Summative Assessment
Students collect a portfolio of communications throughout the unit (emails, letters, pictures, artworks) At the end of this
unit the students choose three pieces of work to reflect on. They will be working in a groups. Each group takes amessage to deliver in different ways. They will use a variety of communication methods and justify their selection.
How you can help your child at home?
Collect different types of messages and written forms of communication to bring into school
Find samples of signs and bring to schools Make up some codes and bring them to class to share with the students
Write your child a letter and post it in our grade letter box
We welcome any parents who can do tai chi, sign language, mime to share your skills with a group of students.

Visual Arts
During this unit Art classes will connect to the concept of communication. The students willinquire into the ways art can be used to communicate through the combination of text intomixed media collage. The students will interpret artworks, which include written text. Gainingideas and inspiration from contemporary mixed media artists will help the students to developa message or personal feeling through mixed media.
UNIT OVERVIEW
Music
The Grade 2 students will explore a variety of ways that music can be used to communicate
and send messages, as a link with their unit of inquiry. In addition, they will learn a few songswith sign language to demonstrate yet another way that we can use different media tocommunicate.
PE
In this PE unit, students will be engaged in track and field pursuits. To further develop theirskills in locomotion, students will learn the correct starting positions and techniques for bothsprint and middle distance running as well as hurdles and relay. We will focus on jumpingevents, such a long jump and high jump, as well as throwing discus and javelin. Students willbe encouraged to use the correct throwing and jumping techniques, focusing on their personalbests.
Chinese Language Focus:Students will learn about the history ofChinese characters - from pictograms tomodern characters.They will also learn about the symbolism inTai Chi (animal poses)
