Trivia Game Shows Trivia is a popular basis for many game shows because you can build so many different formats around it. Pop culture fans enjoy a good trivia-based game show. For example, Jeopardy, includes questions on a variety of topics. Family fortunes also asks questions of many different topics, and includes an element of comedy in them at the same time.

Game Shows Based on Board Games and Card Games With the format and rules already laid out, board and card games are perfect candidates for the game show treatment. Giant familiar props are common on these shows, from playing cards to board game pieces. For example, Family Game Night is a show that is targeted at families who love playing games shows, and has games based on many favourite board games, providing entertainment for the whole family.

Word Games Word games are based on building, guessing, or acting out words. Word puzzles can be difficult but offer a chance for viewers to play along at home, just like trivia games do. For example, catchphrase is entirely centred around guessing a commonly known phrase from an animation.

Stunt Shows Stunt shows focus on adult contestants and tend to be a race against time, as well as the other contestants. Big stunts like giant obstacle courses are included here, as well as smaller ones that aim to shock or impress. An example of a stunt show is Total Wipeout, or Ninja Warrior UK.

Dating Game ShowsDating shows are popular because they offer comedy and entertainment to families at home. An example is Take Me Out.

FAMILY FORTUNES/ALL STAR FAMILY FORTUNES

Family Fortunes was a British game show established on the American version Family Feud. Family fortunes was aired on ITV from 1980 - 2002. The show was then restarted and went by the name ‘All Star Family Fortunes’ in 2006 - 2015. ITV has currently put the show on hold until further notice but normally airs on a Saturday. This is effective because it means families can watch the show together.

All contestants on the show must be a family with a celebrity in it. The host Vernon Kay is comedic which adds to humour of the show. It is a trivia game show, with the audience on set.

In the first game, two celebrity families compete with each other to guess the top answers to the surveys the show has carried out before hand. If they get them correct they can win up to 30,000 pounds for a charity of their choice. Get them wrong and they hear a buzzing sound. One person from each team goes up to the middle and puts one hand on the buzzer and the other behind their back. The host will ask a question, and the first person to press their buzzer gets to answer first. If they get the correct answer, but it is not first on the list, the other team can still guess another answer. If the other team's answer comes out as higher on the leader board, they win. The winning team then can choose to play or pass. If they play, they have to get the rest of the answers correct, if they pass, it will go to the other team. They get two chances to get the wrong answers, and on the third, the opposite team can choose to steal their points by giving the correct answer.

I like the show because its entertaining and funny and the viewers have the chance to join in as well. I would also like to study trivia games shows in more depth because they tend to be very successful, and you can make many different types, as well as the majority having a humorous element to them. The game show has become very successful as it even has its on game board and online versions of the game.
