The Tribune weather station reported highs of 72º and 71º on Tuesday and Wednesday March 10 and 11. The highs dropped to 33º and 32º on Friday and Saturday with 0.26 inches of precipitation and 2.0 inches of snow reported on the Saturday morning reading and 0.04 inches of precipitation on Monday morning. For the first 16 days of March the station has received 0.03 inches of precipitation compared to a normal of 1.22 inches for the total month. For the year-to-date the station has received 2.07 inches of precipitation, which is 0.43 above the normal of 1.64 inches. The National Weather Service Precipitation maps for the past 7 days showed .25 to .50 inches in the central and northeast parts of the county, and .10 to .25 inches in the northwest, southwest and southeast sections of the county. The wheat in the county has broken dormancy and is greening up, but there have been no reports that it has jointed. The average soil temperatures for the past week in Greeley County were 49º on March 10, 50º on March 11, 12, and 23, 45º on March 14, 41º on March 15, and 40º on March 16. The average wind speed in Greeley County for the past week was 6.7 mph with highs of 25.4 mph on March 9 and 20.5 mph on March 15. Kansas Crop Progress And Condition MANHATTAN, Kan. March 16, 2020 - For the week ending March 15, 2020, there were 3.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 5 percent very short, 15 short, 62 adequate, and 18 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 7 percent very short, 14 short, 68 adequate, and 11 surplus. Field Crops Report: Winter wheat condition rated 5 percent very poor, 13 poor, 36 fair, 40 good, and 6 excellent. 2 inches of snow fell in Tribune on Friday night. With help from the moisture in February and March the wheat in Greeley County has turned green.
