I. INTRODUCTION

A. Paul addressing Galatian Christians on legalism!

1. Judaizers telling newly converted they needed to obey laws of Moses.

a) The Law served as a teacher.

b) To prepare the way for Jesus.

II. GALATIANS 4:1-3

A. Galatians 3:29

B. The Idea:

1. Became a part of all promised to Abraham! 2. We will inherit all that belongs to Him! 3. Heir raised same as the slave children.

a) Brought up under care of the housekeepers.b) Father set the time son would be recognized

as an adult.c) Until Jesus came we

were bound to the world!!

III. GALATIANS 4:4-7

A. God sent Jesus, we have a new “daddy.”

B. “sons” = adult sons ready to inherit!

IV. GALATIANS 4:8-11

A. Why do you served other gods now?

B. Tells them “how” they are doing it!

1. Becoming legalistic.a) Went back to their superstitions!b) They were living like

slave kids! (1) That’s what

legalism does!!

C. They have gone from liberty to bondage.

V. GALATIANS 4:12-16

A. Verse 12

1. I became abolished the kosher rules!”

2. “Thorn” in Paul’s flesh, an eye disease. 3. They received Paul as an angel from the Lord!

a) Paul asks, “What has changed?”

b) “Am I now an enemy?”c) 2Timothy 4:2-4

VI. GALATIANS 4:17-21

A. “They” = Judaizers

1. Exclude Galatians from promises of the Lord.

a) “Lord” over their faith! 2. Be zealous over things that bring liberty.

a) Not let Godly zeal go!b) Reminds them of the

Law!

VII. GALATIANS 4:22-31

A. Bondwoman = Hagar mother of Ishmael.

B. Freewoman = Sarah mother of Isaac.

1. “Hagar illustrates Jerusalem.”

2. Gentiles would produce more children.

C. Galatian Christians were children of Promise.

D. Verse 29

1. Isaac’s “weaning party” Ishmael harassing Isaac.

a) The Law does same thing today!

(1) Legalists, taunt those who live by grace (2) Don’t live by their

rules, = bad Christian!!

VIII. CONCLUSION

A. Verses 30-31

1. Scripture doesn’t say to live with the Law. 2. Says to CAST IT OUT!

3. The Law to point the way to Jesus!

a) Once that has been done, Law fulfilled its purpose!!
