Metro Access Improvements Program

• WMATA’s CIP priorities focus on safety and state of good

repair

• County leads station access improvements to: – Ensure timely completion of projects

– Support increasing density around transit stations

– Improve continuous street-level access to Metrorail stations

– Ensure access points are compatible with communities’ urban design

• Project objectives:1. Improve ADA access and provide elevator redundancy

2. Improve emergency egress

3. Increase access/egress capacity at high ridership stations

4. Upgrade street level elevator exteriors

existing west side escalator entrance

• Upgrade exterior of existing elevator

• Schedule:

• Completed Feasibility Study – 2010

• Completed PE – 2013

• Design – FY16 to FY17

• Construction – FY18 to FY19

• Working Est.: $5.1M (FY15-24 CIP)*

– Funding: $4.9M Fed/State Grants; $0.2M Local

– Fully funded, but aging federal and state grants

• Design and construct full entrance at N.

Fairfax & N. Vermont

• New escalators and elevators from street

to tunnel and from mezzanine to platform

• New mezzanine over train platform

• Schedule:

• Completed PE – 2006

• Design – FY17 to FY19

• Construction – FY19 to FY22

• Working Est.: $89.9M (FY15-24 CIP)*

– Funding: NTVA Regional, State, Local and

Developer Contributions – Design phase funded;

construction not fully funded

concept design and update cost estimate

• Negotiating with WMATA to lead project and
