And this edition brings to an end my editorship of our newsletter; I am hanging up my keyboard (at least in this endeavour). I have decided to move on from the committee and serving the wider Gallasch family through the newsletter and the website. But you will all always be in my heart… and I forever in the Gallasch family tree along with the other beautiful members of my little family (Debbie and Annie). I will remain around to help Luke as we slowly transition the website management into his capable hands. It is a very big job with a lot of different (and frequently moving!) bits and pieces. There are still plenty of things to fix on it, for which I’ll be providing guidance to him.

EDITORIAL Greetings everyone, you have my ramblings to grace you this edition while our president is overseas.

As for my future, I have plenty of things to fill in my time. Part of the reason my leaving has occurred now is that earlier this year I was offered the starring role as Prince Hilarion in the SA Light Opera Society’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Princess Ida. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse, and as I finish off these thoughts, we are less than 2 weeks away from going on-stage – exciting and nerve-wracking times! I’d started to get into musical theatre and acting after moving from Brisbane and before meeting Debbie (once my voice recovered from growing up with very severe asthma and me barely being able to blow out a single candle in one breath). I’m extremely passionate about music, and that’s something I know I share with many of you! And in one last shameless act of self-promotion in this newsletter, I’ve included a copy of the promo flyer for the show as … filler (because I can).

There has also been on-and-off talk of my work team being relocated from Adelaide to Canberra, and the on-going uncertainty around that at this stage makes longer-term commitments rather difficult. But I am also very saddened by moving on. It marks the end of a period of my life which I thought would be happy… but instead has left me grieving daily and incredibly heartbroken. Those who are close to us know what I mean. For everyone else, I would simply urge you to hold tightly to your dear ones and cherish them, be kind to them (which can sometimes be hard work!) – and most of all, allow them to be the person that they are and the person they are growing into. Peace be with you until we meet again, even if that ends up being on the blissful streets of gold in Paradise!

NEWS OUR GALLASCH 2018 WINTER EVENT What did it offer? WARMTH inside our St Pauls Hahndorf Hall on a chilly August evening. Warm friendship with family and friends. It was heartening to see children present, along with their parents and grandparents. A TOP CLASS 3 COURSE DINNER prepared by our super chefs Ron and Kirsty Hall, at a very affordable price. FUN! A silent auction kept us all guessing, with some unique items going silently under the hammer, and what a coincidence! – my daughter took home my wok full of veggies! AMUSEMENT! We were enthralled to hear our guest speaker Dr Mark Worthing deliver his account of trials and tribulations of his uncle’s horse farming in the USA. He really nailed it! We were all in stitches laughing! A CULTURAL DELIGHT. The Gallasch family are known for their music! Justin Gallasch, a pre-teenager surprised us with his masterful technique on the trumpet, while Jason Wandel took us on a magnificent Star Wars journey on the keyboard. Terry and I mastered a most appropriate duet (or was it a dual?). GREY MATTER CHALLENGE: Guessing how many lollies in the jar – is it luck or mathematical skill that wins out in the end? The locals thought they had an advantage over visitors in the Hahndorf Signs game organised by Sonia Gallasch, but did they? How familiarity can leave one in the lurch! Finally, APPRECIATION of our many God given blessings shared among the 50 plus family and friends that evening. Special thanks were given the committee and especially our wonderful president and compere Greg Francis. Let’s make our coming event a great success again!

The show must go on: Jason Wandel playing “Rey’s Theme”! If your music collapses during performance, grab a couple of lovely assistants from the audience! Also, note to self: insert

music into folder so it doesn’t collapse and require being held by said lovely

assistants! (photo by Wayne Gallasch)
