TEACHING:

Graduate: Sedimentary Geology (505); Depositional Environments (514); Advanced Sedimentology (524); Marine Sedimentology (525); Lithic Sourcing (841-501); Sedimentology of Rift Basins (514); Rivers and Flood Plains (514). Undergraduate: Introductory Geology (101,103); Environmental Geology (204); Sedimentology (340); Geomorphology (408); Hydrogeology (428); The Quaternary Period (434); Mars: The Next Frontier (222).

CURRICULUUM DEVELOPMENT:

The Quaternary Studies Certificate Program was proposed by me to the Graduate School (fall 1989) and began in spring 1990. The program explores the interaction of the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere during the last several million years. The program prepares students for a better understanding of current environmental changes and prepares them to anticipate future changes affecting the Earth and its inhabitants. Fifteen graduate students are presently enrolled and 24 students have completed requirements and received certificates. Two courses are offered each year; one is taught by faculty from participating programs and one is supported by a PTL from FAS/Graduate School. Six interdisciplinary graduate courses have been approved by the Physical Sciences Area Committee: 841-501,503, 504,505,506, and 507.
