ouR MISSIoN

The Greater Beverly YMCA is committed to education and the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our Y provides all children, adults and families, regardless of income, with opportunities to develop a healthy spirit, mind and body.

ABouT uS

The Greater Beverly YMCA is proud to be a part of the YMCA of the North Shore, an association that, will provide more than $2.5 million in financial assistance for 9,500 children and adults who were unable to pay for Y memberships and programs in 2012.

Founded in 1892, the Y’s first home was on Cabot Street in Beverly. The building was contructed in 1910 and President Taft, a summer resident of the city, laid the first cornerstone. The organization connected young men in our community with the common goal of a healthy spirit, mind and body. In 1958, the Sterling family of Beverly donated land on Essex Street to the Y to run summer programs. By 1972, the growing organization was looking to expand beyond its Cabot Street space, and built a small facility on the Essex Street property. The location continued to transform over the years with several expansion projects including a swimming pool, fitness area and gymnasium. The building was offically renamed the Sterling YMCA in 1984 and in 2002 an additional expansion project completed the facility we use today. Now, with nearly 11,000 members, two child care centers, two teen centers, a competitive swim team, a gymnastics team and thousands of program participants, the Greater Beverly YMCA provides opportunities and programs that foster social growth and healthy development of spirit, mind and body.

GIVING

Social Responsibility: A Greater CauseAt the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Our Y has been listening and responding to our communities’ most critical needs for over 150 years. Whether developing skills or emotional well-being, welcoming and connecting diverse populations or advocating for healthier communities, the Y fosters the care and respect all people need and deserve. We truly have a greater cause!

Our Y cares for ALL in our community. It’s the socially responsible thing to do! One out of every three people in our Y needs our financial help to access essential Y programs and services. It takes the support of our entire community to help our neighbors in need.

A donation to the Y matters to the single mom who struggles to give her son a safe place to be after school. And it matters to your neighbor who lost her job in this uncertain economy as she tries to afford a membership that gives her and the kids a place to de-stress and bond.

Your gift matters to the 1,600 people in our Y who need our help. The Y’s annual campaign, Y FOR ALL, is well underway. We hope you’ll consider supporting your neighbors in need with a gift. You may make an online donation by visiting www.northshoreymca.org.

Together we can build stronger, more inclusive communities, provide support for families and promote positive change.

About the YMCA of the North Shore Annual Gala Event:The corporate sponsors, donors and attendees of the YMCA of the North Shore’s Annual Gala made it possible for the Y to raise over $300,000 in 2011, including more than $115,000 in “Y camperships.” 100% of the funds raised at the Y Gala directly benefits deserving children and families with YMCA of the North Shore’s Financial Assistance Fund. In 2012, our Y will give away more than $2.5 million in financial aid for membership, program, childcare, camp and all YMCA services to 9,500 deserving kids, adults and families. That is one (1) out of every five (5) people in our Y. We are able to say yes to all those in need, but not without the generous support of our friends.
