    NOTES

    Coach

    Theme 75 mins

  • • Always be prepared to adapt to your group’s needs. The ability of the players will always vary so try to find the balance between challenging the players and giving them success.

    • Try to progress exercises 2-3 times per drill to keep the intensity, challenge and knowledge increasing. (Unopposed- Opposed- Competition- Time edge, Dimensions, Number of players)

    • Try to ‘layer’ the field to enable quick transitions between exercises. Try to have the same grid easily dividable for each exercise to save time on set up.

    • Allow quick drink breaks between exercises to allow time for set up or transitions between exercises while keeping the session at a high intensity.

    Tactical Situation- 2v1– 15 mins

    • Introducing the ‘Overlap’. 3 teams of equals numbers set up in a 2v1 situation. Have the defenders pass into the opponent to start the exercise. Once the players receives, we engage the 2v1 process. The attacker assisting the ball carrier begins to make a run around the outside of his teammate but not across the front of him/her.

    • The decision making (highlighted box) will be to pass or dribble to beat the defender but also when to pass or dribble.

    • The attackers must engage and eliminate the defender via the pass (behind the defender) or dribble (beating the defender 1v1) before scoring. If the defenders wins possession they get to pass into the pug net for a goal.

    • Competition between attackers and defenders to progress.

    Match Play– 20 mins

    • Free Play. 3x4min games World Cup Style • No coaching, only verbal commentary. • Vocalise positive reinforcement or ask

questions if there was a missed opportunity. • Bonus point if there is an overlap in a goal

    sequence or 3 overlaps = 1 goal. • N if possible, otherwise 4v4.
