InstructionsNOTE: The following instructions assume the G3 pump has been taken out of service and is no longer under pressure and all electrical connections have been removed. If this is not the case, see the G3 Automatic Lubrication Pump instruction manual.

Recommended Tools:• 1-1/8 inch Socket• Strap wrench• Large, flat blade screw driver• Rubber gloves• Disposable plastic scraper• Rags

Disassembly1. Prepare a container to collect grease drained from

the G3 pump reservoir.

2. Use a 1-1/8 inch socket to remove plugs (pl) from the G3 pump base (pb) (FIG. 1). Drain the grease into the prepared collection container until the grease level in the reservoir is between 20% and 30% (gl). This will help prevent a sudden surge of grease when the base and reservoir are separated.

3. Replace plugs (pl) in pump base (pb) (FIG. 1). Tighten securely.

Two people will be needed to complete Step 4.

4. Lay the G3 pump on it’s side. While one person uses a strap wrench to unscrew the reservoir (r) from the pump base, a second person should insert a large, flat blade screwdriver into the bottom groove of the adapter plate (ap) to prevent if from moving as shown in FIG. 2.

5. Carefully remove the reservoir (r) from the pump base (pb) and pour the remaining grease out of the reservoir and into the collection container (FIG. 3).

6. Remove the follower plate (fp) (FIG. 4). Use a rag to clean as much grease as possible off the follower plate. Dispose of the follower plate according to local codes for proper disposal.

7. Use a small, disposable, plastic scraper or similar plastic device to clean out as much grease as possi-ble from inside the reservoir (r) (FIG. 5). Use a rag to wipe out the reservoir to get it as clean as possible.

8. Clean the spring (sp). Use a rag to clean as much grease as possible from the spring coils (FIG. 6).

9. Clean the around the pump base threads (pbt). Use a rag to remove as much grease as possible (FIG. 7).

10. Remove the seal (sl) (FIG. 8). Dispose of the seal according to local codes for proper disposal.

11. Dispose of cleaning rags and grease collection con-tainer according to local codes for proper disposal.

NOTE: The grease removed from the reservoir can-not be reused. Reusing the grease could contami-nate the entire system by introducing dirt and other foreign matter.

ReassemblyThe following parts are included in the new Follower Plate Kit and should be used for reassembly. Do not reuse the old parts removed during disassembly.

1. Install the new seal (2) around the pump base. Apply a thin layer of grease around the seal (FIG. 9).

2. Apply a thin layer of grease to the top, center seal (cs) of the new follower plate (1) (FIG. 10).

3. Use a cotton swab or pick to clean out grease that may have pooled inside the center post seat (cps) located in the center of the pump base.

4. Install the center post (cp) in the center post seat (cps) making sure that grease does not push the bearing up when the post is inserted in the opening (FIG. 12).

NOTE: If the bearing (br) is pushed up and out of the seat as shown in FIG. 13, remove the center post and clean more grease out of the seat. The top of the bear-ing will be flush with the top of the center post seat (cps) when correctly installed.

5. Install the follower plate (1) over the center post (cp) with the spring seat (ss) facing up as shown in FIG. 14.

The spring (sp) is cone-shaped. The larger diameter is the base (bottom) and installed in the follower plate spring seat (ss). The smaller (top) of the cone should be centered in the top center of the reser-voir.

6. Install the spring (sp) in the follower plate spring seat (ss) (FIG. 15).

7. Install reservoir (r). Look through the top of the res-ervoir to verify the top of the spring (sp) and center post (cp) are seated in the reservoir seat (rs) (located in the center of the top of the reservoir) as shown in FIG. 16.

8. To correctly align the threads, the reservoir vent (v) should be facing toward the back of the G3 pump base (pb). See FIG. 17 for the correct orientation of these parts to ensure proper installation.

9. Position the strap wrench around the reservoir (r) and turn reservoir clockwise two full turns to secure the reservoir to the pump base (pb). The center ridge on the front of the reservoir should be in line with the small black tab on the pump base as shown in FIG. 18.

10. Reinstall G3 pump. See G3 pump instruction man-ual for pump installation instructions.

NOTICE

Be careful when installing reservoir that seal (2) is not pinched between the reservoir (r) and the pump base (pb) If the seal is not correctly installed, grease could leak out of the bottom of the G3 reservoir.
