Survived by her husband of almost 68 years, Jim, daughters Sue Ann (Doug Brady), Jane (Randy Lewis) and Debby Anderson (Grant Fleming). Grandmother of ten - Holly Laird, Heather Pickles (Morgan), James Laird (Megan), Adam Laird, Sean Brady (Amanda), Megan Young (Danny), Stephanie and Sam Lewis, Tim Anderson (Jen) and Carly Anderson (Ed Kanerva). Great-Grandmother to seven - Noah and Jack Pickles, Thomas and Madison Brady, Samantha Fyfe, Liam Young and Chloe Anderson. Margaret was born and raised in Montreal. She was very active in the Oakville community for 57 years supporting her children and grandchildren through school volunteering, Guiding, dance, and sports events - a frequent spectator at football and soccer games. She was a member of St. Aidan’s Church for 50 years. She loved to accompany Jim on business trips and travel for the past 29 years post-retirement. She is resting at Oakview Funeral Home with visitation Thursday, August 13, 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and funeral at 4 p.m. Friday, August 14. Should you wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in celebration of Margaret’s life. The family would like to thank the incredible support staff at Princess Margaret and the University Health Network. LANG, Allan Douglas (“Doug”) Passed away peacefully in his sleep in his 87th year in the early hours of Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis. Survived by Mary (nee Chapman), his loving wife of 52 years. Father of Janet Lang (Nancy Hanschmann), Andrew Lang (Judy), and Jennifer Scheuring (Tom). Beloved grandfather of Robyn, Jennifer, Christopher, Alicia, Katrina and Erika. Doug was born and raised on the family farm in Châteauguay, Quebec where he developed the strong work ethic that he applied to everything he did. Realizing that the life of a farmer was not what he wanted, Doug attended McGill University in Montreal, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (1950) majoring in Mathematics. Doug only had one paying job after graduation, working at Sun Life Assurance Company for 44 years until his retirement in 1994. Doug and his family left Châteauguay for Oakville in August, 1980 as part of the move of Sun Life’s headquarters to Toronto, eventually selling off the farm that had been in the family since 1831. Always a hard worker, Doug rose to the top ranks in almost everything he did: Vice-President of Human Resources at Sun Life, Elder at St. Andrew’s United Church in Châteauguay, Commodore of the Woodlands Yacht Club, and President of the following: Châteauguay Valley Protestant School Board, Quebec Association of Protestant School Boards, Insurance Accounting and Systems Association, Rotary Club of Oakville, and Oakville Lawn Bowling Club. Spending his early years on the farm had not left much time for idle pursuits, but Doug did become an avid curler in Châteauguay and continued that as a member of the Oakville Curling Club until he had to give up playing a few years ago. With a family tree that traces back to Scotland, Doug’s other pastime was enjoying a glass of scotch, which he liked to do once a day (sometimes more) whether at home or as a member of the Companions of the Quaich. A quiet man who led more by example than by words, Doug/Dad/Grandpa was much loved and will be missed. If we measure wealth by the number of family, friends and colleagues left behind, Doug was a rich man. The family will receive friends at Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds St., Oakville (905-844-3221) on Thursday, August 20th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be held at Maple Grove United Church, 346 Maple Grove Dr., Oakville (905-845-5721) on Friday, August 21st at 10 a.m. In keeping with Doug’s wishes, he has been cremated and will be interred in Châteauguay later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations to Maple Grove United Church (www.maplegroveunitedchurch.org/index.php/category/donations/) or Rotary Foundation (https://www.rotary.org//take-action/give) would be appreciated. Greg was a compassionate son, a loving brother, and a devoted and loyal friend. We will all miss his kind heart, his piercing intellect and his rich laugh. He is survived by his parents, Barbara and Edward, his brother, David (Rezan) and his sister Alicja. He is predeceased by his sister, Mary and beloved dog, Jake. Greg graduated from Saint Michael’s Choir School in 2003 and McMaster University in 2007. He went on to a successful career at Ford Motor Company and Toronto Dominion Bank. A true Renaissance man, Greg was a talented musician, singer and chorister, (a member of the Seraphim Men’s Chorus) and had a deep appreciation for world history, classical music and the plays of William Shakespeare. Greg had a deep affection for his family and friends and celebrated all of their successes, joys and sorrows with them. He will be remembered as the life of every party, the funniest man in every room and the most fiercely intelligent person any of us has ever met. We are saddened by the knowledge that he left us all far too soon. Greg’s family and friends take great comfort in knowing that in his last year and final days, he received exceptional and compassionate care from all the physicians, nurses and staff at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. We wish to extend a special thank you to Greg’s oncologist, Dr. Michael Crump, and his palliative care physician, Dr. Lynne Benjamin. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600) from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015. Funeral Mass will take place 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, 1150 Monks Passage, Oakville. Born Mary Veronica Mulligan on September, 8, 1922 in Woolwich, London, to Emily Mulligan (nee Coughlan) and William Mulligan. Moved to British colonial India in 1926 and grew up as an Indian army officer’s daughter moving throughout the sub- continent. Convent educated in the foothills of the Himalayas along with her four siblings. Home leave was every four years by steamship following the traditional “Portside out-Starboard home” (POSH). Miss Karachi 1940, the glamorous beauty queen was swept off her feet and married the same year, at the age of 18, at Trinity Church in Karachi to William (Billy) Kermick Forsyth (MBE) of Imperial Airways, and thus began a wonderful life together for almost fifty years, taking them from Asmara, Eritrea; Nassau, Bahamas; London and then 15 unforgettable years in Beirut, Lebanon before settling in Toronto, Canada in 1975. Following “Billy’s” death in 1988, Mary remarried Alf Acey and they enjoyed many happy years together in Tecumseh Pines, Tottenham, Ontario. 40 of her 92 years were spent in Canada, moving eventually back to Oakville in 2007 to enjoy more time with her great grandchildren. Mary enjoyed spoiling them, watching their sports and being their Valentine date every year. With an infectious laugh, Mary had a fun loving approach to life, never took things too seriously and perpetually looked on the bright side, with dignity and optimism. A gracious hostess and always the life of a party, frequently stealing the show with her performance of the “Charleston” Once when asked about her long life, she remarked:” Not quite what I was planning, but I wouldn’t change it a bit” Everyone has a story and Mary’s was one of much love, generosity and happiness. She is survived by her children Veronica Koehler and Peter Forsyth, her grandchildren John (Kelly), Mary (Marcel), Alexandra (James) and Almira and her great grandchildren, Connor, Sydney, Ty and Hannah. Will be sadly missed by all who knew her, but never forgotten.
