ACCUMULATED FOULS

WHAT IS AN ACCUMULATED FOUL?

• A penal foul (contact)

• Kicks or attempt to kick an opponent

• Trips or attempt to trip an opponent

• Jumps at an opponent

• Charges an opponent

• Strikes or attempt to strike an opponent

• Tackles an opponent

• Pushes an opponent

• Spits at an opponent

• Deliberately handles the ball

• Holds an opponent

ACCUMULATED FOULS

• Five accumulated fouls per half

• Will be announced by referees

• Includes fouls where the referees play advantage

• On the sixth accumulated foul and onwards, a Direct Free Kick is awarded from the Second Penalty Mark without a wall

• Foul Count resets every half

RETREAT DISTANCE

• Retreat distance from corner kicks, kick-ins and free kicks is 5 metres

• Failure to respect the required distance is a cautionable offence

GOALKEEPER RULES

CONTENT

• 4 second possession

• Multiple touches

4 SECOND POSSESSION

RULE: The goalkeeper has 4 seconds to release the ball from their possession from both their hands and feet.

EXCEPTION: This only applies in the defending half.Goalkeeper can be in possession of the ball for as long as they want in the attacking half.

INFRINGEMENT: Indirect free kick to the opposing team where the ball is.

4 SECOND POSSESSION EXAMPLE

• For example, a goalkeeper makes a save and they hold the ball in their hands for two seconds and then releases it. He then plays the ball with his feet for three seconds in his own half.

FOUL! A Technical foul. Indirect free kick awarded to the opposing team where the ball is. If they are inside the penalty area, it’s taken outside.

MULTIPLE TOUCHES

RULE: The goalkeeper cannot touch the ball a second time in their own half of the court from a deliberate pass from a teammate.

RESETS WHEN:

• The ball goes out of play

• Opponent touches the ball

EXCEPTION: This only applies in the defending half.Goalkeeper can touch the ball as many times as they want in the attacking half.

INFRINGEMENT: Indirect free kick to the opposing team where the ball is.

MULTIPLE TOUCHES EXAMPLE

• For example, a goalkeeper makes a save and they release the ball from their possession by passing the ball to a teammate. The teammate who is immediately put under pressure passes the ball back to the goalkeeper who receives the pass.

FOUL! A Technical foul. Indirect free kick awarded to the opposing team where the ball is. If they are inside the penalty area, it’s taken to the top of the penalty area.

MULTIPLE TOUCHES EXAMPLE 2

• For the second example, a goalkeeper makes a save and they release the ball from their possession by passing the ball to a teammate. The teammate passes it to a teammate further upfield and they play a passing game without any interceptions from their opponents for two minutes. Suddenly, they are put under pressure and they pass back to their goalkeeper.

FOUL! A Technical foul. Indirect free kick awarded to the opposing team where the ball is. If they are inside the penalty area, it’s taken to the top of the penalty area.

MULTIPLE TOUCHES EXAMPLE 3

• For the third example, a goalkeeper takes a goal clearance and they throw the ball to a teammate. The teammate who is immediately put under pressure passes the ball back to the goalkeeper who receives the pass.

FOUL! A Technical foul. Indirect free kick awarded to the opposing team where the ball is. If they are inside the penalty area, it’s taken to the top of the penalty area.

This applies to any restart of play that the goalkeeper may have taken (kick-in, goal clearance or free kick.
