are one month in to 2020? Hopefully everyone’sNew Year’s resolutions are going strong.

I hope everyone had the chance to meet ourtwo new faces at the Concierge Desk, CariRamos and Abrianna Thompson. They bothbring amazing energy and light to Garden ofPalms. If you haven’t had a chance to say hellomake sure to do so!

February hosts the special holiday of TuB’shevat. it is also known as “New Year for theTrees”. Tu B’shevat has developed into anecological holiday that reminds us of ourconnection to the earth and to our role ascaretakers of the environment. We are alllooking for ways to become moreenvironmentally aware and make some changesto better the earth we live on. What suggestionsdo you have? I would love to hear!

across the globe, and manycountries have uniqueholiday traditions.

Germany. Heart-shapedgingerbread cookies withromantic messages written inicing are popular valentine giftsamong German couples.

South Korea. Women givechocolate to men on Valentine’sDay, then the gesture is returnedon White Day, March 14, whenmen are the gift-givers.

Mexico. The holiday isknown as the Day of Love andFriendship in this country,where friends as well asromantic partners gift each othercandy, flowers, balloons andstuffed animals.

South Africa. The expression“wear your heart on your sleeve”is fitting for South Africanwomen, who pin the name oftheir love interest to theirshirtsleeve for the day.

Peru. Orchids are the flowerof choice for valentines here,since they are native to thisSouth American nation.

Philippines. Hundreds ofcouples in this Asian countrytie the knot in mass weddingceremonies on Feb. 14.

The Appeal of AlpacasWith their soft fleece and

quirky, humanlike facialexpressions, alpacas arecharming animals, withpersonalities that can putpeople at ease.

Domesticated over6,000 years ago by the Andeanpeople of South America,alpacas are in the same family ascamels and llamas. They aremostly raised for their luxuriousfleece, which is often comparedto cashmere, and said to befiner, softer and warmer thansheep’s wool.

In recent years, alpacas havebecome more familiar astherapy animals, making visitsto schools, retirementcommunities, hospitals andrehabilitation centers. Theircalm, curious and friendlynature make them ideal for pettherapy, and many children andadults who interact with themcan’t help but smile and laugh attheir amusing antics. Stroking analpaca’s soft fleece providessensory benefits, and its gentle,social demeanor helps peoplefeel relaxed.

As a member of severaldifferent choral groups, the basssinger contributed his boomingvocals to countless radioprograms, TV specials and moviesoundtracks, but he isbest-known for performing theclassic holiday song “You’re aMean One, Mr. Grinch” andproviding Frosted Flakes cerealmascot Tony the Tiger’ssignature growl “They’regr-r-reat!” in TV commercials.

Everything’s Roses“Stop and smell the roses”

may be healthy advice in moreways than one. The flower’sdelicate scent can produce arelaxing effect. Rose extracts,often used in beauty products,have anti-inflammatoryproperties that help soothe dry,irritated skin. And Germanresearchers found that sleeperswho were exposed to the smellof roses experienced pleasantdreams.
