GBT SHINE™ Legacy ProjectsAn Outcome of The 702 Sun International CEO SleepOut™ 2015

Dear friends and partners,

11th and 12th Quarterly Report | April to June and July to September 2018 | Issued: September 2018

The primary focus for this report is the Legacy Project Buildings as Foundations of Family Life, as aligned to the SHINE™ pillar HOME. It outlines the developments during

the 11th and 12th quarters including information as per the November 2018 report. This ‘double period’ report addresses the developments and feedback over the last six months. Activities during this period have entailed planning, structural checks and solving challenges regarding the heritage building issues, re-planning and adjustment of drawings based on engineering feedback, quantity surveyor reports – and then finally identifying and allocating the estimated demolition and build cost proportions against the remaining portion of The 702 Sun International CEO SleepOut™ 2015 funding.

The next and final quarterly report – the 13th since the inaugural The 702 Sun International CEO SleepOut™ 2015 – is earmarked for March 2019. This is the estimated date for the completion of the first phase build against the remaining R2.3 million-portion of The 702 Sun International CEO SleepOut™ 2015 allocation.

Girls and Boys Town South Africa will allocate additional funds to complete the second phase build of the youth residential building.

Buildings as Foundations of Family Life,

a two-year project with a R1 million allocation, completed in September 2017.

a project for completion by end 2018/February

This is a very exciting and much-awaited project as our century-old building has not seen a significant renovation in all this time. As the total build cost will

amount to an excess of R5 million, the remaining The 702 Sun International CEO SleepOut™ 2015 allocation of R2.3m will be allocated towards the first phase of the build.

Girls and Boys Town South Africa will self-fund the remaining renovations, allowing us to entirely upgrade and complete the youth accommodation building. We are all looking forward to modernising and creating a sense of homeliness, belonging, added comfort and pride within this residence.

During this April to September 2018 quarters (periods 11 and 12 of the GBT Legacy Project), the priority was to flesh out in further detail the initial concept drawings in order to cost and thus have a full picture of the Magaliesburg renovations resulting from the R2.3 million funding from The 702 Sun International CEO SleepOut™ 2015. This exercise was completed, with the plan (see next page) suggesting that this phase 1 of the build should include: completion of all demolitions; laying of the ‘chill room’ foundations, surface bed, structure and roof; completing of internal brickwork on all floors and drywall partitions in the loft area; laying of electrical first fix conduits, wiring and DB boards; plumbing first fix piping for water and waste including geysers; internal plastering to brickwork; and inclusive of all associated costs.

Tailor-made programmes that aim to enable youth to develop a sense of self-worth and unique value.

The safety of a home and family environment and development of the skills to belong to a family.

Enabling youth to acquire the courage and skills to cope as individuals in the real world.

Equipping our youth to care for themselves and developing the sensitivity to care for others.

Developing the will and skill to aquire knowledge and qualifications to be self-reliant and productive members of society.

CEO SLEEPOUT REPORT

KEY OF STRUCTURE

The focus during the 12th quarter (July to September 2018) has involved architectural preparation of more detailed drawings, development of the design and addition of specifications, followed by formal Girls and Boys Town approval of the drawings.

Tasks that will follow and culminate in the next and final March 2019 report will include:

• The quantity surveyor’s completion of the full Bill of Quantities in time for the October 2018 tender process. • The identification and appointment of a project overseer, crucial to the success of the project as it goes to site, will also be finalised in time for the start of the renovation in Novem-ber 2018. Some of the selection criteria applied will be the

applicants involvement with previous projects; positive consultant and employer reference checks; appropriate work experience and skill set, mainly in terms of management and drafting capabilities; and positive outcome information on project history and current/future projects; access to a draughtsperson or ability to complete drafting activities internally will be advantageous.

• Temporary renovations and preparations to alternative areas to accommodate youth and then the reallocation of youth to these temporary residences on campus by mid to end October 2018.

• The start of the phase 1 of the build funded by The 702 Sun International CEO SleepOut™ 2015 allocation in November 2018.
