When Considering My Advertisement
1) Sarah Blasko
Star ratings from well known
magazines/newspapers are displayed at
the bottom.This helps sell the
album to the audience, as the star rating has a influence on the audience and
already sets expectation of being good. Extra leverage
to promote the album.
The artwork is simplistic, with a portrait to which we
can assume to be the artist. This puts a face to the artist. The artwork is also creative and looks
drawn. The bright colours and tones aren’t harsh
which suggests the music is gentle and soft – so
something of a indie genre perhaps.
The quote is enlarged and in italics. It grabs your attention as you read down the advert. The words used have positive connotations
and is used as the main review.
Website link put at the bottom so the audience can find our more about the artist, and
purchase the CD also. There are also record label logos at
the opposite side as advertising of them.
The title of the album and the
artist is displayed at the top.
Standard English rules of
capitalization applies to the
names of bands and individual
artists – this goes against that, emphasizing individuality.
2) The CoralThe colours on this advert is very dark so the white text
contrasts, making it stand out visually.
The background image is of the band who are in black and
maroon-red tint. This gives them a identity to their music and suggests there music is
darker to the previous analysis of Sarah Blasko. So we can assume the genre is rock or
indie
At the bottom, the advert tells you where it is available. So it is available in HMV and
then has links to relevant websites for
readers to go and look up the band as well as their record company
The font for the information is consistent
with the album font style. They list live
shows in the conventional format as
expected – following the same font throughout.
It is in a easy bullet point list so it is easy for the audience to read.
There is a image of the album, which
promotes their certain artistic style as well as showing the product they want people to
buy.
This advert promotes their album and their
upcoming live gigs
3) Tom JonesUnlike the last two
analysis's, Tom Jones is a well established artist and is known
globally. So unlike the last two. He doesn’t have to out himself
on the cover as people already know
who he is by his name.
The album is given a due date. The font is in big bold texts and
contrasts against the background, making it stand
out.
The section at the bottom ‘name drops’ credible people in the music industry such as Bob Dylan. This can be used to interpretation on the quality of the music on this album, further encouraging
the audience to buy it.
A positive review quote from a established
newspaper is used at the bottom as
further encouragement and
emphasis on how brilliant this product
is.
The background is dull which
suggests there is a emotional twist to the music and it links to the title
“Praise and Blame” ,which
then links to the image of a church.
The image is suggestive of
many elements which could be in
the album.
I have established the common feature
of logos in the advertisements.
4) Plan BThis advert has a distinct consistent colour scheme of
black, red and white.
The artist is put at the top in big bold
text to grab the readers attention. Followed by the album title down the side in a left
aliment.
Rating are given by different magazines and newspaper, with 4 star ratings. This
promotes the album, because those who review music are in their professional
field and are therefore trust
worthy.
A small clip of the album cover is put in the bottom left hand side. So the reader
knows what the product looks like.
There are links again to the
artists website, where you can go to find out more
information about them, listen to
their music, find out when they are
performing live and buy their
merchandise and CD
The artist is shown as the main image and is given a side profile and with his
microphone, suggesting he is the singing and it links his identity
together.
5) War PaintEven though the
advert is primarily
advertising the live shows coming up
Album artwork is used and the layout is pretty
similar.
The black, red and white
background is consistent apart
the album art work, which
contrasts hugely, allowing it to stand out.
The identity of the artist isn’t clear – they
used concept artwork, so I’m presuming they are well known
by their fan base and the magazine. Links – Social Media, Official

6) Emmy The GreatArtist Title is
centred and follows a consistent
Christmas theme. It has iconic
Christmas jumper with the text in the typical Christmas colours of green
and red.
Social networking sites are used along
with links at the bottom of the
advert.
No image is given, but this could be due to
the fact it’s advertising a gig
rather than a album.
Same conventional layout mainly with a central orientation.

The design is very simplistic and is central, creating an
even layout on the page. All the information is at the bottom on the page and
includes a gig list and other relevant information.
I have simplified ‘The Coral’ advert isn’t it’s basic form.
The grey represents the artist image or a specific background colour.

This designs main focus is the image of the artist, creating
an identity for them and then with the additional
information at the bottom. The image is to catch the
audiences eye along with the title.
This design focuses on the album cover and the reviews. It copies the style of the 1st
album advert of Sarah Blasko. The design is very simplistic and is central, creating an even layout on the page.

With the title on the side it allows for more room of the
images, which could over lap each other. The small print remains at the bottom.
The design has the reviews on the right in a Column with a big picture, it mimics a new
paper layout.

For my magazine advertisement…
Things To Consider:
- Album Title - Artist Name- Logos (record label not applicable in coursework)- A Positive review quote (at least one)- Image of artist or a concept design (their
signature style)- Web Links (websites, social media)- Any gig dates – if applicable
- Some examples I could use into my advertisement… (Taken from their website)
“For a band still really in its infancy, the maturity of material and stage presence is impressive. Any
promoters out there.... maybe time for a local festival this summer?” MDM Records.
“One of Norfolk's best up and coming bands” Norfolk Guitar & Bass Centre.
- Which layout would suit it best? What information do I have to include in the advertisement?
