Chili Volunteer Ambulance Service The Chili Ambulance has been serving the Town of Chili for just over 60 years. In 2006, theAmbulance Service split from the fire department forming the Chili Volunteer AmbulanceService (CVAS). The split from the fire department was a business decision and necessaryfor several reasons. Changes being made to the Medicare and Medicaid reimbursementsystems left many of our senior citizens and those on fixed incomes with extremely highadvanced life support bills. Although remaining a volunteer service, the new organizationwas able to start billing insurance companies for emergency medical services directly. Bydoing this, it greatly reduced the out-of-pocket costs for seniors, as well as, lower theambulance tax rate by nearly 30%.

The Chili Volunteer Ambulance base is located at 3320 Chili Avenue. They currently have48 members answering over 2,000 calls each year in a district that covers approximately42 square miles. Because our volunteers have other jobs, the Chili Volunteer Ambulance(through contract) employees have several career staff personnel to fill shifts as needed.CVAS shares an excellent relationship with the Gates Volunteer Ambulance who providesCVAS along with their own Paramedic services 24/7 along with back up basic l ife supportwhen called upon.

As CVAS continues to move forward, their goal has been and continues to be to providequality emergency medical services to residents and those spending a por tion of their day

in the Town of Chili. The volunteers and career staff work very hard every day to deliver adedicated and compassionate service to those who need it. Working together, we all hopeto make a difference. For more information and non-emergencies, please call 585-889-8614 or visit ww w.chiliambulance.org.

Chili Fire DepartmentThe Chili Fire Department has been proudly staffed by volunteers since 1931 and currentlyoperates with just over 185 volunteers and 18 pieces of apparatus. The Chili Fire Departmentprides itself on safely and efficiently serving the community of nearly 30,000 and welcomesarea residents to become new members for a rewarding experience. Chief Jason Elliott.

Gates is a dynamic town with an interesting past and a bright future. The town wasincorporated in 1813 and was the last remnants of Northampton founded 1797 in O ntarioCounty. The community has been at the center of history for this area and the roots ofRochester can be directly traced to this town. Rochesterville was a village in Gates untilNathaniel T. Rochester presented the application of incorporation to the legislature whichwas approved 1817, by 1822 the name was legally changed to Rochester.

Gates is the geographic center of Monroe County and has easy access to expressways in allparts of town. Population has grown since the sesquicentennial from 15,133 residents toover 28,000 residents today. There are two outstanding school districts including Gates-Chili for most of the town and Spencerport in portions of western Gates.

Farming has ended in town since the sesquicentennial but the current mix of industrial, commercial and residential properties is the proper balance to hold taxes stable whilekeeping a hometown feel.
