As the Liturgical Year draws to a close, the readings have a dark, somewhat frightening tenor about them.

But Jesus offers hope, even amid predictions of “...powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place” and yes, persecution too. This Gospel reminds us to pray for victims of natural disasters as well as for those Christians who are being persecuted

for their faith. The growing secularization of our culture demands that people of faith be ready to give testimony to the saving message of Jesus Christ. Jesus

assures us, “I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to

resist or refute.” Trust Jesus--He will give you the wisdom to say what needs to be said.

November 15th - Update on Gate of Heaven Parking Lot

Over the summer months the parish and archdiocese have actively sought

bids to complete the parking lot construction. We have worked to get better pricing on the excavation and

paving so that we can complete the project this fall. WE NEED YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT to finish the

project. We were hoping this work would begin this fall - but due to many constraints we may have to

wait until March to begin the work. We hope that our Grand Annual Collection this year will help with the rising cost of the paving and landscaping of our new parking lot. Thank you for your patience and

support. We know that the property will look beautiful when the construction is complete! Our

goal for the Gate of Heaven Grand Annual is $100,000. If all of our Parishioners participated in

the Grand Annual - we would be able to move forward with this project. The Archdiocese will not allow us to conclude this project until we have all

the financing in place.

School News South Boston Catholic Academy students had another busy

week of learning and growing. While there was no school on Monday, several students joined in for our Veteran’s Day

“Gratitude Camp” where students worked on projects that recognized the work of Veterans, made fall crafts, and went to the park to collect leaves. On Thursday, our 2nd graders

had their 1st Penance. South Boston Catholic Academy welcome prospective families

this week at our Fall Open House. Visitors were welcomed and given a chance to see our school community in action. Classrooms enjoyed sharing their robust, standards aligned curriculum with visitors and we were proud to share all of

our co-curricular activities that enhance our academic program, including STEM, Art, Music, Spanish, Gym, Health, and Library. Currently all of our Early Childhood program is on a waitlist for the 19/20 School Year. Seats for the 20/21

THE PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL (PPC) Purpose: to assist the Pastor in his leadership role of planning, organizing, initiating, promoting, coordinating, and reviewing the evangelization, worship, faith formation, and service activities within the Parish. Objectives: To assess adequately the needs of the whole Parish and its members. To develop and implement a pastoral plan which will promote the common good of the parish. Gate of Heaven Parish Memorial Paver Order Form

The new parking lot and plaza area that will be created in place of the former Gate of Heaven School building will feature a beau-tiful plaza with a marble statue of Our Lord with two children. Surrounding the statue in the plaza area and in the walkway along the church pavers will be installed. Similar to the pavers surrounding the parking area behind the church and the Holy Family statue – we will install memorial pavers with inscriptions in the new parking plaza area. These pavers are larger and will provide more space for lettering to be inscribed on each paver. Each paver will cost $250 to cover the cost of the paver, inscription and installation. There will be three lines of engraved text with 15 characters per line (including spaces). To order a paver please complete this information sheet and return it to the Parish Office or in the collection basket in an envelope clearly marked: “Gate of Heaven Memorial Pavers.” Pavers will be installed next Spring, 2020.
