4 Club ChallengeTraditionally the 4 Club Challenge Event requires careful tactics and consideration about which 4 clubs to choose for the round. The decision involves some pre-round practice and if you were lucky enough to have participated in the past you would be wiser with knowing which selection to make.

Our Gross winners for this year were Tom Baer with a score of 75 and Kris Lanman with a score of 103, and our Net winners for this year were John Pelfrey with a score of 70 and Suki Shelton with a score of 82.

Darn Wind…The wind for a tennis player can be a very daunting idea. It can make a good player bad or even a bad player good. The best way to look at it is that the wind is an equalizer. With the wind being somewhat of a common occurrence, depending on where you live, you really need to know how to play in it.

This may sound silly, but the first thing you need to know about playing in the wind is actually which way it is blowing. The direction of the wind determines the style of player that you need to be while on that specific side.

When the wind is in your face you need to be more aggressive with your hitting, but not too much with your movement. By doing this, with the wind in your face you first allow yourself to hit the ball harder, keeping more balls in, but you can also use it to show off your touch with a drop shot. The wind will act as a wall pushing the ball down and into the ground.

When the wind is on your back, you need to slice more, but all the while attacking with forward movement. The wind makes it tough for your opponents to pass you and almost even tougher to lob.

If you start off with these basic ideas of how to play in the wind, then you won’t find yourself saying… that “darn wind.”
