The by-laws state that the historian is “responsible for taking photographs and maintaining the Club scrapbook and photo album.” Since these responsibilities were defined in 1965, there have been improvements in technology. At present, the historical report is part of the Gazette and is presented on-line to the members. With the ability to digitally record videos, movies are another form of documenting the club activities. This change to the by-laws expands the role of the historian to include filmmaking.

"Wendell has been an awesome partner to me as I transition into what I consider to be the greatest job on the planet," said Dr. Sean Preston, President and CEO of the NCM. "He was always standing by to offer words of wisdom and encouragement, providing a historical perspective on various topics, and above all else, reminding me that PEOPLE, not necessarily cars, make up the National Corvette Museum. This is evident by the 37,000 members, the 250,000 annual Museum visitors and the absolutely amazing staff. We have Wendell to thank for this."
Wendell's official date of retirement was Friday, January 3, 2020 but says he and his family plan to regularly visit the Museum. Wendell will join the Corvette Hall of Fame as part of the Museum's 26th Anniversary Celebration September 3 - 5, 2020.
