Therapeutic Lasers In General Veterinary Practice

This four hour lecture/lab will open with an overview of laser technology and its uses in general practice. This session will include innovative ways to market the laser to your clients. Following the lecture, students will participate in an interactive presentation of cases, protocols, treatments on live canines and outcomes. The program is open to DVMs (who examine the patient and prescribe treatment) and technicians (who perform the laser treatment).

Small Animal Abdominal Ultrasound

Eric A. Ferrell DVM, DACVR

This seminar series and combined wetlab are designed as an overview of abdominal ultrasound in small animal practice. The seminar consists of four, 50–minute lectures. The basic physics, understanding and optimizing instrumentation, common artifacts and scanning techniques will be reviewed. Normal ultrasound appearances of all major abdominal organs, along with small parts and the peritoneal and retroperitoneal spaces, will be discussed. Wetlab participants will scan canine patients to gain exposure with scanning techniques, image optimization and identification of major abdominal organs.

This lab will discuss sample collection, touch prepara-tion, fluid analysis, slide preparation and interpretation. 5 categories including inflammation, (3 types) cyst forma-tion, (3 types) Hemorrhagic lesions, Neoplasia (Epitheli-cal cells, Mesenchymal cells, Round cells and Neuroen-docrine cells) will be covered. Interpretation will cover Benign vs. Malignant features.

Each 50-minute lecture is worth one continuing education credit. Attendees can earn up to 18 credit hours. For your convenience in recording your CE hours, one certificate will be included in your registration packet. It is your responsibility to document the sessions you attend and the number of hours you receive.
