What is the Fund DEMA?

The origin

The name of the Fund DEMA is a tribute to the leadership of the social movements of Altamira/Transamazônica, Ademir Federicci,

known as “Dema”, murdered in 2000 as a consequence of his fight for the Rights of the Peoples of the Forest.

We are the Forest

In these 10 years of work of the Fund DEMA,

the partnership and financial support of

institutions as the Amazon Fund and the Ford

Foundation have been fundamental to the

implementation of the social environmental

projects and the creation of specific funds to

“quilombolas”(villages of former slaves) and

indigenous communities.

Thus, the actions of the Fund DEMA operate a

deep transformation in the quality of life of the

peoples of the forest and in the preservation of

the Amazon biome.

Today, the actions of the Fund DEMA are present in 32 cities in

the state of Pará.

How does the Fund DEMA work?

Participation, Democracy, Transparency, Social Control.

These are fundamental and guiding premises of Fund DEMA management, shared

with the General Management Committee and two specific Committees

(quilombolas and indigenous), besides the Regional Advisory Council, composed of

entities, social movements and institutions that act in this region.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The General Management Committee has the assignments of managing the Fund,

approving the Budget Program and the financial chronogram as well as endorsing the

requests presented by the communities, movements or associations. It is also

responsible for monitoring the results of the actions of the Fund.

The juridical and administrative responsibility of the Fund DEMA belongs to the

Federal Organization of Social and Educational Assistance – FASE,

a non-governmental organization that acts in projects of social inclusion,

sustainability and universalization of social, economic, cultural,

environmental, civil and political rights.
