TEAM PREVIEWS

The College of New Jersey Lions

The Lions posted a 5-5 record last season, including a 4-3

mark in the NJAC, which ranked them fourth in the conference. This

season’s squad is projected to finish sixth, as Rowan University re-

ceived seven of eight possible first place votes in the preseason poll.

Led by second-season head coach Wayne Dickens, the Lions began

their 2014 campaign with a 47-7 week-one loss to Ursinus College.

The Lions gave up 35 unanswered points in the second half, which

broke open a 12-7 contest. TCNJ sophomore quarterback Michael

Marchesano, tossed for 106 yards and a touchdown in the loss, while

junior back Victor Scalici totaled 55 yards on the ground.

FDU-Florham Devils

After a week-one bye, the Devils begin their 2014 season tonight

against TCNJ for the third-straight season. Last year, the Devils went

down to Ewing, N.J. and edged the Lions 18-12. The FDU-Florham

defense played outstanding and totaled a program single-game high

six interceptions in the victory. Unfortunately, the Devils did not

build on the momentum and finished the season with a 1-9 record.

FDU-Florham’s 2014 roster features many new starters at key posi-

tions including junior quarterback Tyler Maurer, who will make his

debut for the Devils after transferring to Madisonfrom Kean Universi-

ty. Junior Anthony Ognibene will get the start at running back for the

Devils after carrying the ball 12 times for 98 yards and a touchdown

last season. Defensively,the Devils will be led by senior defensive

captains Robert Loneker and Anthony Alecci. Joining Alecci in the secondary are veterans Mickey Weiks and Troy

Scales, who are posied for strong seasons in the defensive backfield.
