GARDEN DESIGN PROPOSAL

DATE: 22 Aug 2006

FOR: Garden design

TO: Swifty McAdam 5044 Maple Street. Ottawa, Ontario K1Z 1H9

FROM: Peter Vasdi 16 Huntwood Court Ottawa, Ontario K1S 2H9

SUMMARY:

Style: Simple and very low maintenance.

Objective for season: Improve look of front yard to match those of neighbors. Rejuvenate the lawn. In back, plant taller bushes and trees that can survive in current conditions (shade and dog) that will provide privacy to homeowner when inside house and on back decks.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS:

In the back, trim away some of the large branches in whole or in part from the tree canopy to allow more sun into the back and improve the health of the plants already there and to be planted. Fertilize all beds and work soil (peat moss and mushroom compost). Clean out and trim back most bushes and plants. On the deck, add large planters, some with high bushes (cedars, etc.) for privacy and other smaller planters with flowers for color.

Add variety and color to back yard to give it more depth: select plants for variegated leaf colors (golden, white, light/dark green, bronze, burgundy). Select plants that are fragrant and that provide seeds and fruit for birds.

The season has already started: the sooner the design is implemented, the more quickly the garden will be completed. For 2006, concentrate on trees, bushes, and perennials, and on building the boxes. Complete the decorative phase in 2007.

NOTE: This is a simple design document, and is intended as a starting point only. It provides a site plan and a verbal description of suggested plantings and actions. Frequently, final decisions, based on what is available and their physical presence, and cost, are made at the time the design is being implemented.
