hri Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on October 2, 1901 at Mughalsarai, a small railway town seven miles from

Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. His father was a school teacher who died when Lal Bahadur Shastri was only a year and half old. His mother, still in her twenties, took her three children to her father’s house and settled down there.Lal Bahadur’s small town schooling was not remarkable in any way but he had a happy enough childhood despite the poverty that dogged him.He was sent to live with an uncle in Varanasi so that he could go to high school. Nanhe, or ‘little one’ as he was called at home, walked many miles to school without shoes, even when the streets burned in the summer’s heat.As he grew up, Lal Bahadur Shastri became more and more interested in the country’s struggle for freedom from foreign yoke. He was greatly impressed by Mahatma Gandhi’s denunciation of Indian Princes for their support of British rule in India. Lal Bahadur Sashtri was only eleven at the time, but the process that was end day to catapult him to the national stage had already begun in his mind.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was sixteen when Gandhiji called upon his countrymen to join the Non-Cooperation Move-ment. He decided at once to give up his studies in response to the Mahatma’s call. e decision shattered his mother’s hopes. e family could not dissuade him from what they thought was a disastrous course of action. But Lal Bahadur had made up his mind. All those who were close to him knew that he would never change his mind once it was made up, for behind his so exterior was the rmness of a rock.Lal Bahadur Shastri joined the Kashi Vidya Peeth in Varanasi, one of the many national institutions set up in deance of the British rule. ere, he came under the inuence of the greatest intellectuals, and nationalists of the country. ‘Shastri’ was the bachelor’s degree awarded to him by the Vidya Peeth but has stuck in the minds of the people as part of his name.In 1927, he got married. His wife, Lalita Devi, came from Mirzapur, near his home town. e wedding was traditional in all senses but one. A spinning wheel and a few yards of handspun cloth was all the dowry. e

bridegroom would accept nothing more.In 1930, Mahatma Gandhi marched to the sea beach at Dandi and broke the imperial salt law. e symbolic gesture set the whole country ablaze. Lal Bahadur Shastri threw himself into the struggle for freedom with feverish energy. He led many deant campaigns and spent a total of seven years in British jails. It was in the re of this struggle that his steel was tempered and he grew into maturity.

Intas Pharmceuticals Ltd, Ahmed-abad, Drs7 Maiya Multispecialty Hospital, I block, Jayanagar, had on 27th September, 2015, organized a

When the Congress came to power aer Independence, the sterling worth of the apparently meek and unassuming Lal Bahadur Shastri had already been recognised by the leader of the national struggle. When the Congress Government was formed in 1946, this ‘little dynamo of a man’ was called upon to play a constructive role in the governance of the country. He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in his home State of Uttar Pradesh and soon rose to the position of Home Minister. His capacity for hard work and his eciency became a byeword in Uttar Pradesh. He moved to New Delhi in 1951 and held several portfolios in the Union Cabinet – Minister for Railways; Minister for Transport and Communications; Minister for Commerce and Industry; Home Minister; and during Nehru’s illness Minister without portfolio. He was growing in stature constantly. He resigned his post as Minister for Railways because he felt responsible for a railway accident in which many lives were lost. e unprecedented gesture was greatly appreciated by Parliament and the country. e then Prime Minister, Pt. Nehru, speaking in Parliament on the incident,

extolled Lal Bahadur Shastri’s integrity and high ideals. He said he was accepting the resignation because it would set an example in constitutional propriety and not because Lal Bahadur Shastri was in any way responsible for what had happened. Replying to the long debate on the Railway accident, Lal Bahadur Shastri said; “Perhaps due to my being small in size and so of tongue, people are apt to believe that I am not able to be very rm. ough not physically strong, I think I am internally not so weak.” e landslide successes of the Party in the General Elections of 1952, 1957 and 1962 were in a very large measure the result of his complete identication with the cause and his organisational genius.More than thirty years of dedicated service were behind Lal Bahadur Shastri. In the course of this period, he came to be known as a man of great integrity and competence. Humble, tolerant, with great inner strength and resoluteness, he was a man of the people who understood their language. He was also a man of vision who led the country towards progress.

HSR Pinning Hopes on Corprator Gurumurthy Reddy

Pathetic state of affairs at HSR

t was BJP all over again winning the BBMP elections with 100 seats to its credit, but yet, failed to form the council. Political

games and twists ensured that despite winning so many seats out o 198, the BJP could not take the power in its hands. at is precisely politics. is is the city’s scenario for us. HSR, ward no. 174 was bagged again by the BJP and its candidate won against his nearest Congress rival by a margin not to be contended. Mr. Gurumurthy Reddy is the newly elected corporator of HSR. Garden City Plus a couple of issues back the felicitation ceremony organized by the Residents Welfare Association Sector – 2, soon aer he was elected. He had promised to fulll all the election objectives that were projected during the election campaign. He has started work. Last Monday, the BBMP was formed with all the elected corporators meeting for the rst time at oce. e Worshipful Mayor, Mr. Manjunatha Reddy, of Congress has already initiated work and has taken Ramal-inga Reddy along with him on inspec-tions. is has given a ray of hope that work shall start at the earliest and the projects be implemented. HSR’s woes are aplenty. All the seven associations of the respective sectors are active and are now pressing for the

pending works to be taken up and completed. Garden City Plus contacted Gurumurthy Reddy for his views and he was forthright on his priorities so far as his ward is concerned. It is only a matter of time that the issues and woes of the residents will be addressed. It is also a known fact that his predecessor also of BJP, Mrs. Latha Narasimha Murhty, had indeed initiated plenty of projects and also ensured that the budget allocation was done on priority basis on the need of urgency of issues. In fact, there are a few which are now being imple-mented as the budget for the current year has still not been placed. But, all said and done, the ward has to

undergo a drastic change and carry on with the pending proposals for the upli of the area to emerge as a model ward. If this has to be achieved, then a lot depends on Gurumurthy Reddy’s performance. Gurumurhty Reddy, born in the year 1960, is a 55 year old seasoned politician, with his initial schooling in Agara (HSR, Sec-1) and his Pre-University at VV Puram College. Since the 1980s, he has been actively involved in politics serving people in dierent areas as the need demanded and has been always among the public in service to the community. He said that it is a passion for him to be among people and do the best for their welfare and society till his last breath.

He was a MLA candidate in 1989 at Uttarahalli constituency, later, he became CMC President, Bommana-halli till 2001, and he was a MLC candidate in the year 2001, which he lost by a meager margin of just 117 votes, he added. As a councilor, he was responsible in initiating works on schools, hospitals and sanitary works in around 32 wards. Given these credentials, it is now clear that he would mean business in working towards the betterment of the ward and would provide clean, clear gover-nance with transparency in all the spending so that the people are not le in the dark of what is happening and what is not. He says “it is a challenge for me to

ght for the development of our ward and ensure all things are done on time with no hiccups. I will start with providing a toilet for women in a park identied in sector 1, 24th main, initially and then move on from there as this is deemed to be the most wanted facility which can be provided with immediate eect. Work has started’. Prioritising issues, he added that 5 more public toilets shall be provided and water problem will be resolved, the street light will have to be looked into and sanitary woes have to be addressed and the conditions of roads have to be made long lasting. He has vowed openly before the people to take up the jobs on hand and eectively nish it wasting no time. So much so, it is now very much on his hands to deliver or destroy. e residents of HSR are pinning their hopes on the Gurumurthy Reddy to deliver. Garden City Plus has already stocked in its les plenty of issues which will be taken one aer the other in its issues subsequently. e entire team of Garden City Plus along with the citizens’ groups is there with you to support in which way you want us to, Mr. Gurumurthy Reddy.A Hearty Welcome to our incumbent Corporator! Let us also contribute towards achiev-ing this as residents, which is our responsibility.

he 27th main road in HSR is proclaimed to be the MG Road of the entire layout. But, to the dismay, the road has succumbed to step motherly treatment being uncared for. e photograph captured is evidence enough to substantiate this. Speed breakers are provided on placid roads in order to

control over speeding, thereby avoid accidents. But, in this case, it seems that the presence of the speed breaker itself could be a root cause to several accidents. Why is

the police not bothered to take action? e civic authorities have to be made to pull up their socks immediately, lest the spot becomes more vulnerable to problems to motor-ists. ere is a huge crater in the middle of the hump and also the deteriorating condi-tion of one stretch of the speed breaker is just like a stair case, which could damage the vehicles too. e irony is that the particular speed breaker is near the police station. Garden City Plus has in its possession such appalling civic related problems and issues to be addressed on top priority. In the coming weeks, GCP shall highlight these issues and publish the response from the authorities concerned for the respective RWAs to follow up for remedial measure to be taken.

here are plenty of caterers in and around HSR layout. But, catering at your door

step with the traditional touch in totality is something which is yet to be experienced. Here is one such restaurant which was opened a month ago which caters to the need of those non vegetarian eaters with the tinge of homemade food - Chinnaswamy Naidu Biriyani (Hotel), situated at HSR, sector 1 doing the distance up to Koramangala, BTM, Marathalli and Sarjapur areas. Unfortunately, there are no counter sales one can just walk in to have his sumptuous meal and leave. Orders are taken and home delivered only. Such is the assurance and modus operandi that the minutest details are looked into carefully to ensure that it gives the homemade eect fully to the satisfaction of the customers. A Naidu family from Tamil Nadu, hailing from Dindigul and based in Hosur since years immersed in hotel business there have knocked the doors of Bengaluru with a unique concept of making everything at home; starting from making atta,

spices and all other related necessary masala items which are the ingredi-ents. Mr. Suresh Babu Naidu is the brain behind this venture, which has caught the attention of many in such a short span of time. He is ably being supported by Ms. S Manjula and Ms. Uma Kartik. DSuresh Babu is in the hotel business since20 years. It starts from the grinding part, which is ground by hand on stones, mixer grinders are not used at all. Country chicken biriyani is popular with several other delicious Tamil Nadu style preparations and varieties which will for twinge the taste buds are

A Place to Cool your Mood and Angerserved. Baking soda is avoided completely and a few spices are imported from Malaysia and garlic of course from Dindigul only. A surprise item is served on a daily basis which will be let known only at the time of placing the order online. One item which catches the eye is Paanai Pagu air (Curd in an earthen pot with a sweet twist). Similarly, the mutton and chicken varieties are so delight-ful, that one wonder which one to

order and which not to and gives one a feeling that something is amiss by placing an order of many more items. Varieties on shes are served too. is unit is planning to start a retail hotel outlet very soon, may be in a month’s time in HSR, near BDA, to cater to much larger range of custom-ers as there are reports pouring in to start one soon. To have that homely eect, one can denitely, blind folded order for non-veg food here at the Chinnaswamy’s. It only delivers; not only at home but also quality with the homely eect. ne of the areas in the city which attracts people from other areas to eat , enjoy or shop, it is

denitely HSR Layout. Melting Melodies, an Ice Cream Parlour and Chocolates joint has just done that. It

has ensured to attract customers from its neighbouring areas like Begur, Mangammanapalya, Bommanahalli and upto Electronics City. is goes to prove that it is well connected to these places, being situated on the 9th main road, HSR 7th sector. It also is served and catered well by its proprietor Mr. K Lokesh, who is running this

business since 4 years. He had his struggle for existence when he started te venture but he has now stabilized and very happy of the response and the patronage of the local HSR residents. Now since two years he says that outsiders from areas mentioned

above have started visiting his outlet and business has taken o which has made him a contented man. It is a family business supported by his wife and son and he has also spread his wings to a few areas on franchise. e specialties of Melting Melodies are Pastries and Ice Cakes along with the customary ice creams.

O

ust when HSR Layout started developing in the year 2003, a new outlet for the connoisseurs opened in Parangipalya which

catered to the varied taste buds, but rich in taste. is era was a period when ne dine was the popular eat-out. Mustard Food court, an outlet that suited one and all shone with its varieties to oer at that time with emphasis on quality at aordable rates. e hotel outlet shied its place of operation to a more spacious accommodation, where it is currently operating in the year 2006, in order to serve better. ere were only 3 outlets then serving North Indian food. Of them, only Mustard Food Court survived. Mustard Food Court, on 18th main road, Sector 3, can take pride in claiming to have the good old custom-ers of those initial days of its opening. e proprietor of Mustard Food Court, Mr. Saurabh Sinha says, school going children of those days are now married and still continue to patron-ize his hotel with their kids. He is elated of this fact and in addition to this, he is more satised because the elderly and senior citizens honor him by their frequent visits. is outlet is more popular due to the fact that it

J

caters to more of casual dine than ne dine serving North Indian dishes along with Indian and Continental. So he gets the utmost satisfaction of the patronage of the residents of HSR, who give the required llip and the impetus for him to give the best always to his esteemed customers. He added that every passing year, the hotel’s growth rate is more than 15 per cent which he credits to his valuable customers. ere is another positive that he is happy about – customers ow from Bommanahalli, Silk Board area, BTM, Bellandur, Sun City and other IT professionals. is, he says, is a feather in the cap.

Mustard Food Court – a Hotel with a Difference

During the luncheon peak hours, it is mostly the working class that enjoys the casual dine, while it is the family crowd during evenings which lls the 42-seater hotel to capacity. Home delivery orders are much sought aer, what with the large number of bachelors and spinsters living in HSR layout. e specialties include the much sought aer Chicken Biriyani, closely followed by chicken 65, Paneer Kolha-puri and green peas palav. e rates are reasonable – Vegetarian food costs Rs. 110 and Non-veg items 120 and a veg ali is Rs. 70/-. When Garden City Plus went to the

hotel to have a rsthand account of the menu served and draw an opinion, it was found that chicken biriyani was undoubtedly the best of the lot that was served. is is so because the oil content and the spice were all found to be at the desired level; neither exceeding nor on the lower side. But, there was a surprise element in the menu, which was Organo Chicken (a mixture of Indian and Continental) – that was found to be a delightful experience by itself. e dish happens to be introduced by Mustard Food Court as claimed by Mr. Saurabh. e popularity of the dish has prompted him to identify a land near Krishnagiri highway and farming has been started on a sprawl-

ing 4.5 acre space completely abreast with organic plantations. A hotel on the land will soon be launched by 2017, serving only organic food. A couple, Mrs. And Mr. Shiva Kumar, who had come to enjoy their dinner were very happy to give their views on the quality of the food, which they termed it “Immensely Hygienic and tasty”, adding that they are regulars to this hotel and the gentleman’s favou-rite dish was veg biriyani and the lady’s gem was chicken Kolhapuri and mustard chicken. ey claimed that they visit the place every week for dinner. ey are residents of HSR 2nd sector and Shiva Kumar works with an Aero Space organization in White-eld. efore you reach for the coee you may want to start your morning with a cup of hot water and lemon. Contain-

ing only 25 calories, and a glass of hot water and lemon is a great way to get

your digestive system moving rst thing in the morning and makes the process of getting rid of all the waste products from the body that much easier. It also contains nutrients such

as vitamin c, pectin ber, potassium and calcium and helps maintain the pH levels in the body. Because it is so easy to make – no juicing, or blending involved – getting in the habit of drinking hot water and lemon every

morning should be an easy lifestyle change to stick to. Drinking water with lemon aer a strenuous workout is also a good idea. Lemon juice helps replenish body salts lost during an intense workout session. It also helps reduce inammation and painful joints as it dissolve uric acid. If the

taste of lemon is too bitter for your palate, you can always add some honey, or even fresh ginger. Either way, your body will be more hydrated and better able to ush out those toxins.

B t’s piping hot, and it seems to be the in thing to do. Yes, start a food tech business and invari-ably you will grab the attention

of investors and media? What’s driving this frenzy? Why is food-tech suddenly so hot? Indians are passion-ate about food, and eating out is almost a ritual (even more so now). Even home delivery of food has increased. Something has changed in the last few years. e whole business of variety in food, process and delivery has changed.e rise in consumerism, strong economic background, and relatively better incomes are encouraging Indians to eat out like never before. e surge in the new age food-tech startup is because of all the above reasons plus the strong fundamentals it presents to the investor community.Basically, any service that allows frequent use (10-12 times in a month) per user seems to t the major theme

running at this time. Food-tech though I suspect would be the most challenging amongst the whole lot of such segments. As technology evolves, things that couldn’t be done in the past become feasible. Today, smartphones + maps + cloud + innovation are making various logistics heavy businesses feasible for the rst time. en again, this market can make

Addiction to your Credit Card can Wreck you Financially

It's Boom Time For Online Food Business!

few decades ago terms like credit card addiction, debt trap or shopaholics were unheard of. Now they are

not just terms that we read but real and potential threats, more common than we would like to think. Buying now and paying later is a regular practice whether its everyday purchases, dream holidays or consumer durables. ere is nothing wrong with it unless you get reckless with these cards and the person gets addicted to it.e rst step to solve any problem is to identify it. So how do you know that you are addicted to credit cards? Here are a few indicators.1. Exhausting or touching the credit card limit frequentlyCredit card can be life savers in nancial emergencies; they can help you ride out a small nancial storm without seeking help from others. So a maxed out credit card is necessarily not a warning sign if it happens once in a while; however a month on month pattern where your bill touches the maximum spending limit or your card is declined when you swipe it because you have already exhausted your limit (without even realising it) is a sure sign of worry. If this happens frequently then may be it's time to sit down and gure out where the money is going, what is the

spending pattern, are you buying on impulse? A high credit utilisation ratio impacts the CIBIL score also negatively.2. Constantly applying for new cardsGetting cards is very easy these days. Oen you get calls from the credit card companies telling you how convenient it is to get a new card, that there are no charges or that the credit card is being oered free to a select few, they talk about reward programmes, ying miles etc.So in case one exhausts the card limit of one or more cards getting a new one to swipe and shop is not at all dicult. What one may forget that while swiping that you still have to pay for

A

all of them at the end of the month. While you may choose to forget your debt, your debt will not forget you and all defaults reect in your CIBIL report for a period of ve years. So if one is on a constant lookout for new cards because the old one is exhausted it is surely a sign to worry about.3. Depleting savings or no savingsIf all what is earned is spent every month then it is not a good sign for the nancial health. Irrespective of how much one earns, depending on various factors a percentage of the income should ideally be saved every month. If you nd that despite budgeting you do not save anything, or there is nothing at the end of the month le to save it is a red signal.

In case you nd yourselves dipping into your savings to pay your monthly card bills then it is ared signal with capital "R".It's like a double jeopardy you are not only eating away all the earnings and not keeping anything for a rainy day but whatever little you have saved in the past is also getting eroded quickly. e urge to spend and use the credit card makes planning go awry.4. Borrowing to payGoing one step further from using one's own funds or savings to pay credit card bills is, having to borrow to pay them. In case you are forced to borrow from your friends or family to pay your credit card bills then surely you have a credit card addiction.Again resorting to this measure due to some emergency is not a cause of worry; doing it again and again is. Oen people may resort to taking personal loans or other desperate measures also to pay the bills without bothering to check their spending.5. Secretive about billsIf you hide your bills from your family or spouse then also it's an indication of an addiction to the credit card. Not wanting to discuss your spending because heart of hearts you also know it's not a healthy pattern or your family not being aware of the enormous credit card bills that one

runs every month is another sign of addiction.6. Paying only the minimum amount due Another indicator of the addiction is paying only the minimum amount due every month, because there are no funds available to pay the full amount. e bills and charges keep rising but the credit card company does not take any immedi-ate action as the minimum amount is paid, so the debt keeps adding up.is is potential trouble which can blow up at a later stage.Credit Card addiction can cause a lot of nancial damage and may tarnish your CIBIL report for a long time. So in case one feels that they exhibit any or more of the above signs or the thought of not having access to your credit card worries you then it's time for remedial action.

everyone look like a fool in the short to medium term. e way startups are getting funded in this space we might soon start seeing consolidation like in the e-commerce space. As the market will unfold is yet to see, but one clear leader in this space, Zomato, however, is pushing all the boundaries to build a high-value business.

Animal Fact - Spring PeepersSpring peepers are to the amphibian world what American robins are to the bird world. As their name implies, they begin emitting their familiar sleigh-bell-like chorus right around the beginning of spring.Found in wooded areas and grassy lowlands near ponds and swamps in the central and eastern parts of Canada and the United States, these tiny, well-camouaged amphibians are rarely seen. But the mid-March crescendo of nighttime whistles from amorous males is for many a sign

that winter is over. Spring peepers are tan or brown in color with dark lines that form a telltale X on their backs. ey grow to about 1.5 inches (3.8 centimeters) in length, and have large toe pads for climbing, although they are more at home amid the loose debris of the forest oor.ey are nocturnal creatures, hiding from their many predators during the day and emerging at night to feed on such delicacies as beetles, ants, ies, and spiders.ey mate and lay their eggs in water and spend the rest of the year in the forest. In the winter, they hibernate under logs or behind loose bark on trees, waiting for the spring thaw and their chance to sing.
