Sports News

This year our Year 7 football team have managed to complete a

fantastic season that the school and they can be proud of.

In addition to their incredible display at the West Ham Lycamobile cup,

they have consistently produced outstanding performances throughout

the year and in turn have won the Thurrock secondary school league.

Having worked with them since September I can honestly say this

group of Year 7 boys have been a pleasure to teach and coach. They

have listened to me, taken information on board, worked for each other

and most importantly enjoyed their football. They have proved that

they are a very mature set of players, particularly when things didn’t

necessarily go their way; they didn’t panic and continued to play some

attractive attacking football, sometimes to a standard I can only

applaud at such a young age.

Highlights of the season:

Playing against Harris Riverside, they scored two goals in the last five

minutes to win 3-2.

In the league they went on a fantastic eight game winning streak

stretching from September to April and it was only on their last fixture

of the season they lost their first game 2-1 which prevented them from

an unbelievable 100% record.

Their quality showed once again in the cup fixtures as they never

actually got knocked out in normal time. They had good cup runs in

which they only lost in extra time or penalties, all lessons they will take

forward and learn from for next year.

The boys’ best performances were a convincing 4-1 win against second

placed St.Cleres and also a hard fought 1-0 against William Edwards,

showing they are strong at both ends of the pitch.

I cannot give the boys enough praise for their effort and

commitment throughout the season, they have been fantastic and I

look forward to coaching them over the next few years.

Mr Rungay.

Uniform / Footwear

In order to help you when purchasing a new pair of shoes for your child we have included some images of acceptable and unacceptable footwear. Please contact the school if you are at all unsure before making your purchase.

‘Kicker’ type shoes (not ankle boots) are a popular choice due to their hardwearing nature.

‘Hybrid’ trainer/shoes are not acceptable.

Lola Slavnich - Year 9 On Saturday 16th June Lola performed at West End Live in Trafalgar Square with the West End Gospel Choir. It was an amazing performance to a crowd of over 5000 people!

Well Done Lola!

Cakes made by keen Year 7 Pupils Students in 7G have been learning about life in Norman England in History. In this unit they have been learning about the development of castles within this time period. After their trip to Coalhouse Fort some keen students took it upon themselves to make cake models of a design of what they believe to be the most effective castle model. Star Perry was the first member of the group to bake her salted caramel castle cake. Isabel Turner, Ocean-Tao Mansell and Harry Staples also decided to bake an almond cake. The members of 7G were very grateful and Miss Boileau was thoroughly impressed by the creativity of her students.

Race for Life in memory of Kimberley

This year Ortu Gable Hall will be hosting a Race for Life event in memory of Kimberley Smith, a pupil who we sadly lost earlier this year to cancer.

The event will be held on Wednesday 11th July during P3. We are hoping to raise lots of money for Cancer Research by holding this event. If your child wishes to complete the 5k course they will need to pay the minimum sponsorship of £5 via their squid account (prior to the event taking place).

Should you wish to raise money on top of the £5 minimum, the Just Giving page address is https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/gable-hall-school. Paper sponsorship forms can be obtained from Mrs Marks and Mrs Oakley.

We hope to see lots of children taking part in this event as it is such a worthy cause. Every person that enters will receive a medal for taking part. Any questions please direct them to either Mrs Marks in PE or Mrs Oakley in Dance.

5k Muddy Race for Life Anne Peterson and her friend Claire Laing did the 5k Pretty Muddy Race for Life in Basildon. Anne was running in memory of various family members who we have lost their lives through cancer and a number who are currently coping with cancer and Claire ran in memory of her Auntie Dawn.
