Edgar Allen Poe was born in Boston on January 19, 1809. His Mother died on December 8 and his father died a few days later so he was adopted. He started school in 1814. Poe went
to boarding school in 1816. On February 14, 1826 he entered the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. In 1835 Poe applied for a job as a teacher, but didn’t get the job. On
May 16, 1836 Poe married his cousin Virginia. Poe died on October 7, 1849. No one really knows how he died, but people have a lot of theories about how he died.

009 The Black Cat
This story is one of Poe’s most gruesome takes. It may not be suitable for younger ages. This man is being overtaken by the
drink, with a few murders on the side. Walls, axes, it just might be the best horror story yet.
The BellsIn this poem Poe
manages to classify different type of bells and their different emotions. Some think that the bells are comparison to life:
newborns, merry life, sad life. He makes you hear bells and personifies them. Did you know it wasn’t published till after his death in 1849.
The Raven‘Nevermore?
This is the only word that the raven knows. Did he come from the gates of Hell? Or did he come to cheer him up after losing his dear Lenore?
Many think that The Raven was influenced by
Charles Dickens novel, Baraby Rudge. It also might have been from the two poems, “To Allegra Florence” and “ Isadore”, by Thomas Holly Chivers.

ONLINE PROGRAMS
ClassScape in an online classroom assessment system that facilitates learning by focusing on
curricular objectives. ClassScape enables teachers to monitor student performance on North Carolina
Standard Course of Study academic indicators. Teachers can build custom assessments or use tests
prepared by ClassScape.
APEX LEARNING
Beyond Books offers an interactive curriculum that is
engaging and comprehensive,
along with teacher-support materials, self-assessments,
and correlations to national and state
standards. Teachers can customize learning for students.
Our main use for this is for STAR Testing. In the fall and spring we Star Test our students to give us a starting place to know your
child as a reader.
