SimilaritiesSimilarities
Differences
•Both magazine, have devoted each page either to images or text.
•The text is placed in columns, and the questions are highlighted in different colours.
• There is also a main quote taken from the interview.
• I have also copied the conventions of the title.
•I have used a range of shot types of the same person, to represent different personalities.
•I have used a different colour layout in order to fit my house style.
•Lastly I have decided to place my text on the left and the images on the right. This is since people tend to look at the left side first, which will make them ready the text, and therefore read about the artist.
How does your media product represent particular How does your media product represent particular social groups?social groups?
However, I have chose to challenge this particular social group, as it is expanding into new cultures and ethnicities. So my magazine is able to represent a variety of social groups, instead of focusing on just 1.
It represents a social group, as this picture can express the hip hop culture:
• Latest trends in urban fashion.
• Keen on buying jewellery to present themselves as being quite powerful.
• Being unique, having trendy hair styles.
• Having confidence and attitude.
• Ethnicity
Hip hop developed through culture, it is based on looping, rapping, free styling, DJing, scratching, sampling and beat boxing.
The stereo typical social group for the genre is working class afro carribean male, between the ages 16 – 24.
They are associated with wearing baggy jeans, baseball caps worn backwards, large t-shirts and loads jewellery.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
•IPC Media produces over 85 media brands
•There readers consists of, two thirds being women and 44% of men
•Their brands collectively reach 20 million users every month.
•IPC's also publishes a wide range of magazines to suit everyone.
•They distribute leading music magazine NME and therefore have knowledge and experience within the music genre.
•They also have a wide audience range.
•This concludes, that publishing my magazine will be a good opportunity for the company to expand there audiences and genres of music.
Who would the audience be for your media product?Who would the audience be for your media product?
For my product, I have chosen to challenge the conventions of hip hop
audiences.
•I have chose to aim the magazine to a wider audience, by aiming it towards different backgrounds, instead of just
Afro-Caribbean.
• Firstly by including the ethnic minority, this is since there is a growing number of
Asian people who are interested in the genre.
•Also I wanted to aim the magazine the to both genders, even though I have used a female on the front cover. I have kept the theme and colours quite boyish. In order
to attract both males and females from the age group 16-24.

Using AdobeUsing Adobe
This shows how I used Adobe to manipulate my images, and one of my stages of development. As you can see:
• I changed the levels of the colours, to show more emphasis of the artist on my magazine by making it appear more dominant on the cover.
•I also changed the hue of top, in order to change the original colour, to fit the colour scheme of my magazine.

BEFORE AFTERAFTER
Another development I made using In Design was adding effects to my images. Firstly I re-adjusted the dominant image, by creating a Polaroid effect and enhancing it further by adding a drop shadow. I used this effect for the following the 3 images below. This is to make my magazine appear more creative and exciting, to attract my audience, as that’s what they would expect to find.
