JUST FALLING SHORT TUESDAY: The Riders scored three times in the eighth to close within a run but fell 7-3 to Midland Tuesday night. Midland held a 3-0 lead after the second and maintained that advantage much of the night before the Riders put five consecutive hitters aboard to begin the eighth and scored their only three runs of the night. Justin Topa provided excellent relief for the Riders, allowing one run across five innings of work. EN FUEGO: Outfielder Jose Cardona is in the midst of an extremely productive homestand for the Riders, including an RBI single last night. In the first six games, he’s hitting .350 (7-for-20) with a double, three home runs and six RBIs. Cardona brings a season-long eight-game hitting streak into tonight’s contest, in which he is batting .321. SITTING PRETTY IN THE STANDINGS: The Riders enter play today one game back of Corpus Christi in the second-half standings. Through 32 games in the first half, the Riders trailed by 15 games in the standings. This is the closest the Riders have been to first at this point in a half since holding a 3.5 game lead through the first 32 games of 2016’s first half. UPWARD IN JULY: The Riders have been on a roll in July, starting the month with a 13-10 record. Frisco needs three more wins this month to ensure a winning record. It would be just the second time since the start of 2015 that the Riders finished a month with a record above .500 (17-4 in April 2016). The bats have been a big reason for the success in July, scoring 5.4 runs per game while hitting .290 with 27 homers (23 games). Prior to July, the squad scored 4.0 runs per game and hit .248 with 53 home runs (79 games). SURGING AWAY FROM HOME: So far, this year’s Riders-RockHounds season series has heavily favored the road team, with visiting squads holding a 13-5 advantage through the first 18 meetings and a 4-0 record in the first four series. The best combined road record in the history of the season series came in 2008, when the away squads went 18-10. game #103 wednesday, july 25 7:05 p.m. Dr Pepper Ballpark • Frisco, TX RHP Edgar Arredondo (0-2, 5.40) vs. LHP Jesus Luzardo (7-3, 2.36) Video: MiLB.tv • Audio: RidersBaseball.com, TuneIn Radio and MiLB First Pitch App midland rockhounds (43-58/10-22) Oakland Athletics 1 DATE TIME OPPONENT RIDERS STARTER OPPOSING STARTER Thu. 7/26 7:05 p.m. at San Antonio LHP Yohander Mendez (0-0, 7.11) TBA Fri. 7/27 7:05 p.m. at San Antonio RHP Jonathan Hernandez (2-3, 5.97) TBA Sat. 7/28 7:05 p.m. at San Antonio RHP Pedro Payano (4-7, 6.23) TBA Sun. 7/29 6:05 p.m. at San Antonio RHP Ariel Jurado (5-3, 3.28) TBA upcoming pitching probables 2018................................................ 43-59 2017................................................ 44-58 Best record .......... notes

• Last start (Thursday vs. San Antonio): Was in line for a quality start until allowing a two-run double on his final pitch of the night. His 12 hits allowed were a new career-high.

• Allowed just two hits in five scoreless innings 7/13 vs. San Antonio. Escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the second and moved past a leadoff triple to toss a scoreless fifth.

• Started his Double-A career with 4 2/3 no-hit innings June 22 at Corpus Christi. Allowed his only hit/runs on a two-run homer in the fifth.

• Named a Carolina League Midseason All-Star, his first-career all-star selection. Worked one inning in relief at Tuesday’s game.

• Left the Carolina League ranking seventh in ERA (2.88), second in both K/9 IP (10.31) and BB/9 IP (1.67) and fifth in WHIP (1.08)

• Turned in the best start of his career April 25 at Buies Creek, going nine innings (the game lasted 10), while striking out a career-best 12 batters and allowing just one run on two hits.

• Had a 6.52 ERA through his first three starts. Finished with a mark of 2.17 in his final eight outings.

• Signed with Texas in July 2013 but didn’t debut with the system until June 2015 because of right elbow surgery performed in November 2013.

• Made his professional debut with Quintana Roo (Mexican League) at the age of 15, becoming the youngest player to ever debut in the circuit.
