Recently opened in the centre of Poulton, the new owners, Alan and Nicky, are ready to welcome you to come and experience English Rustic fine dining. The restaurant has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff ready to ensure that you enjoy your time with us.

Our food is prepared by a dedicated, skilled kitchen team, working with the finest and carefully selected locally sourced ingredients to create simple and yet exquisite cuisine with a contemporary twist. The classic English menus emphasise Lancashire’s finest seasonal produce and rustic flavours.

As our food is freshly prepared it enables us to easily adapt the dish to accommodate any special diets such as gluten free or low carbohydrate on request. Our menu also offers a good selection for both the vegetarian and pescatarian diner.

The food is complimented by an extensive bar, cocktail and wine menu including the very best in English Wine, Fine Wines and Champagnes.

This is the perfect venue for day and evening time dining either from the Mini Indulge Set Menu or A La Carte Menu. Also available is a private dining room for that special occasion and function room for other special events and small conferences.

The restaurant also boasts a rear garden terrace area which can only be described as Poulton’s hidden secret. Here you can enjoy a coffee, drinks or light bite from the Indulge Garden Terrace Menu.

Blackpool Windows and Solar Energy (BWSE)

Is a family run business that has been supplying and fitting quality doors, windows and conservatories across the Fylde Coast and Lancashire for many years.

The company has recently expanded into green energy conservation by including PV panels in its portfolio of products.David Williams, the proprietor of BWSE said ‘PV panels are fitted onto the roof of domestic and commercial properties and convert the suns energy into electrical energy which is the current that we use in our houses

By generating this energy you can help power your own home and also receive a guaranteed feed in tariff from the

Government for the next 25 years and the tariff is index linked so will keep pace with inflation. It’s a fantastic way to beat the inevitable electricity bill rises and to also receive an income from the Government.

We can take you through the initial design to the final installation and will ensure all your questions are answered so that you are fully aware of the system and requirements. We also complete all the paperwork to obtain the feed in tariff so that the whole process is easy and painfree’.

Companies have to adhere to a strict accreditation process which provides reassurance to the customer that the work and system is being fitted to the correct standards. PV panels have already taken off in other parts of the country and demand has increased with the recent

announcements of price rises by the energy companies. Some forecasters predict the increase could be as high as 19% so it makes sense to be get ready now and not have to worry this winter.

BWSE also continue to provide doors, windows and conservatories as well as PV panels so if you would like more information about any of these product please call us on 01253 824109/07753583602.

There are no flashy salesman and no hard sell methods, we want our customers to be 100% happy with the quality, workmanship and price from Blackpool Windows Solar and Energy and most of our work comes from returning customers and recommends.

Start making money today and install PV panels onto your roof, you’ll be glad you did.

Unit Design Unit Design was established in 1972 when two brothers began manufacturing bespoke headboards in their garage. Since then the company has grown considerably, but at heart, we are still the same firm, run by the same family, for almost 40 years.

With all this experience, we pride ourselves in being one of the North West’s leading fitted furniture specialist. We are delighted to say that we have over 20,000 satisfied customers throughout the local area.

Bedrooms are still our speciality. However, over the years, we have used our expertise to expand our range to include fitted lounge & study furniture, all made to our same very high standards. It is not just furniture for your homes that we manufacture, you will also find our made to order units installed in many local schools, hotels and business premises.

There are no high-pressure sales people at Unit Design; all of our employees have experience in all aspects of the company so we can always give you the best advice possible. Our experienced designers will happily visit your home and put their knowledge to the test to provide you with a free, no obligation quotation.

Why not visit our extensive showroom where you can browse at your leisure through our 20 room settings. Should you require assistance there is expert advice always on hand and prices are clearly displayed.

You will be amazed at the quality and variety of furniture we can offer you at prices that will not break the bank.

The Beauty in Your Garden I county myself as a naturalist: not a professional, just somebody who has an abiding passion for the natural world. And if you are a member of this particular guild, you are unlikely to be bored for long.

Take the wildlife of an average garden and you will see, if you really look, an abundance of fabulous wildlife. When I was a child there was a common bird that we all called the hedge sparrow. Well the hedge sparrow has now grown up and is known as the dunnock. (To be technical it is a member of the accentor family.) It is the typical little brown bird that so confuses birders, but if you look hard, it is a minor miracle

of subtly muted shades, with brownish flanks and a breast that in the right light is blueish. The same thing could be said about the wren, although they are rarely

still long enough to get a good look at their markings.

Last year I saw some sort of fly on my tomatoes that was astonishingly colourful – mixing bright pink with turquoise. Lift up virtually any piece of garden debris and you might see colourful snails, sleeping frogs or centipedes that are the apex predators of their miniature realm, equipped with forward facing, venom filled fangs to deal with their prey. So although I don’t have a degree in biology and I am no David Attenborough, I still count myself as a naturalist and I know that if I am ever bored I only need to have a poke about in the garden.

St Chad’s

Whether you are religious or not, there can be little doubt that St Chad’s church forms the axle around which life in Poulton revolves. For strangers it provides a handy meeting point, whilst the locals are more likely to rendezvous in one of the many pubs, bars or restaurants that populate its orbit. With little better to do the other day, I had a bit of a look around the churchyard. Most of the tombstones date back to the 1800’s, but there are a few older than that, if you care to seek them out. A couple of centuries ago it seems that women were denied any independent identity of their own, being referred to in death as “Wife of” or “Daughter of”. Most of the denizens of the sod were local people; hardly surprising when you consider that up until 150 years ago, or thereabouts, most people lived and died without ever having left the immediate confines of their town or village.

Although I must confess I have no idea where “Welphfhier” might be.

Quite a few of the deceased seem to have a lived until well into their seventies: even the old pirate who slumbers under the skull and crossbones at the back door of the church made it to the grand old age of 71. Perhaps he retired early from the swashbuckling business and became a haberdasher.

I, for one, would have preferred his final resting place to be marked by the words “Died in a knife fight in a Montevideo brothel!”

Box Bros. Ltd. having served Blackpool and Fylde with a funeral service since 1915

Realised the necessity of Chapels of Repose facilities for Poulton-le-Fylde and the surrounding districts. Appropriate premises were purchased in the 1990’s and a complete Funeral Service consisting of Chapels of Repose, private interviewing rooms, offices and accommodation for a resident Funeral Director were made available. Having a resident Funeral Director and Funeral Arranger has resulted in offering a 24 hour a day service to the local community.

To maintain the high standard of service offered, Funeral Operators with the necessary qualifications are essential. Steve Nicholls and

Sandra with nearly 30 years experience, who hold membership in the British Institute of Funeral Directors and diplomas in Funeral Directing have relocated to Poulton-le-Fylde.

Said Steve,

“Our past experience of helping families of all races and religion with funerals including National and International Repatriations is always available at Station Road, whether it is through advice or assisting with any queries that may occur. Between Poulton and our Blackpool Offices Box Bros. Ltd can be beneficial to families regardless of distance and needs”.

HAMBLETON W.I.

Rosie Newton [age about 21] from the Home Fire & Rescue Service at Fleetwood gave us a lot of dire warnings mainly connected to THE CHIP PAN and BOOZE as apparently some people go to the pub or club and come back home fancy some chips, put the pan on the stove then settle down to watch TV, fall asleep sometimes with a lit cigarette in their hand and KERPOW a fire is soon out of control. Rosie told us not to go back into the kitchen and NEVER try to take the chip pan out of the house, just close all doors behind you and get out and stay out, and then call the Fire Brigade, the neighbours may have done this already. A smoke alarm that has a working battery [have you tested yours today?] would have woken up the sleeping person before poisonous fumes could do any harm. Fire starts when concentration goes.

The Fire Brigade will come to your house if you request it and check your alarm and usually recommend their 10year battery model, they will also check your home for safety features, such as electric blankets, keep them on the bed do not store away as the wires get bent and can short out the electrical parts, overloaded single plugs can burn out. Keep your house key where it can easily be found, if you ever have a house fire you need to be able to get out quickly and not waste valuable time searching for your key.

The Fire Brigade deal with all sorts of incidents, rescuing a horse or a cow out of ditches, assisting the coastguards,

as they have a lot of experience in rope work, can help to pull people out of a river or down a well, helping the police in road traffic incidents such as chemical spillage, to protect the community from inhaling gases.

Hoax calls from drunks or youngsters daring each other to ring the Fire Brigade can result in the fire engines going out and then a real emergency can occur and this means a delay in getting to the incident and the results can be tragic, so Rosie and her team go out to schools to put the message across to all the age groups that these calls can be lethal.

Rosie was thanked for her words of wisdom by Sue Cross. The competition of a candle was won by Linda Musgrave.

Happy Days are here again!

There were beaming smiles all over at this Poulton Nursery as it received top marks form education inspectors Ofsted.

Happy Days Childcare on Carr Head Lane was visited by Ofsted inspectors at the beginning of the month, and staff were delighted at their findings.

Every aspect of the nursery’s provision was classified as outstanding, and praise was heaped on the efforts of staff and the experience the children have in the centre.

In her report, inspector Sandra Williams wrote: “Children benefit greatly from attending this vibrant, stimulating and friendly nursery.

“All children have excellent opportunities to adopt healthy lifestyles and enjoy fresh air and exercise, as they freely access the wonderful outdoor play areas.

“The extremely professional and motivated management and staff group make sure that children’s safety, welfare and learning is promoted to an excellent standard.

“Managers and staff have a commitment to excellence and are constantly self evaluating their practice to maintain their high standards and continuous development.”

The nursery takes children aged from three months to five years and is planning a fun day to celebrate the glowing report.

Staff have also pledged to continue to try and improve the service to children and parents.

Sara Beardall, manager of the nursery said “We are delighted with our outstanding inspection, and very proud of our staff, children and parents.

“We are the first nursery to achieve this in Poulton and believe only two other nurseries on the Fylde coast have achieved this level.

“We have lots of exciting things planned, and will continue to evaluate the services we offer to make sure we remain outstanding.

“We are all passionate about the children we care for at Happy Days.”

Happy Days also offer summer clubs and open between 7.30am and 6pm. To view the full report see Ofsted website at www.ofsted.gov.uk
