India's history up

to its independence in 1947.

Malcolm X (Malcolm Little) 1925

-1965, he was known to be

intelligent and articulate; by

being so, he (Malcolm) was

appointed as a minister and

national spokesman for the

Nation of Islam. Elijah Muham-

mad also charged him with es-

tablishing new mosques in cities

such as Detroit, Michigan and

Harlem, New York. Malcolm util-

ized newspaper columns, as well

as radio and television to com-

municate the NOI's message

across the United States. His

charisma, drive and conviction

attracted an astounding number

of new members. Malcolm was

largely credited with increasing

membership in the NOI from

500 in 1952 to 30,000 in

1963 .

A man can be short and dumpy and getting bald but if he has fire, women will like him. ~Mae West

My theory is that men are no more liberated than women. ~Indira Gandhi

All men are not slimy warthogs. Some men are silly giraffes, some woebegone puppies, some insecure frogs. But if one is not careful, those slimy warthogs can ruin it for all the others. ~Cynthia Heimel

If the world were a logical place, men would ride side saddle. ~Rita Mae Brown

Now you know „what makes a strong man.‟ I have discussed and gave examples of a true strong man and

what it takes to be one. You may also find many books on what a strong man is. I will be gladly to tell you the

names of them, and here they are:

“Strong Men Armed: The United States Marines Against Japan”, by Robert Leckie

“He-Motions: Even Strong Men Struggle”, by T.D. Jakes

“The Strong Men”, by John Brick

“Strong Men Keep Coming: The Book of African American Men”, by Tonya Bolden

I believe that you would enjoy these books, it will help you understand why men are strong and why they take

the things they do. HAPPY READINGS!!!!!!!!

I believe all four of these strong men have put their lives on the

lines for us so that we could continue on their legacy.

South Carolina’s first Lady “Marion

Westwood”, is still on her grind. You can

catch her in all the banging clubs, in the

streets promoting, and in various stu-

dios mixing with Willie C, Junior G, TR

Flow,N4RED, Lil’ Shuffle,A-1,Dj Goldie

and just about anybody that heavy on

their ground in 2008. Since last being

featured in Geechee One, Marion has

turned out various shows, put out 3

more banging hits and is anticipating

the next release of her blazing album

“Diary of a Black Widow Part 2: Venge-

ance is Mine”, so you know we had to

recap and let those who didn’t get the

memo to know what’s really good with

SC First Lady.

What have you been up to since your

last interview?

I have been doing a lot of marketing

and promotion with new tracks that I

have already put out to the public. We

have a lot of people mouth watering for

my new mixtape , “Diary of the Black

Widow Part 2.”

Can you tell us more about your next

mixtape "Diary of the Black Widow Part

2"? When is it going to be released?

Who do you have collaborations with?

What can we expect from part 2?

Diary of Volume 2 will be released in

early March. Producers that we have on

it are Shawn Dolby, Sean Cleazy, BB

Slim, and some other producers that

will be a surprise to the public. We have

hot Collaborations with TR Flow,

P.I.M.P., and many other surprise

artists. Some of the differences that

people can expect from this album is

that my writers skills matured and I am

now endeavoring on a lot of topics that

male and females are going to feel.

Being that there are a lot of other

female rappers in this area hitting the

scenes, what makes you stand apart?

I am not just representing myself; I now

think a lot more about marketing and

promotions. If I see an artist that is

actually good, I think of a lot on how to

market and promote that artist. I just

don't only see myself as an artist, I see

myself as a CEO of a company. That's

what makes me different from other

female rappers.

What other business venues are you

apart of?

Right now, we are working on a con-

struction business. We are also starting

a promotional company that will be

promoting parties, businesses, artists,

and etc. In the future, I plan to start a

record pool.

One thing about you and your camp,

The Lost Society, is that you promote

yourselves heavily in the streets. Who

else do you see that is on the same

grind?

As for other people on their grind, every-

one has their own way to promote. TLS

chooses the heavy street promoting

way, because we feel that's best for our

company. I feel that's the only way our

artists can be well respected not only by

the streets but also by other companies

in higher positions.

How did you get labeled, South

Carolina 's First Lady?

A lot of people know I have been on my

grind for a long time; the streets gave

me the titled "SC first Lady. I was one of

the first females in the area that was

doing it that big.

Your collaboration with N4RED, on

"She Fat", what were you thinking when

you wrote your verse?

With the “SHE FAT” song, N4RED came

to me and said I was a good candidate

for the song. I wanted it to express how

us females be in the club, looking our

best at our best, and guys be hollering

at us. I wanted to put that all in one

verse and show us representing our

independence.

What is the basic reaction that you get

when the song is played in the club?

I get a real good reaction. That's why the

dj constantly plays them. People hit me

up on myspace about them. Women

shake their butts and guys throw up

their sets.

Your current track, "Pour some Water

on me?' with TR FLOW. Who wrote the

lyrics for that?

I wrote the lyrics for it. The reason why I

could write that song is that I can under-

stand and relate to a stripper. I can

relate to it because I am a hustler

myself. I have the same mentality

hustling cds in the streets and I was

also in the streets club and seen what

the girls do. I toke that material and

wrote my lyrics.

Being the Co- CEO of the Lost Society

and being a Black Woman that is a

Rapper, do you have any struggles?

As for me being a woman not just a

black woman, I have a lot more to prove

to these club owners and promoters

about me being a artist. I feel that I am

just not representing me, but I am also

representing all females' rappers as a

whole while I am out here doing my

thing.

Dealing with the streets and so many

people that you run across, do you

consider yourself a good judge of

character?

I do. When I go out, I can tell what a

person wants and what they don't want.

I can tell if a person is interested. I can

get a good feel of anyone that walks in

my path.

In your music, you do talk about being

sexy and being hard. What type of

message are you sending out to the

grown and sexy that you would want

them to pick up?

I want the grown and sexy to pick up

that I am going through the same issues

that every woman goes through. I feel

that a lot of the ladies can relate

because I am grown and sexy myself.

As for your stage performance, I heard

you are looking for dancers. Are you still

looking? and what type of females are

you looking for? strippers? hip-hop?

I am looking for strippers and dancers.

It matters what track for what song.

Right now we still have some

auditioning going on.

When are you going to start working on

your first music video? Since its for the

song "Put some Water on Me", are you

thinking of shooting it in Club Fantasy?

Yes, Club fantasy. We are still making

decision on the video. Just stayed tuned

and wait for it to come up.

Do we get to see Marion Westwood

come down a stripper pole? (joke)

No, I will have my dancers for that. If

you see Marion Westwood come down a

stripper pole that will be a look alike.

As for us, Geechee One, you know you

are getting a lot of nominations for

Page 9: GeeChee One Magazine Volume 4 Issue 1

Volume IV Issue 3 GeeChee One Magazine Page 9

Mixtape of the Year. Mister Blue still thinks that your

album is one of the best-produced albums of 2007.

How do you feel about that?

I feel good about that. I worked pretty hard to get it to

the part. I thank everybody who has supported me to

get this far.

Music is business. Everyone is trying to get into this

music game, are there any words of encouragements

that you may have for the next Marion Westwood?

The next Marion Westwood is my daughter. She

doesn't exist yet. To other female rappers doing their

thing much love and respect. Just keep doing what

you are doing.

Are you doing any type of promotions outside of the

Charleston area?

I am doing some promoting in ATL with Jumping Jack

Record Pool, Million Dollar Record Pool and BIG CITY

record POOL. They are all playing my music as we

speak. In March, we are going to do a four state

premier city tour in SC, NC, FL, and GA..

How do you feel about Charleston being considered

the Murder Capital of the South? In any of your music,

can we find Marion Westwood shooting a gun? Lol

SC has been the murder capital for the last 5 to 6

years. I have a song about it. I can understand the

loss of family members because I lost a cousin in

2000 due to guns. I can see how Charleston can be

the murder capital in the world. In my music, I am

being realistic about me and my experiences.

Quick Questions

a) What's IN for 2008?

Marion Westwood: “Talent Show in Augusta GA. Lion

HEAD ENT (NC) us throwing a lot more parties and

kids events.

b) What's OUT in 2008?

Marion Westwood: “I no longer associate myself with

people who don't seem real. I learned a lot about

relationships.”

As a DJ that loves Southern Hip-Hop, when you travel out of the South and even to other countries how do they embrace southern

music?

They love it. Hip hop is a universal language. I've seen people that speak no English sing

words and lyrics and do the dance moves to

popular southern hip hop music. Music is truly amazing. It breaks barriers and joins all

races and cultures together.

How did you come up with the nickname Mr.

Southern Smoke?

The name is based off my popular mixtape

series "Southern Smoke."

Where are you located right now?

I just landed in Dallas, Texas for a New Year's eve party. When I’m not on the road

though, I’m in my studio in Tampa, Florida.

For those who never listened to your national broadcast tell us what we can hear

on a normal night?

Southern Smoke Radio is my 2 hour weekly radio show I host and DJ on Sirius Satellite Radio (Channel 40 - Hip Hop Nation) every Thursday night. Sirius has a 3 million listen-ing base - its crazy! We just got a major deal for syndication, so look out for the show

coming to

a radio station near you. For more info hit up

at www.SouthernSmokeRadio.com.

Being a entrepreneur and a demanding national DJ should be very challenging. Can you describe some of the challenges that

you have encountered?

DJ Smallz is a jack of all trades. I'm a DJ, A&R, Innovator, Entrepreneur, Hustler and Trend Setter. I put 110% into anything I touch and I work 25 hours a day, 8 days a week 366 days a year!!! Sometimes wearing many hats is a grueling process, but I have

no regrets. I am truly blessed.

How did it feel after being crowned the #1 DJ

in the South for 2007 at the SEA awards?

It was cool, awards are dope to receive. But the best feeling is truly waking up every day and feeling blessed every day to wake up

and do what I love to do - DJ.

What kind of advice can you give other

southern DJ's out here?

Keep breaking new music and new artists, it’s the only way Southern hip hop music can

survive.

What should we look forward from you in

2008?

Expect the unexpected!!! (Laughing)... Well I just produced my first major record called "Welcome To The Gunshine State" featuring 30 Florida artists together on one record, featuring everybody from Plies to Flo-Rida. The record was a "next generation" concept that I put together and I produced the beat

as well. You can download the record for free on djsmallz.com. The record is a catalyst for the "Southern Smoke" album coming Summer 2008. The "Southern Smoke" album is crazy, I finished 6 records so far and im going to leak the first single after New Year's so look out for that. The south will never be the same once this album drops!!! I've also been shopping tracks to a various major labels and artists, so be on the look out for a couple hits I produced to hit

the airwaves shortly.

Last words:

“Once again don't forget to check out the official website DJSmallz.com. I love breaking new artists and new music. If you need a CD hosted or you need me to DJ your party or event, please send me a message through DJSmallz.com. Big shout to

GeeChee One for holding me down always!!!”

Carlos Cartel is a hardcore rapper

that is coming at you like Three Six Mafia did back in

the day. He will remind you of artists such as 2Pac,

Nas and Rakim. He’s coming with that southern

rowdy music like the old No Limit. In numerous inter-

views it has been stated that he used to role with

Cash Money and later got into a little controversy

with their artist, past and present. Let’s see what’s

been going on with this Chucktown artist lately.

I heard you squashed the beef with Lil Wayne and

Juvenile, but you still don‟t mess with Juvenile. Do

you still have the chain?

No, and the situation is pretty much dead.

Are you still on good terms with Turk?

I talked to Turk the other day; he should be home

next month. He’s in Memphis, TN. I send him clothes

and money. He will be on the “I Got Dat” Remix.

What about the other people you knew from back in

your days running with Cash Money like B.G., among

others?

I’m cool with B.G.; I actually ran into him. I’m cool

with Wayne as well, there wasn’t really a beef, more

like a disagreement.

Which artist do you have a lot of respect for and/or

want to work with for the first time or that you have

already worked with?

Lil Boosie and Crime Mob.

Is there anybody that you worked with that you either

wish you hadn‟t or you don‟t mess with anymore?

No, not really, but I won’t work with certain artist even

if they pay me.

What labels are you looking at as the best home for

you?

Bad Boy South, Def Jam, Atlantic, Universal; basically

whoever throws me the most money.

Your catalogue consists of mixtapes and albums,

what do you have out there and what do you have

coming?

I’ve got “Soulja Stories” and “Causehell Cartel” out

there. I’ve got “The World Is Yours” coming out and it

will be the hardest mixtape of ’08. It’ll have the “I Got

Dat” Remix featuring Yung Cash, Haitian Fresh and

Turk rapping from jail. Skinny from Memphis’ people

did the new beat.

How do you feel about the music scene and artist of

South Carolina?

A couple of them are doing their thing and a lot of

them are not.

What do you think of the T.I. situation?

I think a lot more wrapped vans are going to be

searched.

Do you have any regrets, in life or what you‟ve done in

the music industry so far?

I’ve got them, but everything happens for a reason.

What‟s your ultimate goal?

I want to be a legend in the rap game.

You‟ve stated in a few interviews that you have

people coming after you, do you fear that they‟ll get to

you before you accomplish this goal?

Yeah, in a way, but I also fear that I might get to them

first.

The music industry has truly become a business with

most artists having other ventures, do you want to

venture off into other things?

Yeah, movies, books, magazines, clothing lines and

clubs, among other things.

Where can people find and get you music?

Myspace.com, [email protected] and

[email protected].

What motivates you to do what you do?

I came up with Three Six Mafia back when they was

selling CDs out the trunk of their car and they were

just local artist. Now they’re getting Oscars. I went to

school with Michael Vick and then he was making

millions. I watched Boosie and Buck grow. I knew

Buck before he was rolling with G-Unit and 50. I

pretty much watched a lot of people around me grow

and make money.

Since you went to school with Vick, how do you feel

about his situation with his family turning on him?

Family isn’t anything but a word. Sometimes family

will turn on you quicker than a friend.

That‟s all the questions that I have. Do you have

anything else you want to say?

Shout out to the whole South Cack (South Carolina),

Lil Boosie, Young Turk and Haitian Fresh. I can be

reached at (843) 532-1564.

Page 12: GeeChee One Magazine Volume 4 Issue 1

Volume IV Issue 3 GeeChee One Magazine Page 12

You emerged on the Hip-Hop scene in 2006,

what caused you to make the decision to

rap?

Well back then I was just spitting little free-

styles. People would bite my freestyles, use

it in there material and make money off of

my work. So I made my first single, “Da

Club”, which featured Scrilla and Nickel.

That is what set it off.

How do you feel a year into your career?

People recognize me. I’m doing it and I feel

as though I did it faster than a lot of people

that have done it before me. What took

them like five years; I’ve done in one year.

How was it to perform with notable artist like

Lil Boosie, Bow Wow, Crime Mob, Jibbs and

Yo Gotti?

I don’t mind meeting them, but I’m really all

about my fans. I see them in the back,

shake there hands, then I go out and give my

fans what they came to see, a good perform-

ance. After the show I’m not in the back with

them, I’m in the crowd with my fans.

Are there other artists you look forward to

working within the industry?

Anybody that’s hot and doing there thing.

Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, T.I., Life Jennings,

Three Six Mafia, UGK, Young Joc, Lil Boosie,

Yo Gotti, Gorilla Zoe and a few others. Those

are pretty much the people I listen to.

You are known by other names such as Ma-

trix and Mr. Mix. You’re also known by and

call yourself the “King of the Mix”. This is all

due to how you popularized the words “mix’

and “mixxin” by using it a lot in your lyrics.

What made you do that, was it in an effort to

start a trend or did that just happen?

No one really knows who really started using

mix. I was at a show on stage with a lot of

Charleston artist dancing. The crowd was

looking at us and asking us what that was we

were doing. We told them that it was the

mix. Then we wrote the lyrics to “Do da Mix”

on the way back to the room.

What other trends have you started?

Another one would have to be the way I wear

my chain on my wrist. The other would be

just my swagger in general. I have a whole

different type of swag.

I know that because of the support the com-

munity gives you, you give back by giving free

performances for local children and events.

Why do you think they support you so much?

Some recognize what I do and they recognize

that I come from where they come from.

They also recognize that I keep it real. I take

care of them and they take care of me.

What material do you have out their now?

I have a promo CD of six tracks that is out there in many

different states. I’ve got my first single “Do da Mix” and my

second single “She Phat” featuring Marion Westwood out

there. All the music I have on Myspace. I will also have a

mixtape coming out between February and March.

Are you working on anything currently?

The Doom Squad album, my mixtape and my album. I’m

always working.

What do you want to accomplish in ’08?

I want to get a deal or at least be closer to it. I also want to

be making big money.

Let’s back up for a second. What’s the Doom Squad album

all about?

It’s a compilation album. We’re like the Dungeon Family.

It’s a movement. We’re coming to put South Carolina on the

map and get that money.

You also said that you want to work with UGK. How do you

feel about the death of Pimp C?

I still can’t believe it. That put a big dent in Hip-Hop. He’s

been hot since day one.

How can people get in contact with you?

Through my Myspace account, www.myspace.com/n4red06

or my phone number, (843) 532-9690. You can also search

for me on Google or Youtube.

In your search for a deal, what labels are you looking at the

hardest?

I actually have my own label, 4Way Entertainment; I just

want a distribution or promotion deal.

Well that’s all I have. I know you have to get back to what

you’re always doing and that is working on music. Do you

have anything else you want to say?

Right now it’s all about the local artist. All I ride to is hot

local artist. I’m working for and with the hot local artist. I’m

doing it for the home team.

When did you first decide to become a rapper?

I was 12 when I made that decision. I’ve been

pretty much rapping every since then.

What caused you to make this decision?

Well basically it all started with my cousin. He

was doing it, until he got locked up. That’s when

I took over, label and all.

Who in the industry would you compare your

style to?

I wouldn’t compare myself to anyone because I

have a different style, a real different style.

What material do you have out?

I’ve got the new album titled “Come Test Me”, as

well as the “Baller Life” video. You can view the

video by going to my myspace page, which is

www.myspace.com/lilshuffle.

Are you currently working on anything?

Myself and Nu-Nu dropped a new hit called

“Skittles” that has been getting major play on the

radio and BET.

What are your plans for 2008?

I want to bring my independent label up to a

major label. I just signed a distribution deal, but

I can’t say too much about that right now.

Well that’s all the questions I have for you. Do

you have anything else you’d like to say?

LOOK OUT FOR ME.

Who is the Man Behind the Mask we call

Pachino Dino? Being one of the most popular

street rappers straight out of the Chuck-

Pachino Dino- has made a name not only for

himself but also is playing a big part in putting

the rap game in Charleston on the map. Not

only with his street rep of rapping about the

ups and downs of living in the south but from

rumors of guns, drugs, and lies. Pachino Dino

has a true story to tell.

Carminski: The main attraction is

Pachino Dino. How you doing today Brother?

Pachino: Chillin. Chillin.

Carminski: This is your 1st interview

with Geechee One Magazine. A lot of people

have wanted you in the magazine since it first

started. What did it take to get you to be apart

of the magazine?

Pachino: It didn't take too much.

Just someone reaching their hand out and

showing some love.

Carminski: For those who don't know,

how long have you been rapping?

Pachino: I have been rapping since I

was 6 years old. Almost my whole life.

Carminski: A lot of people don't want

to say that they are #1 or that they are the

best of one category. How do you feel about a

lot of people saying that you are one of the

best MC's in SC?

Pachino: As long as they say I am

one of the best, I'm good. I am not going to

dispute who's the best and this and that. I do

me and they do them.

Carminski: How many albums do you

have out?

Pachino: This would be my fourth

album, "Hustling and Head Bussing", dropping

in February.

Carminski: What label are you

currently signed with?

Pachino: I got a label deal with my

HARD HEAD record label with Sony Red.

Carminski: Can you tell is how that

happened?

Pachino: The hookup that I got from

my man Shahid, the A&R from Warlock

Entertainment. They came down here and

checked me out. They been feeling the vibe

and did a check up on my numbers, and put it

together. So that's what's up.

Carminski: Besides the album, will

there be a video, tour, or anything like that

when the album drops?

Pachino: We have a lot of good

things coming out in the near future that

Pachino will be going hard with.

Carminski: Since your latest album

that came out a few years ago, "Dumming

Out", is their a major change form the old

album compared to the new album? I know

there is going to be growth, but are you still

rapping about the same things?

Pachino: There is always going to be

growth every time your record a song, I just

stick to the script. I go with what's working for

me. I stick to reality. I rap a little about this

and a little bit of that. I rap a little about every-

thing.

Carminski: The way music is going and

how the industry is changing, what does

Pachino have that is going to set the

president back to the way its supposed to be?

Pachino: Pachino Dino has every-

thing the game is lacking. Straight up reality

and the realness. That's all you going to get

from Pachino.

Carminski: I was a witness at the

Ozone Awards, when you pretty much took

over the floor. When you spoke up to Fable,

what came over you? What made you say "Let

me do this"?

Pachino: I don't know. I saw the time

to shine and I just took the opportunity.

Carminski: Since Ozone, what kind of

feedback did you get because everyone is

talking about it?

Pachino: I have been getting a lot of

positive feedback. We taking that and adding

it to the package.

Carminski: On the new album, is there

any other artists working on the album, or is it

the same artists as before?

Pachino: Yea, I got Fat Boy, Crossa,

Lil Keno, and we got some of the old names

and new names mixed up in there.

Carminski: Is Twin D the main

producer?

Pachino: I got some other

productions from some other cats on there

but Twin is the main producer.

Carminski: What inspires Pachino

Dino? Is it the songs you write, the flow you

got, tell us what influences you?

Pachino: Everything around me

influences me.

Carminski: When you work on your

music is there anything that you want your

fans to get from you, like a certain feeling or

inspiration?

Pachino: No. They get whatever

feeling that they want to get.

Carminski: You just signed a major

contract, Lil Ru just got signed too, Did

anyone else you know get signed from SC? Do

you feel that things are going to start

happening in SC?

Pachino: I know on my end I am

going to push.

Carminski: Is there any other artistic

things that we can look forward from you in

the future?

Pachino: Acting for one, and maybe

doing some writing for people.

Carminksi: One last question that

many people wanted to know, where did the

name Pachino Dino come from?

Pachino: The Hood!

“Thanks everybody in the game for keeping

the game going".

Through my educational pursuits, I was under

the impression that Blacks did poorly in our

society because they chose not to succeed.

After much thought, I have come to realize that

that Blacks are more interested in "keeping it

real" than in succeeding. Now, this concept is

rather confusing to your average white guy,

after all it is a "Black thing". I will attempt to

break down how the a culture succeeds in

"keeping it real" in the hopes that greater

cultural sensitivity will be achieved by whitey

who seems to be oblivious to this cultural

phenomenon in his pursuit of success and

affluence. Black people are above all things

interested in "keeping it real". It is difficult to

define this term but I will cite examples of

essential behavior, fashions and cultural

values that constitute "keeping it real". The

ultimate goal of "keeping it real" seems to be

not "acting white".

Language is the key element to "keeping it

real'. Your language must be generally incom-

prehensible and heavily embellished with

profanity. Mumbling will help greatly in

achieving this effect. The goal is to become so

enmeshed with this slang and profanity that

you cannot communicate in any other way. This

will ensure that you will never get a job of any

kind, which is a huge element of keeping it

real. This inability to communicate will also

cause you great frustration in resolving conflict,

which will require you to use frequent and

meaningless violence. Disregard all things

"white" and see no value in what white people

have and continue to accomplish. If you're not

sure whether the endeavor is white just look

around your housing development and see

what other Blacks are doing. For example you

heard the key to knowledge is reading but are

suspect that it may be "white". Upon examina-

tion of the residents of your complex you notice

an utter lack of books and/or newspapers. You

can therefore conclude that reading is indeed

white and you need not worry yourself with

reading. Stay on top of and religiously follow

the latest Black trend. Look toward the leading

Blacks when mindlessly following trends.

For example, 50 Cent wears a doo rag and a

baseball hat sideways. You should do the

same so you can keep it real. Keep close

watch on how these important trends change.

Lace your sneakers only if other leading Blacks

also lace sneakers and keep them unlaced

when they do so as well. It would be a major

faux paux to mess up on proper decorum. Do

not under any circumstances excel in school.

You will be chastised by other ni&&as and you

will be labeled "white". Place all of your energy

into sports, the latest dance moves and the

current form of Urban music. Maintain this

delusion that you will make it to the NBA or

Hollywood until it is too late. By the time that

you realize that you won't make it you will

already be enmeshed in a life of petty crimes

and senseless violence. At this point you

should develop a misplaced and delusional

sense of rage toward all white people. After all

it's whiteys fault that you are where you are.

Under no circumstance should you take any

personal responsibility. This would be mature

and therefore white. Stay angry and keep it

real. Know just enough about history to know

that you had an ancestor that may have been a

slave. Blame all whites for this. Never mind

that it happened hundreds of years ago.

Pay no attention to the fact that a small elite of

wealthy whites and other Africans maintained

the slave trade. Ignore the fact that it was the

bloodshed of thousands of poor whites that

bought your freedom during the Civil War. After

you convert to Islam in prison, be sure to

maintain a healthy hatred of Jews. Never mind

the fact that Jews were at the forefront of all

the civil rights initiatives during the 60's. Just

hate them and keep it real. Act offended by all

old time caricatures of Negroes like Step and

Fetch it, Amos and Andy and Hambo-Sambo. At

the same time continue to perpetuate negative

stereotypes and create new equally ridiculous

self caricatures of the stupid, violent and

obnoxious negro like Martin Lawrence, Chris

Rock, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Flavor Flav, and New

York. Never dress appropriately. If you must

where a suit make sure that it is purple or red

and has sixteen buttons. In other word dress

like a circus clown. Wear silly hats and other

odd articles that draw unnecessary attention to

yourself. Attempt to get a corporate job looking

like this and get all offended when no one

takes you seriously. It's whiteys fault that he

doesn't appreciate your attempt to keep it real

through your clothing.

Ignore the fact that many, many Blacks have

succeeded and landed position of power like

Colin Powell. Accuse then of selling out, being

white, being house ni&&as or being Uncle

Toms. Accuse them of not keeping it real and

discourage your own children from following

the path that these winners have followed.

Stress the importance of keeping it real even if

it means a life of financial and cultural poverty.

Use and abuse the welfare system and become

hopelessly dependent on the system. At the

same time rail against whitey for being selfish

and how you don't need anything from the

white man even though he feeds you, educates

you, houses you and pays for your health care

through his tax dollars. Never appreciate this

and never believe the fact that in most of the

Opening One Mind at a

Time Through Thought

Provoking Articles That May

Upset and Offend, But Offer

the Truth in the End...

Page 25: GeeChee One Magazine Volume 4 Issue 1

world the indigent are left to die in the streets.

Continue to pursue a meaningless existence

that revolves around loafing, playing basket-

ball, drinking, drugs, the consumption of fast

food and fornicating. Never act age appropri-

ate. Continue this pursuit of games and pranks

without regard to age or responsibilities. It's all

part of keeping it real.

Fancy yourself as some one who is in good with

God. Go to church occasionally and hoot, holler

and swing from the rafters. Immediately after-

wards go out and break at least eight or nine of

the ten commandments. Don't worry about

being a hypocrite because chances are, you

don‟t even know what the word means.

Participate in frequent, random and senseless

violence. Never fight a guy with your fist man to

man. Always use some sort of weapon and

always have plenty of other Blacks present for

moral support and to make sure that your

victim doesn't turn around and kick you‟re a$$.

Make sure that when you use violence it is for

meaningful reasons like stealing someone's

sneakers, robbing a 7-11 clerk for $20 and

defending yourself against some perceived and

meaningless slight. Kill your victim if necessary

and try to beat the case on some technicality.

Surround yourself with other Blacks and

develop your world based on what these

people believe. Your worldview should be built

on the bedrock of innuendo, urban legends,

invective ranting of people that hate whites and

TV sitcoms with all Black casts. This will ensure

that your options in this life will be limited to

the block where you live. It will virtually

guarantee that you will never participate in the

fruits of living in a free and democratic society.

But that's OK because you'll be keeping it real.

This is by no means and exhaustive list. There

is so much to keeping it real that it could never

be encapsulated in any book or column but

here are the basics:

::Avoiding work::

This is the bedrock of keeping it real and all

those that consider themselves as keeping it

real should avoid any work that does not

involve dealing drugs, rapping, basketball or

some other form of entertainment. In other

words virtually all work. It's not enough that you

avoid work at all cost. You must also take great

pride in this. Never act embarrassed about

using EBT cards or of living with your mother in

a housing development. This should be

embraced as an attribute or a badge of honor.

You could take a job, get some self respect

and get out of the projects but that would be

"acting white" and therefore not consistent with

the mantra of keeping it real.

::Sneakers::

For most run of the mill Blacks their sneakers

will be their most important and prized

possessions. Most will have to have a pair of

celebrity-authorized sneakers. These are only

and exclusively basketball sneakers and they

must run somewhere around the neighborhood

of $150 dollars. If this means that your

children have to do with out food it's worth it.

As Nelly said "pimping ain't easy" and it's

particularly costly for an average Black person.

Obtain those celebrity authorized basketball

sneakers by any means necessary.

::Guns::

This is a great segue way from sneakers

because there's a good chance that you'll be

obtaining your sneakers or relinquishing them

at the point of a gun. Many Blacks love guns

and know that brandishing a gun is an

essential element to keeping it real. But lets be

clear about a few things. First of all the guns

must never be registered or purchased from a

licensed hand gun dealer. They should always

be purchased in some filth-strewn alley and

they must always have the serial number

scratched off in a makeshift fashion. Never

practice at a shooting range. Never clean the

gun or know any of the most basic gun

maintenance routines. Carry the gun every-

where in the front of your trousers and

brandish it at the drop of a hat. If you get

perturbed or annoyed in the least shoot the

offender with no regard to innocent bystanders.

Never hit your intended target. Always make

sure that you cap some 10-year-old child who is

aspiring to be better than his or her surround-

ings and show no remorse for killing an

innocent.

::Hats::

Hats are a must for anybody trying to keep it

real. If you happen to find yourself in the black

$20, immediately spend it on a hat as opposed

to a book for your kid or putting it in savings. If

you don't have any extra money for a hat, which

is most likely the case, don't fret. You can use

some ingenuity for your headwear. Steal your

great-great grandmother's support hose and

wear them on your head. Wear a shower cap, a

bucket or a dishtowel on your

head. The more absurd the

better. Other Blacks will give

you props for being so anti-

social and keeping it so real.

::Cellphones::

I can't emphasize the impor-

tance of this enough. As a

side, a good ni**er should

never have a regular house

phone that is in service but

he should always have about

a d oz e n ce l l p h on e s

in various states of working

order. Next to your sneakers

this will be the single

biggest investment that you

will ever make. Fortunately

for you credit is not an issue when getting a

cellphone. You could open up an account with

$35 at that buggy cellphone store. Unfortu-

nately for you this cellphone will be shut off by

the second billing period. No problem. Carry the

dead phone around with you at all times and

carry on fake conversations in public so other

Blacks will know what a player you are. If you

are without a cellphone, you are not really

keeping it real. Having a cellphone is one of

those things that won't get you props from your

people from around the way but it is essential if

you are to be seen as someone who is keeping

it real. Having a cellphone means you're

important and that you need to be reached at

any moment. Unless your selling drugs we all

know this isn't true. I mean, who could possibly

be calling you and what could they possibly be

talking about? I don't think I want to know.

::Basketball::

To most non-blacks, basketball is a game that

is played by boys. It's a great sport but little

more than a diversion for most of humanity if

they even play it or watch it at all. The fact is

that about 95% of the people in the world could

give a damn about basketball. The polar

opposite is true for Blacks. All ghetto boys are

obsessed with basketball. Every one of them

needs to put on the fade that he has game

even if he can't tie his shoes without falling

over. To put it into perspective, every American

white boy dreams of becoming President some-

day. He wants to be the number one man in

America so he purses a variety of different

activities that will make him suitable for the

Presidency. Most don't become President but

these boys have picked up hundreds of positive

traits that can be applied to hundreds of

different types of careers. All their direct

opposites dream of becoming men, wearing

Page 26: GeeChee One Magazine Volume 4 Issue 1

GeeChee One Magazine Volume IV Issue 1 www.geecheeone.com Page 4

shorts pants and chasing other Blacks in short

pants around a basketball court in the NBA.

Well most of these that aspire don't become

NBA stars and along the way they have picked

up one skill that can't be applied to any job.

This really comes in handy if your life's goal is

to avoid doing any real work and to remain

immature.

::Talking loud, shouting profanities & arguing::

This is a three for one deal. All those that do

the above should genuinely be people that are

unpleasant to be around and difficult to get

along with. This is another cornerstone of keep-

ing it real. The key to this is vulgarity, is you

really need to strive to be a vulgar person with

no regard to the feelings of others when talking

loudly, shouting profanities and arguing. This

should be easy for you achieve. Chances are

you already talk loud because everyone in your

housing development or cellblock screams and

yells constantly. Swearing should constitute at

least 2/3 of all the words in your vocabulary.

This comes quite naturally to all Blacks. Just

minutes ago I heard a brother say to another ,

"man, f**k that mother-f***ing mother-

f***er." Nice. Now since your already shouting

profanities at the top of your lungs there's

pretty good chance that you're going to annoy,

insult or offend someone. This will of course

escalate into an argument. You really know you

got this down when the arguing ensues and

everything should involve an argument. Every-

thing in your world should culminate into a full-

blown crisis. McDonald's, the welfare office, the

wig shop, the nail salon and the basketball

court are all perfect venues for talking loudly,

shouting profanities and arguing.

Well that's it for this issue. Tune in next time

when I will address the following topics: pranks,

shucking, jiving, goofing and sleeping till noon

everyday. Until then Keep it Real!

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible

like we treat our cell phones.

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

What if we flipped through it several times a day?

What if we used it to receive messages from the text?

What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?

What if we used it as we traveled?

What if we used it in case of an emergency?

What if we upgraded it to get the latest version?

What if we gave it to our kids as gifts?

Its just something to think about.

We all go through our various trials in life and we all deal with them in

a way we deem reasonable to us. I like to try to make since of every

situation I encounter and try to learn a "life lesson" from it, and use it to

better myself. Recently I have went through a series of events that has

caused me to not only look into myself but look into the company I

keep. This really got me to thinking about how people are just like

window tint. Stop looking at me sideways, I will explain. Window tint is

designed so you can clearly see out but make it hard for you to see in.

The lower the percent of tint the harder it is to see through it. We all

have our fair share of tint that we put up because we don't want to

seem transparent to others, but the amount of tint we put up really

shows the type of person we really are. Most people are content with

the "factory tint" that we came with. It's just dark enough that we are

not completely transparent to others but it does shield enough that we

feel safe with ourselves. At this level we are still capable to look back

on ourselves and be able to see the same faults that we are so easy to

find in others. At this level others don't have to get to close to know the

real you, they don't have to work to hard to see the real you. Then you

have the people that go for the "after market" tint. These are the people

that need that extra security, its evident they have more to hide. These

are the people that have no problem looking at everyone else flaws but

because of the darker tint they have a hard time looking back on them-

selves. You have to get close to these people just to get to know any-

thing about them, and the closer you get the more flaws you see.

The darker the tint, the more people are trying to hide. But their true

selves eventually rears it's ugly head. Believe me, we all have to

question the company we keep at times. Sometimes, during those

trials, we may wonder why we keep that company in the first place. And

once we decide to rid ourselves of the ugliness, the silliness, the

childish playground antics, the drama, the "woe is me" attitude, the

negativity of those tinted folks, we realize how much easier our lives

are and could have been without those people in the first place. But

yes! Let it be a life lesson. Learn from your mistakes. Sometimes

people's tint is so dark that even they don't know themselves. They

think everything is everyone else's fault. They blame the world for their

problems. They think the world owes them something. They think

everything is suppose to conform to their wants and needs. When in

fact, they are the problem. Instead of these tinted people realizing, it

can't be everybody else all the time, they walk around thinking they are

flawless, perfect and in no need of change. Change is good. Change is

the best for some. Change is needed for others! But you know what?

I'm happy with my factory tint. I'm happy with me. I'm happy with my

life. I'm happy with the people I now have around me. Sometimes

switching out those dark, unsatisfactory tinted people for those factory

tinted people is just what the doctor ordered. I like to see clearly so I'm

going to keep removing those uncertain, too dark, unacceptable dark

tinted people.

Everyone has tint, how dark is up to you? Understand, be it, light or

dark tint, the shade of your tint tells much more about you then what

you are hiding behind it....

They say that BLACK is the absence of color, but if you mix all the colors

in the crayon box, you have black. What colors do you mix to make

white? Just something to think about… why do they hate us??

I am a Strong Black man and as such . . .

I will speak to women as human beings, not as

potential sex partners, not as someone with

less value than myself, not someone I must

dominate in order to validate my manhood.

I will not plan out how I can get a woman into

bed before I even introduce myself.

I will not judge a woman‟s beauty, worth or

value by the length of her hair, the length of her

fingernails, the roundness of her behind or the

size of her feet, and most importantly, the color

of her skin, just as I would not want to be

judged by the length of my penis, the size of my

wallet, the car I drive, or the amount of money I

make.

I will make every effort to make sure women

know that they are safe when they are in my

presence. I will not touch, grope, or physically

intimidate them and I will not make unwanted

sexual advances towards them.

I will NOT strike, restrain, or threaten a woman.

I will accept that if a woman says no, she

means she‟s not interested in me sexually and

that is her right. I will never force a woman to

have sex with me.

I will ask my women friends, sisters and

acquaintances what makes them feel under

valued, unappreciated and objectified and I will

listen closely and make efforts to correct those

things that I do wrong.

When a woman tells me something is

insensitive, demeaning, or offensive, I will not

dismiss it immediately as male bashing. I will

take her critique just as I would expect some-

one to consider mine.

I will find something other than a woman‟s

looks to compliment her about. I will make

note of her intellect, her personality, her ideas,

her imagination, and her accomplishments.

I will acknowledge that my mother, sister, and

daughters are Black women, deserving of

respect, and I will work to treat all Black

women as I would have other men treat the

women in my life.

I will accept responsibility for my wrongdoings, I

will not lie in an attempt to get away with my

misdeeds, I will apologize when I‟ve done

something wrong and I will deal with the

consequences of my actions by facing them

head on.

I will not partake in conversations with other

men when they are ridiculing women‟s looks,

bodies, or opinions.

I will remove the words b**ch, h*e, trick,

chicken head, and all other derogatory names

for women from my vocabulary because I

recognize them to be sexist and degrading.

I will not refer to sex with a woman as hitting it,

killing it, stabbing it, or anything that has

violent connotations nor will it diminish the

humanity of a woman by referring to sex with

her as getting “it” or getting “some” .

I will not define my manhood by the length of

my penis, I will define my manhood as fulfilling

promises I keep, in having integrity, in choosing

mature solutions to problems and how I can be

honest even when it‟s difficult.

I will speak out when I see other men

disrespecting women.

I will not refer to myself as a pimp, a dog, a

thug, or a baller because I will not let racist

stereotypes define me.

I will learn how to communicate my feelings

rather than deny I have them or trying to

suppress them with sex, drugs, adrenaline, or

alcohol.

Words are best used in quality, not quantity.

Be selective…

We‟re no longer on the playground where

making a friend was a game of tag away.

Study the people that you hold close to you.

Ask yourself if they make you better, and

vice-versa.

Make sure that you‟re on the same page with

those who matter to you. When real

recognizes real and driven recognizes driven,

you‟re not only on the same page, your story

of success shall be written with the same

pen.

If you don‟t want your business to be out in

the streets or used against you, don‟t trust

anyone with it.

Sex is today's society has become a casual

topic and act. Many young people are

pressured in to having sex as a result of

influences from T.V, magazines, movies and

peer group persuasions. The days when

virginity was something to be cherished and

celebrated are long over. In fact, most virgins

today are ridiculed or laughed at when they are

found to be so. As a result, a lot of people who

are virgins often feel ashamed to admit to it. I

personally feel that this whole scenario is a

rather sad one because pre-marital/extra-

marital sex is actually a very serious matter. It

has been argued by some Christians, that it

was in fact the 'first sin' in the Bible. They ar-

gue that the biblical 'tree of life' which God

commanded Adam and Eve not to eat from

was actually a metaphor for sex.

Regardless of whether you believe this or not,

you will have to agree that most of the sinful,

criminal and immoral acts done in today's

society are linked to or motivated by sex in one

way or the other. Sexuality is perhaps the most

powerful force in today's society. This is clear

from what we see everywhere on billboards,

magazines, movies...just everywhere.

Furthermore, there is also the unmistakable

fact that sexual sin is perhaps the most

common sin mentioned in the Bible. Whenever

God was describing the unfaithfulness of the

people Israel, he always used words like

'prostitution', 'adultery' and 'whoredom'. These

terms sometimes had literal meanings and

other times, they were euphemisms for just

general unfaithfulness and disloyalty. The

reason for this is because ritual sex and sex in

the worship of false gods or demons was

something that was common during biblical

times. With all this in mind, it's not irrational to

believe that the first sin was in fact sex.

Either way, as shown in the Bible, pre-marital

sex is a very big deal for God and it should be a

big deal for you as well because it is written:

'Stay away from sexual sins (fornication). Other

sins that people commit don't affect their

bodies the same way sexual sins do. People

who sin sexually sin against their own

bodies' (1 Corinthians 6:18). This passage

further add to the significance of sexual sin

also called 'fornication' in the Bible. In fact, it is

perhaps suggesting that sexual sin is one of

the most serious sins, if not the most serious.

There are other passages relating to fornica-

tion as seen below:

Deuteronomy 23: 17: There shall be no whore

of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite

1 Thess.4: 3: For this is the will of God, even

your sanctification, that ye should abstain from

fornication.

1 Cor. 6: 9: Know ye not that the unrighteous

shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not

deceived: neither fornicators, nor

Galatians 5: 19: Now the works of the flesh are

manifest, which are these; Adultery,

fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

(homosexual) of the sons of Israel. idolaters,

nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of

themselves with mankind.

Acts 15: 20: But that we write unto them, that

they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from

fornication, and from things strangled, and

from blood.

The Bible makes it clear that God will judge all

fornicators both in this world and on the last

day. This is a sure thing for it is written:

Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and

the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for

fornicators and adulterers God will judge

(Hebrews 13:4)

I suppose some people might not understand

why it's a big deal. But the truth is sexual sin is

one of the key things that is causing problems

in many cultures and societies today.

Fornication or pre-marital sex constantly leads

to things like diseases like STDs which can be

life-threatening and can be passed down

generations, murders, cheating, jealousy,

divorce, dysfunctional families, child abuse,

rape, depravity and the list goes on. So, in fact,

sexual sin does always eventually ruin lives

whether in the present or way down in the

future. Sexual sin also has spiritual

repercussions because demons and spirits

pass from people to people and merge with

people through sexual sin. Many of demons

are those that cause sicknesses in the body

like epilepsy amongst others. The bottom line

is: stay aware from pre-marital sex and every

other sexual act outside marriage for it brings

harm to you and other people around you in

the end.

I am not saying that I have not had sex before

marriage. What I am saying is that in this day

and time, we should strive to live in a better

way, a more moral way, a Godly way.

Wifey is the sexiest, most successful and most

respected of all the women. She is loved, needed and

wanted by her man...she is virtually irreplaceable. She

is the girl that the guy loves and will always love, he

never wants to see her with another man… but he will

cheat on her with Baby Girl until he is mature enough

to realize that if he gets caught or f**ks up in any way

and loses Wifey, he would be screwed, and never be

happy again. Wifey gets along with mom, is

independent, never nags, loves to dress sexy for her

man, can cook and loves to keep a clean house. Wifey

gets called 5 or 6 times a day. Drawback of Wifey, she

loves public displays of affection...which might interfere

with the acquisition of a Side Piece.

Baby Girl is always just as hot as wifey and usually has a

very active social life...she is replaceable, thinks she's the

next Wifey, but will only be Wifey if an extreme disaster

takes place. Baby Girl gets some of the benefits of Wifey,

like quality time every now and then and even presents

on birthdays and holidays, but that's as far as it goes. The

main reason to have Baby Girl is in case Wife really really

f**ks up, she can be replaced in a matter of weeks

because Baby Girl has been groomed to slip right into her

spot. Be careful of Baby Girl, she tends to be just as

attached as Wifey and therefore can be dangerous to the

Side Piece. Biggest benefit of Baby Girl...she is extremely

private and hates causing a scene, baby girl can come

into the same restaurant as you and wifey and wifey will

have no idea you two even know each other. Baby Girl is a

master of disguise as well.

Page 31: GeeChee One Magazine Volume 4 Issue 1

GeeChee One Magazine Volume IV Issue 1 www.geecheeone.com Page 9

Side Piece, usually a female that the guy uses only for

sex and other pleasures, she is usually the one that he

goes to for that 3-some or some late night brainstorming

after the club. When Wifey is acting up and Baby Girl is

at work, the Side Piece is usually the one to hold him

over for a few hours. He can meet with the Side Piece

for reasons other than sex, but normally that only

happens one week during the month. Side Pieces are

hard to spot when they are out because most of her

friends are either Wifey's or Jump Offs. Drawback of

having more than one side piece, they usually know

each other somehow...we kinda think there is a side

piece network.com or something. Try to keep your side

piece count below 4 if possible.

Jump Off...every mans dream and worst nightmare. She is

trying to move up in life, wants to be a Side Piece or Wifey

but doesn't know how to go about it. They are just the girls

he hollas at when he is with his boys...she is usually stored

in the cell phone by a nickname because he barely

remembers her real name and where he met her...he only

recalls how fat her a** was. The Jump Off gets called in

emergencies only, when wifey is moody, baby girl is on

vacation and side piece is with her baby's father. The Jump

Off is extremely dangerous in public for a number of reasons,

she is usually 5 other guys jump off as well, so she might

cause drama with you and one of those dudes if you slip up,

she also has no problem confronting you in the mall when

you are with Wifey (something that baby girl would never do)

and the most dangerous thing about Jump Off… she

always seems to find out where you live and or work.

Chances are, you've been in this situation. Or, if

you're too goody-goody to admit it, you've had a

"friend" who was in the same situation. It's

nothing to be ashamed of, either way. It's not

something you want to share at the Thanksgiv-

ing dinner table with all your relatives either,

but at one point or another, the majority of us

have had a one-night stand. Whether it be a

drunken blur from a fraternity party or a

flirtation from across the bar that went a bit too

far, and you wake up to find yourself next to a

guy that looked a lot more like Leonardo

DiCaprio ten shots ago, you find yourself in the

ultimate of awkward situations. Don't lose your

cool, whatever you do, and just follow the

following set of guidelines which will help you

get through this moment.

10) Don't give him the whole "I've never done

this before" routine. That will just make him

more likely to think of this as a repeat

occurrence for you. You don't need to prove

yourself to anyone. You know in your heart

whether or not this is in your nature, and it can

be your little secret. No one needs to know how

many strangers you've gone home with on

multiple occasions. You should feel free to

forget that number too, if you like. And if the

guy asks you if you've done this before, simply

say, "It's not normally my nature," give him a

smile, and change the subject. Enough said.

9) Don't overstay your welcome. You wake up,

look at the clock, and you should already be

glancing around the room, eyeing your

belongings. Don't wait around in bed, especially

after he gets up. Don't hang out while he takes

a shower either. When the guy leaves the room

to take his shower, he secretly is hoping that

you will leave during that period of time. Unless

he specifically indicates that he would like you

to stick around, don't assume. Another

indicator of him wanting you to stay would be if

he actually invited you to shower with him. I still

say you should leave, even when offered the

invite. You don't want to seem too clingy or

eager. Plus, that shower could be just another

testosterone-filled excuse so he can score an

extra morning session before he starts his day.

8) Don't attempt to engage him in

conversation. Not all guys are morning people,

and having a conversation with a stranger you

just woke up next to can be one of the

strangest and most uncomfortable

experiences. If you find that he's answering you

in mono-syllables, that's your indicator right

there that he just doesn't want to talk. And if

you feel that you just must chat with him, don't

mention the hook-up, the future, or anything

touchy in that aspect. You'll only make him that

much more eager to have you leave.

7) Don't offer to leave your number or ask him

to call you. When men want something, they

will get it themselves. If he has any intention of

calling you, he will ask that you write down your

number before you leave. Obviously if you say

to him, "Do you want my number?" he's going to

feel bad if he says no, so any male would feel

the safer choice would be to have you write

down your digits, and then they just go straight

into the trashcan. And you will be waiting by the

phone for a call that will never come!

6) If possible, try to leave before he wakes up.

It will make you that much more mysterious.

And if he really likes you, he'll attempt to find

you. He'll ask around, maybe go again to the

same fraternity house or bar that you met at,

and he'll look for you. Guys will go to great

lengths for a girl they really view as worth the

effort.

5) If he does invite you for breakfast or to hang

out, even if you really want to, thank him but

turn down the offer. If he has any real interest

in you, he will try to set up a future date with

you. Besides, do you really want to sit across

from the table from him in broad daylight with

last night's makeup still caked on?

4) If you don't remember his name, don't ask

him what it is. That will look very bad on your

part. See if he remembers yours first. That's a

true indicator as to how much interest he really

has in you.

3) If you happen to wake up in his frat house

and find yourself heading down the "Walk of

Shame", don't act embarrassed or ashamed.

Simply roll your eyes, act like you couldn't care

less, and walk out with your head straight up in

the air. You have nothing to be ashamed about.

2) Don't ask him "how you were" last night.

Chances are, he probably doesn't remember.

And if he does, he will say something about it.

1) Don't get on your cell phone while you get

dressed in front of him and tell your sorority

sister that you're "in some random guy's room

and can't remember how crazy last night was."

Save the gossip for when you have left and are

well under way.

Follow the list of guidelines and you'll ease out

of any sticky one-night stand situation with

finesse!!

1) Baby Damage - Birth has a

traumatic effect on the female

form. Pregnancy leaves stretch

marks, saggy breasts, and

c-section scars. I've also heard

that the p**sy is even stretched

more. Then there's the weight

gain. Most women never lose it

or they never get their former hot

shape back.

2) "I Can't Find A Baby Sitter" -

Women will use this as an

excuse to get out of date with

you or they may legitimately

can't find a baby sitter. Either

case it isn't your problem and

you shouldn't have to deal with

it.

3) Babies Interrupt Sex - I've had this happen to me. I was having sex

with a woman and her kid interrupted my sex. Needless to say I was

pissed. If some kid is going to interrupt the meanest h**d you've ever

gotten, that kid should have your last name.

4) Baby's Daddy - When your dealing with a woman and your getting to

know her, you shouldn't have to deal with her kid's father. Some guys

can't get over the fact that their ex has moved on. Before, he was an

inattentive jerk and didn't give a f**k about her. Now that you've

entered into the picture, the dude wants to be the ideal boyfriend and a

"father of the year" nominee." The guy starts stalking her and wants to

fight you. Even if the woman and guy are on good terms, the guy feels

as if he can always smash. He knows her. He knows what she wants to

hear and what makes her happy. The next thing you know you are

having this conversation- "I've decided to try and make it work with

Myles's dad". Best way to avoid the situation is to avoid single moms.

5) Rent-A-Daddy - Realizing her mistake, realizing that kids (especially

boys, they need fathers,) The woman gets desperate, any and every guy

has the potential to be "daddy." You're out trying to get some, not inherit

a family.

6) The Kids Are Still Up - This is only a problem if your trying to pursue

something other than a booty call. Wanting to spend time with you, but

not wanting to bring strange men around her kids, you find yourself only

seeing this female after 10 or 11PM. You want to move forward, but

she has to make sure you are the "one." This could take months. I

suggest dealing with women that are readily available to hang out.

7) Double Heart Break - You are with the woman, then everything falls

apart. Not only do you have to deal with losing the woman, but you've

formed a bond with the lil‟ one‟s. You and lil‟ man play XBOX together,

watch the Miami Heat hoop it up, go to the Battery, and things dads do

with their sons or daughters. On top of maybe missing the woman, you

miss her children.

8) You Are Not My Dad. - You hook up with the woman, eventually the

issue of discipline is going to come up. Some kids being resentful or just

being a bratty %#&@$! is going to eventually pull the "You can‟t tell me

what to do, you are not my dad!" card. Personally, if I did date single

mothers and some dumba** kid pulled that stunt on me, I would say,

"Your right. I'm not your father. Since I have no authority over you and

you refuse to listen to me, you need to pack your sh*t and go live with

your dad." This would be a deal breaker for me. In addition, some

mothers or the dad would have problems with you disciplining their kid.

I'm sorry, if some kid broke my Sony laptop, I'm whooping his a** .

9) You Know What She Going To Do - She already has one kid, if you

knock her up, it's safe to assume she's going to have another one.

10) Bad Judge of Character - This female got knocked up by somebody

that she was "supposedly in love with." Not only is she a bad judge of

character, she's grossly irresponsible. The same guy that's an a**hole

now, is the same guy she thought the world of and had unprotected sex

with.

11) Unnecessary Expenditures - Eventually you'll get to meet the kid(s.)

Soon those dates turn into family outings. Instead of paying for two

people, your paying for three or more. The same goes if you move in

with her.

12) You'll Never Be #1 - When your trying to build a relationship with

somebody, you should be the focus of the woman's life. It should be

about you and her. If she has a kid, you'll never be #1!!! That's not a bad

thing either, but it's something I don't want to deal with. Neither should

you.

13) Tag, Your It! - This should be the biggest deterrent to ever dealing

with a single mother. In some jurisdictions, my home state of

Connecticut is one of them, if you start dealing with a female with kids,

move in with her and things go south, the female can sue you for child

support. She can claim that her and her child have "become accus-

tomed to you supporting them." YOU COULD END UP POSSIBILY PAYING

CHILD SUPPORT FOR A KID THAT ISN'T EVEN YOURS! Imagine being

extorted money because you were doing what you thought was the

"right thing." The state doesn't give a rat's a** about the relationship

being over or you being a "good guy." They just don't want the her on

welfare. So as far as your concerned, it's "Tag, you‟re it.”

I'm angry that the image of Black men in

America is once again, under attack. There has

been one new stereotype added to the list over

the past few decades, and that is the Black

man in drag, currently re-emerging, headed by

filmmaker/actor Tyler Perry.

The Black man in drag is one of the new coons.

It‟s hip and chic and the stereotype is comfort-

able for all who may have fear a strong Black

man. For white people, the stereotype

presents a non-threatening Black male who

won't stand up to racism or start a revolution.

No one has to oppress him, because he‟s self-

castrated.

The stereotype is also comfortable for women

who have had nothing good come from

relationships with Black men because a

castrated clown won‟t tell them what to do,

won't beat them and will sit down with them as

nearly one of them. Perhaps they find comfort

in this new role of the sensitive male gone too

far, so far that he has become the woman.

Literally.

It‟s a bad knockoff of Flip Wilson‟s Geraldine,

which was an anomaly during a period when at

least we attempted to protect our own image.

But currently, no one is protecting anything.

We offer up our women to be degraded in

garbage over beats called Rap music, and we

offer ourselves up in any available vehicle.

Tyler Perry aint killing nobody and his work aint

as bad as other material, but is not ground

breaking culturally revolutionary material.

Let's call it what it is: This is a grown man

running around dressed as a woman.

And, dig, if you will the release of Martin

Lawrence's drag queen gig "Big Mama's House,

II," during the same time period.

Even the most popular comedian today, Dave

Chappelle recoiled when they came at him with

the dress, which he acknowledges is always a

part of the plan for Black men in

entertainment.

Jamie Foxx wore the dress as Wanda long

before Oscar consideration. And Martin

Lawrence first played "dress up" on his very

own sitcom, playing an ugly, ignorant woman

that Black women should have beaten him for.

But no one will beat him or Tyler Perry, and

really, more people will be angry with me for

writing this than will even take issue with the

celebration of Black men in drag on the silver

screen.

It's not that I expect every Black film to contain

images the likes of Malcolm X or Muhammad

Ali, or for Denzel Washington, Lawrence

Fishburne, Will Smith and Mos Def to star in

everything, but since we are spending the

dollars to make the difference, we should at

least expect something more dignified than

what we have been getting.

The excuse for any film company is always that

different stories and different characters won‟t

do the same numbers. That has only become

true because the nation, including the Black

portion has come to expect something

simplistic and non-threatening to deal with

when it comes to our images on film.

And the super-irrelevant NAACP looks foolish

each year slinging so-called "Image Awards" to

people who are crapping on our image.

Everyone from grandmothers to college girls

has the Madea DVD collection, but the most

significant and scary portion of Perry‟s

audience is Black males.

The fact that Black men have lined up to see a

self-castrated Negro clown is evidence of

something else I'll be writing about soon--the

effeminization of the Black man. And let's be

very clear: This is not about bashing gays, but

purely about the diminishing and effeminiza-

tion of the Black male.

While some may cheer for Perry‟s success,

making claims of what it may portend for other

Black films, I weep for what it portends for the

Black male image.

At the end of the Civil Rights Movement, the

new push was for Black women by Black

women to end their own oppression, but what

of the Black male, relegated to specific

extremes of hyper masculinity or emasculiza-

tion near eunuch status? What of the Black

boys who are taught by Black women to hate/

despise their fathers? What of our new culture

of Black male effeminization? Perhaps it's time

for Black men to take up a movement of our

own, specifically to define ourselves and to

protect our community.

The pursuit of such a movement would not be

juxtaposed to Black women's dance with

feminism, as both the male and female

psyches in the race have been harmed from

sexual misidentification and oppression. Some

of our sisters are shouting from the rooftops

that strong Black women are a threat, even if

only to Black men, but the simple truth is that

strong Black men have always been a threat to

many people in this nation, including some of

My friend, Darlisha, was upset when I brought this

concept up to her one weekend. She got Adrian and

Keya to voice some of the same rhetoric. Regardless,

the truth as I see it, shall be told. I don‟t hate the man, I

just hate what he‟s doing to the image of Black men.

Page 35: GeeChee One Magazine Volume 4 Issue 1

GeeChee One Magazine Volume IV Issue 1 www.geecheeone.com Page 13

our own people who would rather embrace the

likes of Madea than Martin Luther King, Jr. or

Malcolm X.

But as we examine the race's difficulties and

try to exact solutions, we must first examine

the images that today's young Black men are

emulating.

At one end of the extreme in the diminishing of

the Black male image is the movement of men

into the thug mentality, as desired by even

some of our most sophisticated females (“I

want an educated man with a little thug in

him…”). Grown men who have never had a

fight in their lives are claiming to be thugs,

dressing like gangsters and talking like street

thugs, looking silly and setting horrible

examples for the emerging generation of Black

men.

At the other end of the extreme is the

effeminate Black male, which includes the

Black man in drag as well as the emerging

Black “Metrosexual,” who may or may not be

gay, but is certainly not a man‟s man.

Yesterday‟s father would beat Junior for

dressing that way and for wearing makeup and

yesterday, Junior would not have paid any

attention to the softer societal trends unless

he was really gay, and perhaps, not even then.

Yet, today, we see the re-emergence of

previously horrifying Black male images.

Certainly, the Black female image is also under

attack. But as we see an emergence of

consciousness among younger Black women,

who seek to protect their image, Black men

must stand up and do the same.

We need to protect ourselves and then come

together to protect each other. We already

know that no one else will.

I used to be the voice for my people that would give them the news

I’ve given my dues; now as an art I am meaningless

I opened eyes to being silenced, why’s nobody seeing this

That’s why I’m in the place I am instead of where I ought to be

The thought of me, brings joy, dancing and celebration

Used to be god with the flow, one glance they sell to Satan

I used to be down low, a Black man’s secret

Now the whole world sees it and now I’m spitting weak sh*t

Born out the US, I’ve seen the world, traveled over seas and oceans

So understand fully when I say I’m poetry in motion

Now on the Charlio streets the aspiration’s to scatter me

So I’m living that line imitation is flattery

But choosing the worst of me, making me a weak flow

But taking MTV to the streets, now the prize is each other

Numerous Blacks dead and you blame me, Hip Hop

And who your clique shot was in my name, this sh*t stops.

The likes of this sh*t has got me turning and tossing

You burn me when flossing and it’s going to earn me a coffin

Got to set the record straight I’m not faking, no lies

I was once revolutionary now impostors weaken the vision

Yet I’m the reason these deadbeats aren’t in the streets or in prison

Malik Questions...

I have been thinking about getting serious with a white

girl. We have been out a few times and really have fun

together. We hit the clubs, shoot pool, go out to eat,

and just enjoy each other's company. I've even met her

brother and her father. I never thought I would have

feelings for someone who isn't Black because I have

always thought it was improper for Blacks to be in

relationships with someone who isn't Black. Now I find

myself trying to decide whether or not to stay away from

this girl or try to make something out of it. I just don't

feel like dealing with negative people who may try to

label me. My decision would be easier if there was

something wrong with her, but there isn't. She's fun to

talk to, fun to hang out with, really sexy, and just all

around cool people. As a strong Black man who loves

Black women and loves his race, what should I do?

-- Malik

Mister Responds...

If you feel like you have found true love with a white

female, then by all means, do whatever it takes to be

happy. Being in a relationship with a special person has

no racial boundaries. If you discover a connection with

a white, Asian, Hispanic or any other woman go and

build a great relationship.

Be prepared though. I don't have to tell you that many

people, both Black and white will frown upon your

relationship. You will get nasty stares, dirty looks,

mumbles, grumbles, and maybe a few racial slurs. We

are still living in a time where interracial dating in the

U.S. is considered taboo, and a lot of people don't mind

expressing their distaste for it. But that's their problem,

not yours. Never allow anyone to tell you that you're

wrong, or a "sell out" for dating a white female.

I always like to encourage the growth and development

of relationships between Black men and Black women.

But love is love, and when it finds you, rules and

traditions are tossed to the wayside. Now... if you're only

dating her because she's white, or because you have a

problem with Black women, then I have a problem with

you. Many Black men choose to date outside the race

when they struggle with self-identity, intra-racism, or

other emotional turmoil. If this is you, own up to it and

seriously consider speaking with a therapist. Talking

with someone may help identify any racial and self-

reflexive issues you may have.

This November, a lot is riding on elections

around the nation. We have a chance at

making history with a minority winning the

highly coveted presidential race. When I say

minority, I am talking about a Black man and a

White woman, Barack Obama and Hilary

Clinton.

While too many people think it is enough to

repeat the myriad voting slogans designed to

motivate through masses, I believe that real

discussion on the voting process, the right to

vote and the effectiveness of voting has to

occur.

For example, those who speak of “one man,

one vote,” refuse to explain the Electoral

College and how it can mitigate the popular

vote. Now, that has only happened once in

history (with Rutherford B. Hayes, who became

president based on the Electoral vote, even

though he lost the popular vote), but in a

climate of hanging, swinging and missing

children, anything could happen.

The Electoral College was designed as a buffer

between the people and the actual selection of

the president, because the racist, sexist and

classist founding fathers did not trust the

average citizen. It was also designed to give

smaller states more power and even the slate.

In all but two states, the winner of the most

votes from the people takes all of the Electoral

votes for the state. What this means is that a

presidential candidate can win 48% of a state‟s

votes, but not take away anything in terms of

the Electoral vote. In Maine and Nebraska,

Electoral votes go to the winner in each of

those states‟ congressional districts, saving

two for the statewide winner.

Until we provide more clarity on the voting

process as well as the candidates, we will

continue to provide little inspiration for the

masses to vote.

Please don‟t believe this is a Black thing,

because whites have problems turning out the

voters as well. And the party line contenders

don‟t make things any better. On the Democrat

side, every Black Democrat assumes that all

Blacks should be rolling with this party, failing

to discuss the difficulties that we really should

have with the party. For example, does anyone

want to talk about how the Democrats have a

habit of taking Blacks for granted, knowing that

our vote can almost always be counted on. And

if the best we can do by way of Democratic

presidential candidate is the Soul Curl

Brothers, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, why

would the party take us seriously? Now, Obama

has stepped in the ring, but I hear rhetoric from

people stating such things like:

I am not going to vote for him because he will

get assassinated.

I don‟t want to waste my vote, he can‟t possibly

win.

Bill Clinton was the best president so his wife

should be just as good.

Well, what you probably don‟t know is that

George Bush, Sr. put into motion many of the

things that Clinton is credited with… look it up

yourself.

On the Republican side, the Black

conservatives who adopt the party‟s

“American” values, fail to take the party to task

for it‟s elitist, classist, and racist overtones. I

agree with the notion that we need not be so

loyal to one party, but if the racism in the

Republican party can not be dampened and

the Blacks who join the party are mostly Uncle

Toms, then there is very little to inspire more of

us to join. The racist conservatives who

populate the Republican Party are all about big

business and rich, white men.

The bottom line is that politics can be

confusing and intimidating. So, what then, can

help to turn out the vote? To begin with,

inspiring candidates, such as Barack Obama in

Illinois, who has inspired Blacks and whites

across the nation with his speech at the

Democratic National Convention. Secondly, a

real voter education program, to explain the

entire voting process as well as the impact of

voting would do wonders for boosting voter

registration.

The truth about both parties may also help.

They would garner more respect if they

admitted that the most conservative of the

party care very little about people of color, or

people without money.

Am I a “bad” Black man for challenging the

Democratic Party? Well, the Republicans

“suck,” if I can borrow a fifth grade term, but

I‟m just about sick to my stomach of hearing

how Bill Clinton was the “first Black president.

Let us not forget that under the Clinton

administration, Black college enrollment began

to decline, while Black unemployment and

prison “enrollment” began to incline with the

privatization of prisons.

The problem is that during elections, voting is

made into an emotional issue, which works

temporarily, but fails to sustain after major

disappointments. For far too many, the goal is

to get people to vote for a specific candidate,

or a specific issue, as opposed to providing real

information so that the people can make

informed decisions. If the goal were to make

more people more politically astute, the voter

turnout would grow and could be sustained.

Let us remember how Bush got into office: A

great number of voters in Florida were

disenfranchised and none of their elected

officials stood up for them. Eventually,

Democrat Al Gore gave up the fight. Both

parties failed the people. Many Blacks and

other American citizens on the fringe of

enfranchisement watched and became grossly

disillusioned about the voting process.

I don‟t know about the apathy of poor whites,

but I do believe that more Blacks of all income

brackets would get out and vote, and continue

to vote if they had more compelling information

aside from party lines and the historical

importance of voting. Otherwise, the voting

process remains a joke to many.

There are real reasons to vote. Some hold to

the concept that every citizen has the

obligation to make their voice heard by voting.

Still, some believe that every vote really does

make a difference, and that if more Democrats

had voted in Florida, Bush would not have

stolen the election. There are other reasons as

well and more of them need to be louder than

the simplistic ones we hear every election. So,

if you are working for either party and trying to

get the masses out to vote, don‟t just send the

same old tired messages. Explain the actual

voting process. Tell the people about the real

issues and the real messages that should be

sent with each vote.

The beauty of the vote is that a group of

people, comprised of many groups of people,

can unite to send a message.

According to the FBI, South Carolina has the

honor of having the highest violent crime

rate in the nation. Meanwhile, North

Charleston was ranked by city-and-state

data publishing house Morgan Quitno Press

as the 7th most dangerous city in America.

Despite these statistics, Charleston Police

Chief Greg Mullen says Holy City police are

doing a good job of controlling crime here

haha… I wonder what the operational

definition is.

Charleston is always misunderstood and

misrepresented. First off, Charleston, South

Carolina is the oldest longest standing majority

Black city in America. It was also the number

one place for slavery, for hundreds of years.

With that being said, the struggle and street

life of Charleston, South Carolina is older and

more concrete and set in place than all those

other places like LA, Chicago, DC, and any

other city the media wants to use to compare

to Charleston.

If we wanted to follow those fools as gangsters

with all that gang-banging and foolishness they

got going on in those other cities, we would've

been doing that since the late 80’s early 90’s.

Our structure as far as beefing and the streets

are concerned has been in place for a long

time, and we are the most culturally unique

Black community in America. We have

absolutely no reason to follow what other

people on the other side of the country do. The

"gangs" we have existed long before Crips and

Bloods came about. We represent our

neighborhoods that we come from. Nothing

more nothing less. Its always been that way

and it will not change just because the rest of

the country is fake and want to follow and jump

on the gang bandwagon. Being a follower has

never been a trait of the Black community of

Charleston and will continue to not be part of

our character. You'll find that in inland South

Carolina like Columbia, places like that where

they have no identity. They're doomed to be

followers.

Bottom line if you're worried about "gangs"

forming in the city of Charleston you really

need to be worried about places like Goose

Creek, Summerville, Ladson, etc...Downtown

Charleston will remain real like we always

been for the past 327 years. It ain’t us yall

need to worry about. Our lifestyles are set in

place. Its those fake phony places further

inland that yall need to worry bout. Those kids

who lack identity from those areas, white and

Black.

These other parts of America where the gangs

spread out to, like Columbia and all these

other cities in America that hopped on the

gangbanging phase. They actually looked up

to these people as people that are hard to

them. They think that these folks are cool. We

feel them people are beneath us. We have no

reason to try to follow people we look at as

clowns.

Its funny how the people that run Charleston

always try to paint this innocent picture of

Charleston and the criminals in Charleston are

'petty thugs' and 'wannabe thugs' to Joe Riley

and on the news.

Anybody that knows a little bit of history knows

that Charleston, South Carolina has from its

inception in 1670, with the brutal Barbadians,

on down to the 1930’s when Al Capone was

terrorizing Chicago, Charleston’s murder rate

was 2 times that of Chicago and 4 times that of

New York. Up to 1982 when Greenberg got

elected and would have his officers admittedly

alter the crime stats year after year,

Charleston has always been a violent city.

West Side Neighborhood Association

President Arthur Lawrence says crime and

violence are definitely a problem in

Charleston's black communities, but they

are problems perpetuated by Blacks

themselves.

"Most of those committing the crime should

be in someone's trade school or some other

school," Lawrence says. "The data shows

most of those guys have dropped out of high

school. The public school system has failed

them and destined them for a life of crime

feeding one of the community's biggest

businesses, the prison industry."

Lawrence adds, "The real crime in

Charleston is a crime of failing to educate all

our children."

Communicating with your girlfriend is

necessary if you're planning on keeping those

smack sessions going. Unfortunately, your

styles of speaking and listening might not

always match up. Men tend to keep things

simple and say the bare minimum when forced

to express themselves, while women tend to

play interpreter, reading between the lines to

fill in the holes in what she's hearing. The

ultimate consequence?

Not only does she hear the words you actually

do say, but she also catalogs all of the things

you chose not to say, even if you didn't mean to

say them. You've probably been involved in

more than a few arguments that were a result

of something you said that was twisted into

something else and you were like what the hell

was that about… Here‟s lesson 13, straight

from the mouth of the mack.

"Your friend is really nice."

What she hears: "I'm interested in her, and I'm

wondering if she'd sleep with me."

Why she hears it: Men aren't known for random

compliments, so she might be jealous of the

attention you're suddenly giving to her friend.

What you should have said: If you are going to

compliment her female friends, be specific to

avoid looking like you're interested.

"I'm really busy."

What she hears: "I'm really too busy… For you."

Why she hears it: Women hear this and will

immediately notice that you still have time for

basketball with the guys, football on Sundays

and plenty of other non-vital activities, which

leads her to believe that your lack of time is

only related to her.

What you should have said: If you aren't saying

this before you break it off with her, you need

to make sure that your girlfriend isn't left

feeling like you don‟t have time for her. Make

dates with her in advance when you can, and

make sure you keep them.

"Who's that ni&&a?"

What she hears: "Have you ever had sex with

him?"

Why she hears it: Questions like this often feel

territorial; she may feel like you've already

made up your mind regardless of her actual

response, and she could object to your

possessiveness. Not every man she speaks to

has had sex with her, or wants to have sex with

her, regardless of what you might think.

What you should have said: Don't mention her

male friends first. Wait until she brings them up

and fills you in on the details. If you run into a

guy on the street with her and she doesn't

introduce you, feel free to question her then.

"I love spending time with you."

What she hears: "I'm not ready to say I love

you."

Why she hears it: Because you aren't assigning

your love to her in particular, but rather some-

thing about her or your relationship, she'll get

the impression that you are avoiding taking the

plunge. Try not to use the word "love" to

describe something in your relationship unless

it's followed by "I" and ends with "you."

What you should have said: Never tell her you

love her if you don't actually mean it, but don't

overuse this type of phrase or you'll come off

sounding insincere or commitment phobic.

"It got late, so I didn't call."

What she hears: "By the time I remembered..."

Why she hears it: Even though you think

mentioning that you didn't want to wake her by

calling late is a good thing, it just lets her know

that there was a huge expanse of time where

she was the last thing on your mind. She wants

to know that she's the first thing you think

about in the morning and the last thing you

think about at night before you drift off to

sleep. She may also interpret your missed call

as too much distraction on your end, at the end

of the night.

What you should have said: Very simply: you

should have called when you promised you

I read GeeChee One Magazine for the

informative articles. I don‟t even look

at the Beauty of the Month page.

There beauty can not compare to

yours… you are all I desire.

would. If you know you won't be able to, offer to

call in the morning instead. Early on in a

relationship, communication like this is

important, especially if you're out at Club

Fantasy with the boys all night. She'll want to

know that even on a night like that, she's on

your mind.

"I think Beyonce is gorgeous."

What she hears: "That is my standard..."

Why she hears it: Women often develop and

stick with a certain "type," and assume that

men are the same. If you find a thin sister

attractive, she's going to find it difficult to

believe you could have the same attraction for

a big booty one.

What you should have said: If you feel the need

to point it out, either compliment all types of

women that represent more than one type of

beauty or pick out ones that have similar

characteristics as your girlfriend. Saying you

like Lil Kim‟s eyes because they look a lot like

hers is sure to make her swoon and give you

free reign to sweat Lil Kim on TV or that Gucci

Mane DVD.

Society doesn't value the strong and silent type

of man like the good old days used to. Gone

are the gruff, monosyllabic heroes who only

spoke six words a week and instead

communicated with their eyes. Nowadays men

are expected to talk : talk about their day, talk

about their feelings, talk about the weather,

talk, talk, talk. Unfortunately, a lot of men

might have verbal communication figured out

when they're with their friends, but they are

completely lost when it comes to talking to, and

being correctly heard by, the women in their

lives.

"I'm just going out with my ni&&as."

What she hears: "We are going to see strippers

and I will likely be talking to the guys about our

relationship."

Why she hears it: Just as men like to believe

that when women get together it always ends

in underwear and pillow fights, women assume

that men-only nights will involve nudity and

talking sh*t about each other‟s girlfriends.

What you should have said: Even though it

feels like checking in, let her know where you're

really going and don't divulge any of the things

said on your night out; if you relay info about a

your friend‟s woman, she'll wonder what you

say about her when she's not around. Just be

honest with her, but don't feel like you're

checking in with your mama either.

"She's just a friend!"

What she hears: "She won't sleep with me…

Yet."

Why she hears it: A lot of women don't believe

that men and women can be platonic in a long-

term "friendship," and feel that no man would

strike up a new friendship with a woman unless

he is attracted to her.

What you should have said: If she really is just

a friend, introduce her to your girlfriend. This

will let your woman see that you've set

boundaries by announcing your relationship

status, and she'll feel better having met the

woman who spends time alone with her man.

"Damn you are looking good, tonight." (Or

another unsolicited compliment)

What she hears: "I feel guilty about something

and I am trying to distract you."

Why she hears it: After the initial stages of

dating, compliments tend to dwindle; out-of-the

-blue comments are going to have her won-

dering what you are trying to make up for. And

if you're not the kind of guy to throw around "I

love yous" and flattering comments, don't start

suddenly or she'll be wary of your intentions.

What you should have said: Either compliment

her consistently to avoid looking suspicious or

talk to her about the real problem you were

hoping to avoid because you know she'll find

out eventually anyway.

"Just phoning to say hi."

What she hears: "I'm checking up on you."

Why she hears it: For her entire life, she's

probably felt that getting a man to call is like

pulling teeth. So, for you to randomly call with-

out a specific intent will have her thinking that

a checkup is the only possible explanation.

What you should have said: Always have a

reason for calling. Even if it's something small

and pointless, having a point to the

conversation helps diffuse the checkup vibe,

even if that really was your intention.

1. Photos: Don't use photos that

make you look worse than you do

in real life. I recently had someone

use a photo where I couldn't tell if

it was a boy or a girl! By the way,

you CAN tell in real life, so it was

just a horrible photo choice. No

glamour shots, costume shots or

shots where you're playing a

character. Just use pictures where

you look like you and you look

great!

2. Voice: Use your own voice. No

accents, cute voices, etc. You're

auditioning and they want to hear

what you really sound like, so

make sure they get a chance to do

that!

Page 41: GeeChee One Magazine Volume 4 Issue 1

GeeChee One Magazine Volume IV Issue 1 www.geecheeone.com Page 19

3. Makeup: On the same

note, forget the jewelry and

makeup. They need to see

the real you as well as hear

the real you. Come clean,

neat and natural.

4. New Material: Don't try

out the great monologue or

commercial you just found at

an audition. These things

need to be worked first, and

that's just what class is for,

whether with us or someone

else. Make sure your piece is

very ready before you let an

agent hear it. You only get

one chance, so why are you

experimenting with it?

5. Length: Don't overstay

your welcome! We've had

people using monologues that

are 3, 4 and 5 minutes long!

Way too much! First of all, it

must be a phenomenal piece

to hold an agent's attention

that long. Second, less is

more. Cut that great piece to

1 minute or less and it will

actually improve it. Time your

audition material. If it goes

over a minute, it must be cut!

6. Clothing: Commercial

casual. No hats, dark glasses,

costumes, etc. They are here

to see you. Make sure they

can.

7. Typecast: Study your

typecast. Are you the snot,

the sweetheart, the goofball?

Dress towards that a little.

Just hint. That will make it

even easier for the agent to

imagine you in the role.

8. Slate: Have personality

and energy when you slate!

This is your chance to have

another character. Deliver

your slate with an energy

that's different from the one

in your audition piece. By the

way, boring/sleepy etc. are

not energies!

9. Variety: The most

common problem I'm

currently seeing in auditions

is what the agents call "one-

note." No variety. The

performers are doing their

entire commercial/monologue

with one emotion. That does

nothing to show that you can

act. It's just one note and you

can't play a song with one

note. So, look at that aspirin

commercial. Start in pain, and

end excited and happy…

proving that the medicine

works...and that you can act!

10. Stay Natural: No

choreographed hand motions,

no overacting. Just be real.

That's what they want. For

kids trained in the theatre,

the tendency is to be too big.

Relax and try to be as

realistic as you can.

The Return of the Body Snatchers, a mixtape mixed by the official DJ of G-Unit… DJ

Whoo Kid, is good enough to be the next G-unit album. G-Unit came correct on this

one, they put 100% behind this project and it pays off well. Yayo, 50, and Banks

bring some real heat on this mixtape, but Young buck is noticeably absent on this

one, though not officially off G-Unit, news of his release will be out real soon. Some

cats are saying that he is looking at signing back up with Cash Money. After he

said he banged Lil Wayne‟s woman, Trina…. yeah right, picture that.

G-Unit comes smooth on Like a Dog and gully on The Mechanic. My favorite track

is I’m Leaving… that track bangs hard with a nice bass sample that rides hard in

the truck, and the flow 50 spits is hot. Yayo trying to come correct… he brought a

lil heat on this one, though the hardest, as always was Banks.

Make Me Feel Good originally had Buck closing it out, but they 86ed that ni**a on

this mixtape. Why do „em like that… he the hottest out of all of them anyway, he

join the right team, it‟s a done deal!

DJ Yuneek is the first female DJ in South Carolina to drop a mixtape and it‟s titled

IN THE CLUB VOLUME 1. It is featuring tracks such as Hit the Dancefloor by DJ

Unk, Chop Me Up by Justin Timberlake, They Know by Shawty Low, and slows it

down with tracks from Ashanti, Mario, Keshia Cole, and more.

The unique thing about this mixtape is that it is professionally blended and mixed

unlike a lot of other mixtapes that are out here in the Lowcountry. There were no

voicetags from other DJ‟s, no website plugs like I heard on some other mixtapes,

no exclusive jacking from other mixtapes, and no evidence of limewiring, kazaaing,

or napstering. DJ Yuneek is a breath of fresh air to this stagnant mixtape game

here in the area. The last couple of mixtapes I copped were not mixed well and

not beat matched properly. The last one, which I received for free at Walmart by a

local rapper by the way, had songs with voice tags, website advertisers such as

AOL Radio, and was just track after track lined up… not blended at all. DJ Yuneek

mixes a unique mix. Download at www.datpiff.com for free…

Now you have to be on some real sh*t to be Smokin @ a Gas Station, that‟s just

crazy dangerous, like smoking crack or something… but that‟s the crazy thing, this

mixtape is crazy hot! I had to cop it because I was guaranteed my money back if it

was wack… well it wasn‟t wack, but after I burned a copy, I did get to swap for

another mixtape… I‟m just gully like that.

The mixtape is a product of Shod B, Pistol Pete and K. Ward. They are holding it

down in the Metro and shows the rest of South Carolina how to bring that heat on

this southeast mixtape circuit. Charlemagne the God hosts this one, so you know

its coming correct. He does not sign on to anything that is not official, unlike many

others who do so by how much monetary gain that they can pocket… they know

who they are.

I smoke to this mixtape, I smoke smoke smoke… and no, not at a gas station. I get

high, I don‟t get stupid.
