Gnome Bosnian Pine has dark green foliage. The large needles remaindark green throughout the winter. Neither the flowers nor the fruit areornamentally significant. The rough brown bark and silver branches addan interesting dimension to the landscape.

Landscape Attributes

Gnome Bosnian Pine is a dense multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with a shapely oval form. Its relativelyfine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage.

This is a relatively low maintenance shrub. When pruning is necessary, it is recommended to only trimback the new growth of the current season, other than to remove any dieback. It has no significantnegative characteristics.

Planting & Growing

Gnome Bosnian Pine will grow to be about 8 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 5 feet. It tends to fill outright to the ground and therefore doesn't necessarily require facer plants in front, and is suitable forplanting under power lines. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to livefor 60 years or more.

This shrub should only be grown in full sunlight. It prefers dry to average moisture levels with verywell-drained soil, and will often die in standing water. It is considered to be drought-tolerant, and thusmakes an ideal choice for xeriscaping or the moisture-conserving landscape. It is not particular as to soiltype, but has a definite preference for acidic soils, and is able to handle environmental salt. It is highlytolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. This is a selected variety of aspecies not originally from North America.
