How did HISD and HCC decide on program themes?

• Based program selection on labor market projected job growth in the Gulf Coast region

• All programs are considered high-growth & high-demand

• Data obtained from Workforce Solutions & Bureau of Labor Statistics

• Each school had 3 months to recruit students into their program • Parent night presentations• Tested students on Compass exam• Student informational nights

• Five programs started college level dual credit courses summer 2012

• Jane Long started HCC’s Health Care Academy with Freshman fall 2012

• Each campus recruited between 30-50 students to take part in this new and innovative program

• Becomes first FUTURES Associate in Science degreed program

• Partnership between UT MD Anderson School of Health Professions

• Associate Degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management

• Partnership developing with the University of Houston Conrad Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management

• Additional opportunities with Admiral Capital Group Hospitality program

• Partnership could allow students to pursue their bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston upon completion of the Futures Academy program and high school graduation

• The Hotel/Restaurant Management AAS program is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level management positions in the hospitality industry

• Students acquire a broad base of knowledge and skills for a successful career in a challenging service business environment

• Industry growth projections range from 10.5% to 35.1%

• Entrepreneurship courses will be incorporated into program during freshman and sophomore year
