The Gateshead Older People’s Assembly

In 1999 a group of older people got together to

form an organisation to discuss areas of concern

effecting older people in Gateshead.

With lots of hard work they were able to influence

positive change in service provision and ensure

proper consultation with older people was

achieved.

Due to their success they were deemed the best

organisation to become an Assembly for Older

People.

What’s Next ?

The next few years will be an exciting time for us

all. We are looking at expanding The Assembly so

that we reach every area within our borough.

How ?

With your help we will look at the real issues that

matter to you and your local community and speak

to our partners from across all sectors with in

Gateshead and at a regional level.

Empowering Older People We see your voice as a powerful tool to enable

your opinions to be heard and acted upon.

Your voice has become and will continue to be

recognised as the main force to shape policy and

service provision towards our older population.

Through your Assembly we see the issues that are

connected with older people at the forefront of

strategic thinking with every agency in Gateshead
