Title: Traditional Chinese Puppet

Background:

Traditional Chinese Puppet have been performed to entertain gods and people, and to thank to the gods for renewing the life forces of the community.

Problems:

Could not attract mass attention

Being forgotten by mass

High budget

Objectives:

To make people recognize, understand and even

more familiar with the Chinese Puppets.

To alert people not to forget the culture.

To associate new media with old story and improve

the interaction between people and culture

Idealization & Concept:

Create a Flash based application to let user

explore more about the Chinese Puppets including

flash game.

Target Audience: Youths

Motivation:

I have my topic is because the puppet is adorable

from it’s costumes, expression and so on. In this

century, people especially youths only pay little

attention to this piece of cultural inheritance and

development. Chinese Puppets are going to

eliminated by communities and replacing by

popular culture.

Why Chinese puppet is no longer popular in our community?

There is a lot of reasons for the current trend that the community has not chosen Chinese puppet as part of their source of entertainment as the olden days in the Chinese community. There has been a lot entertainment that has been offered from the internet and also console games that has been introduced to our community in the years and this has becoming some of the trends that our community keen to forget the older entertainment that have been offered to them .

Since people like to playing game. So my

installation is content + game based to attract their

attention. At least while they playing the game

and they also gain the knowledge.

I inspired by the tales of “Journey to The West” and the motivation of the journey to the West group. “Journey to The

West” is one of the most popular Chinese Puppeteering and I

going to create a flash based application which is consist of

information and game. They are learning while they are

playing or exploring.

To make my installation more interesting, I decided

to add in game to arouse user’s interest rather than

read a ton of text. Nowadays, games playing a

important role in a human life. I renovated the

journey into a mission which is related to Chinese

Puppets, user must have the certain knowledge to

survive in this game.

Few of the mini games concept inspired me to

insert into my application.

To make the game more challenges, user have to

complete the mission by the time given. If failed to

do so, user have to replay again, by this time, the

mission will getting harder to achieve. So, user

better read the information before they start the

game.

Every races having their own cultural, and a culture build up a community.

Historical context

To let user know the history behind of the traditions.

Keep the traditions to next generations.

Social context

Let user to join the game and explore the content from the application.
