Heather McDonald got the right gig atthe right time. Anxious for a full-time job,she emailed Chelsea Handler asking tosubmit material for the comic’s new talkshow, “Chelsea Lately.”

McDonald met Handler years ago andthat connection stayed intact. “I knewChelsea well enough that I had her toneand cadence nailed and that voice camethrough in my submission,” she said in aphone interview.

The performer appears Saturday at theGolden Nugget with three other “ChelseaLately” veterans: Brad Wollack, MorganMurphy and James Davis. The four givetheir respective hysterical viewpoints onall things pop culture.

Thewriterhopedfora13-weekcommit-ment. But five years later, McDonald stillworks with Handler, not just for “ChelseaLately” but for the spinoff, “After Lately.”The latter is a “Curb Your Enthusiasm”-style show in which the characters playthemselves and improvise dialogue basedon a loose script.

“I never had a job for five years,” Mc-Donald said. The Handler gig spared Mc-Donald from having to step up her job as aRealtor at a time when housing went bust.McDonald can be seen weekly with Han-dler on the roundtable or performing incomedy sketches.

With four comics set for the GoldenNugget, someone goes first and someonegoes last. McDonald doesn’t much carewhereshefits in. “Idon’thaveanegoaboutwhere I go.”

That said, if she’s first up, she’s first offand she can relaxwith a drink. Then again, she likes themiddle two positions. “By theend, the audience may be tired.”

All four will do meet-and-greets afterthe show.

While the four have similarities thatdraw them to “Chelsea Lately,” they havevery different styles, McDonald said. “Ifyou like her humor, you’ll see that in ourstand-up set.”

McDonald describes herself as an ob-servational comic, discussing what goeson in the world. “I’m specific to life beingmarried for 12 years, with three kids,” shesaid.

And McDonald does impressions in-cluding Drew Barrymore, The Kardash-

ians,MileyCyrus, SarahPalin, ReneeZell-weger, The Octomom, Cher and variousReal Housewives.

Shecredits “Eveningat the Improv” forher desire to be a comedienne. “I said tomyself, one day I want to do that. I didn’tunderstandhowIwoulddo that or comeupwith material,” said McDonald, who co-wrote “White Chicks” with the WayansBrothers.

Despite such a movie, McDonald callsherself a girly-girl female comic. “I al-ways wanted to be married with kids. Iloved Ray Romano’s style and Jerry Sein-feld. They parlayed their stand-up into asuccessful sitcom,” said the comic, whoguest starred on television shows Frasier,“Malcolm in the Middle,” “Reno 911,”“Drake and Josh” and “Watching Ellie.”

McDonald has a dealwithWarnerBros.to develop a sitcom based on her real life.

“It’s a dream of mine to be a mom in asitcom, like Patricia Heaton in “Every-body Loves Raymond” or Julie Bowen in“Modern Family.” I loved Roseanne forhow real her show was. There wasn’t al-ways a perfect ending and feelings gothurt. The characters were real.”

McDonald’s husband, Peter, is a mort-gagebroker andRealtor hit hardby the re-cession. So he spends a lot of timewith thethree children while she plies her profes-sion. Her act includes embarrassing thechildren.

She suspects when kids get old enoughto see that mom embarrassed them onstage or in a sitcom, she has an answer.

“Do you like private school and theswimming pool? This is howwe get it. Partof the business is revealing embarrassingthings about you guys. Being a little em-barrassed is not so bad, so deal with it.”

“There has always been a sensual and funexperiential feeling thatBorgata has provided, therefore important to display in the cam-paign,” said Joe Lupo, senior vice president ofoperations for Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

The provocative new campaign — hittingprint, radio, television, online, socialmedia andmass-transit this summer –— was designed todeliver themessagethat theparty justkeepsongoing atBorgata,AtlanticCity’smarket leader.

“Since its opening, Borgata has been theepitome of ‘The Show That Never Ends,’ ” saidJohn Schadler, managing partner of SK+G Ad-vertising, which developed the campaign.“Nonstop excitement, world-class entertain-ment, innovative cuisine, top-notch accommo-dations — you can find it all at Borgata.”

To celebrate the launch of the campaign,Borgata is offering an exclusiveFacebook con-test thatwill award $100,000 in prizes to10win-ners in 10 weeks.

The images used in the advertising cam-paign aren’t overt references to the resort, Lu-po said.

“But there are subtle reminders of the prop-erty that the different people and imagery rep-resents, such as the spa, dining, nightlife andgaming, all done inawaythat isnot soobvious.”

Shot by conceptual photographer AmberGray at NewYork’s Bathhouse Studios, the im-agery used in the campaign is a testament toBorgata’s sense of playfulness and its reputa-tion as a destination with a diverse array of en-tertainmentoptions, alldeliveredwithauniquestyle and service.

The Lesuskys, of Pottsville, Pa., werenot watching a film about an acid trip. From their vantage point on Kennedy Pla-za across the boardwalk, they watched“Duality,” a custom-made 3-D light showthat bounces off the front of the historichall twice an hour from the time the sunsets to 2 a.m.

“It’s exciting,” said Jeffrey, who wasspendinga fewdaysatTrumpPlaza. “We’llstay to see it one more time.”

“Very nice,” said Joanne. “It’s some-thing to see.”

the Atlantic City Alliance, the marketingarmof thecasino industry,whichcontract-ed with the Moment Factory. “We love tosee how many people record the showwhile they are watching…. but definitelygiven the scale of the show, which coversthe whole façade of Boardwalk Hall, wehope that people understand that the You-

Tube versions (of which there are many)cannot do the show justice.”

The contents of the year-round produc-tion will be fluid, changing with the sea-sons andwith events at the hall. For exam-ple, in late fall, the $3million showwill fea-ture aholiday theme. Most of thecostwentto infrastructure.

“The images speak to the building anditsusage,” saidJeffGuaracino, chief strat-egy and communications officer for theAtlantic City Alliance. “There are a lot offun things. It’s a whimsical creation.”

The show is divided into five acts andcelebrates the duality between the rightand left brain, the land and ocean, old andnew. Moment Factory composer VincentLetellier developed an original score thatincorporates orchestral, indie and elec-tronicmusic. Combined with themulticol-ored visuals and a well-crafted mix of 3-Dmapping andmotion graphics, this projectlooks to be a futuristic carnival for thesenses.

A film over thewindows behind the col-onnade blocks the light from entering thehall and instead reflects it back to theboardwalk. The production requires 13light projectors strategically spaced onKennedy Plaza and 25 speakers, whichblend into the building.

Since Boardwalk Hall is a historicbuilding, the speakers and projectors re-quired approval from the state historiccommission. Turns out, the building hadlight sources in theexterior in1929, so it allpassed muster.
