but Duquesne scored six straight points in the final 39 seconds for a 39-36 lead and then took control in the second half. The Flyers had 20 turnovers, which matched a season-high. The turnovers led to 22 Duke points. A-10 Preseason First teamer Chris Wright (13.2 ppg, 9.0 rpg) leads the Flyers in scoring and rebounding, followed by Chris Johnson (12.3, 5.8), the A-10’s most-improved player in 2009-10.

Last MeetingWith St. Bonaventure sophomore Andrew Nicholson sidelined, Dayton used its superior athleticism and great depth to wear down the Bonnies for a 75-58 Atlantic 10 win Jan. 30, 2010 in front of a season-high 5,290 fans at the Reilly Center. Nicholson, the reigning A-10 Player of the Week, missed the game due to illness as the Bonnies slipped to 9-10 on the season and 2-4 in the A-10. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Flyers, who improved to 15-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference.

Head Coach: Brian GregoryGregory is in his seventh year at Dayton and led the Flyers to an NIT Championship last season – the Flyers’ third straight postseason appearance. Gregory, a former assistant at Michigan State, Toledo and Northwestern, has at least 23 victories in four of his seven years to go with NCAA appearances in 2003-04 and 2008-09.

Series SnapshotDayton holds a 14-8 lead in the all-time series against St. Bonaventure. The Flyers have earned victories in each of the last eight series contests dating back to Feb. 3, 2002, the Bonnies’ last win at UD Arena. SBU is 2-7 on the road against Dayton.

He Did it AgainAndrew Nicholson notched his eighth double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds as the Bonnies held on to defeat Fordham, 69-60, at Rose Hill. It marked his first double-double in 10 games after accomplishing the feat in seven of the first nine games to start the year. For his career, the Mississauga, Ont. native has 14 games of 10+ points and 10+ rebounds.

Toeing the Line Andrew Nicholson moved into fourth place (163) on the Bonnies’ single-season FT attempts list with 16 shots from the line against Fordham. He has attempted a free throw in all but 10 of 80 career games played, including a streak of 40 straight dating back to last season.

Same Starting FiveSt. Bonaventure is one of five teams nationally to use the same starters in every game: Cleveland State (23 games); James Madison (23); Missouri State (22); Evansville (21) and St. Bonaventure (20).

Bonnies Continue Honor to Stith In memory of Tom Stith ‘61, the first All-American in St. Bonaventure basketball history, the team will continue to wear commemorative “TS #42” patches on their jerseys during the game. The patches were originally on display for the Fordham game. Stith, a New York City native, died last June at the age of 71 after a battle with cancer at a hospice near his home in Farmingville, N.Y. Schmidt & Staff Pass BaronJim Baron, the last coach to lead the Bonnies to a postseason tournament (NIT, 2001), posted 48 wins in his first four campaigns. Now in their fourth season on the Bona sidelines, Schmidt and his staff (all of whom eventually worked under Schmidt at Robert Morris) have collected 49…and counting. By number of victories in their first four seasons, here’s how it breaks down: 75 Ed Melvin (1948-52)72 Jim Satalin (1973-77)67 Jim O’Brien (1982-86)58 Larry Weise (1961-65)53 Eddie Donovan (1953-57)49+ Mark Schmidt (2007-Pres.)48 Jim Baron (1992-96) Mike Reilly (1928-32)24 Anthony Solomon (2003-07)

Return to SenderNicholson’s rejection at the 6:31 mark of the second period against Ohio made him just the third player in school history to block 150 or more shots in a career. He blocked one shot against Fordham to move to within one (162) of a tie for second place (163) on the all-time blocks list. The junior Mississauga native also owns the Bonnies’ single-game record (9 vs. Bucknell).

Welcome to the LeagueFreshman G Matthew Wright – who was 1-for-21 from 3-point range in the non-conference season – has gotten hot since the start of A-10 play. The Toronto native is shooting 60 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from beyond the arc in in last five A-10 games, marking team highs in both categories. His AST:TO ratio of 2.4 is also tops on the squad in conference play.

Hit the RoadSt. Bonaventure boasts a 6-4 record on the road this season, just one victory shy of the program record set by the 2001-02 team (7-8) and tied in 2008-09 (7-6). The Bonnies have four remaining road games on the slate.

Simmons SightingSophomore F Marquise Simmons – who missed the first 10 games of the season with a hand injury – led the Bonnies against UMass with 14 points, including 8-of-8 from the free throw line. He played just three minutes in his return against Va. Tech, but has been increasingly active on both ends of the floor with more playing time as he works his way back into the lineup.

Stepping UpEntering the season, coach Mark Schmidt commented that players other than Nicholson would have to step up for the Bonnies to find success. True to form, each of the other four starters have netted career highs including: Michael Davenport (28 pts vs. Rhode Island), Ogo Adegboye (17 vs. Ark.-Little Rock, 24 vs. Buffalo), Demitrius Conger (22 pts. 14 rebs. vs. Cornell) and Da’Quan Cook (21 pts. 13 rebs. vs. Binghamton). Matthew Wright got into the act against GW, pouring in a career-high 18 on 6-of-7 from the field and Marquise Simmons upped his best to 14 points against UMass.

Climbing the ChartsNicholson is climbing the St. Bonaventure career records list in his third season. The Mississauga, Ont. native is second on the school’s career FG% ledger (.567), ranks third in blocks (162), and now sits in 24th on the all-time scoring list with 1,264 points. He is the 22nd player in school annals to post 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career. The junior also cracked the top 10 in single season free throw attempts against URI and now ranks fourth (162).

Windex ManAfter averaging double-digit rebounds earlier this season, Andrew Nicholson’s rebounding numbers have slipped in A-10 play. The junior recorded double-digit rebounds in seven of the first nine games of the year, including a string of five straight, but had not grabbed more than more than seven until hauling in eight against UMass (an eight-game span). In the last four games, however, the junior has increased his rebounding total in each game (2-5-8-11).

Bouncing BackJunior G Michael Davenport notched his third career double-double with 28 points and 12 boards to carry the Bonnies against Rhode Island. After starting the season with a 1-for-11 3FG%, he has lifted his percentage from deep to 39.7 percent (29-73). In conference games, the Cincinnati native is converting at a team-best 42.9 percent (12-28) from 3-point range while shooting 42.7 percent from the field in seven conference games.

Aren’t You Guys Tired?Coach Schmidt has deployed the same starting five all season long, and those five players have had the opportunity to play extended minutes. Through 20 games, four of the five starters average more than 32 minutes per game and Da’Quan Cook averages 27.4. Ogo Adegboye leads the nation in minutes per game (39.2) and has played at least 36 minutes in all but two contests, including complete-game efforts against Buffalo, St. John’s, Niagara, Ark.-Little Rock and Charlotte (3OT). Demitrius Conger has played nearly 90 percent of possible minutes and is ranked 22nd nationally (36.8/gm). Andrew Nicholson was in for the duration against Ohio (60 min, 4OT) and Charlotte (55 min, 3OT).

Oh So CloseSBU defeated Fordham, 69-60, marking the first time in the 2010-11 season that the Bonnies have won a game decided by 6-10

points (1-5). When the final margin is five or fewer points, St. Bonaventure is 6-1, with the only loss coming at Rhode Island.

And-1 (More)The Bonnies have actually played the equivalent of one extra game this season when accounting for EIGHT overtime periods. By point differential (+5 Ohio 4OT, -8 VT OT, +4 Charlotte 3OT), SBU would pull out a one-point victory in that extra game, led by 22 points and six rebounds from Andrew Nicholson and 14 points and six boards from Ogo Adegboye.

Scoring the RockAs of Jan. 31, Andrew Nicholson ranks 26th nationally in scoring at 19.9 points per game and recorded the NCAA’s third-highest scoring output this season with 44 points (on 14-of-19 FGs and 16-19 FTs) in the 4OT win versus Ohio. He also has the top two scoring totals in the A-10 this season (34 vs. Charlotte) The junior has raised his scoring average every season in the Brown and White (12.5--16.4—19.9) and his current scoring clip would be the highest for a season since Marques Green averaged 21.3 in 2002-03.

Mr. ConsistencyA rising sophomore who showed flashes of talent last season, Conger has been one of the more consistent performers this season, recording at least eight points and three boards in 17 straight games from Nov. 19 at Cornell - where he notched his first career double-double (22 pts, 14 reb) - to Jan. 26 versus Massachusetts.

#100 for SchmidtNow in his fourth season at St. Bonaventure, head coach Mark Schmidt coached his 100th game at SBU against Ohio Dec. 18, 2010, the longest game in school history. Schmidt’s .430 (43-56) win percentage entering the game was the highest by a Bonnies’ mentor since Jim Baron’s .502 (132-131) mark compiled from 1992-01. Schmidt and Baron are the only two coaches to post a win-loss percentage over .400 since the start of the 1987 season.

Chasing .500After recording a 15-15 mark in 2008-09, SBU fell one game short of .500 last season by booking a 15-16 record. St. Bonaventure enjoyed a streak of 28 consecutive seasons of .500-or-better basketball from 1956-57 to 1983-84, but has just eight such seasons in the last 25. SBU has 63 seasons at or above .500 in 89 years.

Double DoublesSo far this season, the Bonnies have 17 double- doubles from four different players: Nicholson (8), Conger (4), Cook (2), Davenport (2) and Adegboye (1). Earlier this season, Nicholson’s streak of five straight double doubles tied for the second-longest in the country.

Home Sweet HomeWith a 5-4 mark in the venerable Reilly Center so far in 2010-11, SBU improves to 395-184 (.683) in 44 seasons with the RC as the home floor. With five remaining home games, the Bonnies have a chance to get their 400th win in the Reilly Center this season.

Riding the PineThe Bonnies are on the short side of the bench scoring matchup by a wide margin despite their favorable record. Through 19 games SBU has outscored the opposing bench just twice (Temple, 8-7; UMass 28-17). In all other games: Canisius (-17); Ark.-Little Rock (-10); Cornell (-10); Binghamton (-17); Cleveland State (-3); Buffalo (-9); St. John’s (-31); Niagara (-15); Ohio (-18); Va. Tech (-10); Siena (-11); Marshall (-24); Ark.-Little Rock (-15); Charlotte (-10); Temple (+1); Rhode Island (-14); Xavier (-6); GW (-6); UMass (+11), Fordham (-5).

NLI SigneesSBU added a pair of guards in the early signing period. Schenectady native Derrick Millinghaus, who currently attends Queen City Prep in Marshville, N.C., is a 1-2 combo guard with an open-court style. Millinghaus will have four years of eligibility, while fellow signee Eric Mosely will have two years remaining. Mosely currently attends Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and spent his freshman season at Austin Peay in 2008-09.

APR ImprovementMark Schmidt ranks 13th in the nation in NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) improvement, as calculated by Fox Sports. Schmidt is among the top coaches nationally in cumulative improvement of his team APR, a metric used by NCAA officials to track the academic achievement of Division I teams during each academic term. Each student-athlete earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible. A team’s total points are divided by points possible and multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s APR score.

Ahead of Schedule? Now in his fourth season at the helm of the Bonnies, head coach Mark Schmidt is ahead of schedule with respect to his previous head coaching stint at Robert Morris. During his third and fourth season at RMU, Schmidt posted back-to-back seasons with the same number of wins (14) before guiding the team to a record over .500 (15-14). At St. Bonaventure, Schmidt has guided the team to 15 wins in each of the last two campaigns in his second and third seasons with the program. St. Bonaventure has not finished a season over .500 since 2001-02 (17-13).

19th coach in 90 seasons of basketball at St. Bonaventure •

coached his 100th game at St. Bonaventure Dec. 18 when the Bonnies defeated Ohio •University in in the longest game in school history (4OT).

ahead of schedule with respect to his previous head coaching stint at Robert Morris. •During his third and fourth season at RMU, Schmidt posted back-to-back seasons with the same number of wins (14) before guiding the team to a record over .500 (15-14). At St. Bonaventure, Schmidt has guided the team to 15 wins in each of the last two campaigns in his second and third seasons with the program.

.419 (39-54) win percentage at SBU entering the year is the highest by a Bonnies’ mentor •since current Rhode Island coach Jim Baron’s .502 (132-131) mark compiled from 1992-01. Schmidt and Baron are the only two coaches to post a win-loss percentage over .400 since the start of the 1987 season.

has recruited and developed 10 players who were drafted into the NBA, including first-•round picks Brian Grant (#8 overall, Lottery pick), James Posey (#18) and David West (#18).

Success at RMU: brought in Tony Lee, who in 2007-08 was the NEC Player of the Year •and currently owns that school’s career rebounding record (751); Jeremy Chappell was 2008-09 NEC POY and graduated as school’s all-time leader in three-point field goals, double-figure scoring games, games played and starts.

SBU had also gone 7-22 prior to Schmidt’s arrival in Olean - more than doubled the win •total and moved from 13th to 8th by his third season in 2009-10.

GAME 19 UMass (12-7, 4-2) 78St. Bonaventure (10-9, 2-4) 69

Jan 26, 2011 St. Bonaventure, N.Y.FINAL: Andrew Nicholson notched his eighth double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds as St. Bonaventure (11-9, 3-4 A-10) held on to defeat Fordham, 69-60, Jan. 29 at Rose Hill Gymnasium.RALLY CAPS: After trailing 36-20 at the half, the Rams (6-13, 0-7) took advantage of the Bonnies’ slow start in the second half. St. Bonaventure, which shot 48 percent (12-25) from the field in the first half, began the final stanza in a 2-for-13 slump with six missed free throws and two turnovers while Fordham went on a 22-6 run to knot the score at 42 with 10:50 left.PuLLING AWAY: Demitrius Conger – who finished with 11 points - scored 10 straight in a 2:31 span to keep pace, before a Michael Davenport floater in the paint and a pair of baskets from Nicholson stretched a one-point lead to eight, 54-46, at the 6:00 mark. The Rams, now 0-32 in A-10 games dating back to Jan. 28, 2009, cut the margin to four before Davenport knocked down a deep triple with 1:44 to play that all but sealed Fordham’s ninth straight loss. St. Bonaventure secured the win with 10 made free throws in the final 82 seconds.
