FUNGAL KINGDOM
Fungi (sing. Fungus)
Eukaryotic Heterotrophs. Non-photosynthetic organism. Reproduce both sexually and asexually. With the exception of one-celled species, most fungi are composed of threadlike
tubular filaments called hyphae.
The Five Phyla of Fungi
Fungi are classified primarily by the type of spores and fruiting bodies produced. Many mycologists divide the Kingdom Fungi into four main phyla:
Chytridiomycota, Zygomycota, Ascomycota, and Basidiomycota. A fifth phylum, Deuteromycota, is used
by some taxonomists for fungi that typically produce only asexual spores.
Chytridiomycota
The name is derived from the Greek
chytridion, meaning "little pot", describing the structure containing unreleased spores.
Chytridiomycota
Zygomycota
( also known as zygote fungi) The name comes from zygosporangia,
where resistant spherical spores are formed during sexual reproduction.Approximately 1060 species are known.
Neurospora
Ascomycota
Together with the Basidiomycota, form the subkingdom Dikarya. Its members are commonly known as thesac fungi. They are the largest phylum of Fungi, with over 64,000 species.

Common Morel
Peziza
Basidiomycota
Most of the Organisms that wecall mushrooms belong to this phylum. The phylum gets its name from a specialized structure that resemblesa club.
Red Amanita Muscaria
Aurioularia
Coral Fungi
Deuteromycota
The phylum Deuteromycota includes fungi that cannot be placed in any other phyla because their sexual reproduction has never been observed. The word imperfect Is a botanical term referringto a lack of sexual reproduction; hence, thename imperfect fungi.
